Title: Off season randomness.
Post by: sonofdaxjones on May 09, 2015, 01:55:19 PM
AtM has been gone for 4 years (I think).   I can't decide if I am overjoyed that weird ass CultAggie is gone, or whether I am sad that we no longer have the opportunity to beat them .

I do not, nor will I ever miss #tucknations love of the Fightin Cult Aggie Band.

A pickle.

The more weird, the more better,  imo.  Wish we had them.

They were super weird.  I am sad they are gone.  TCU is nowhere near as interesting.  WVU might be almost as good in their own way, but they are in their own solar system and I will probably never go to WV and my interactions with IRL WVU weirdos is limited.

I have the same mixed feelings, dax.

In stark contrast to CU, which I continually forget was ever even in the b12.

Yeah, never did GAF about CU.  Never will.  Same with NU, for the most part.

Do wish MU was still around, though.  Those were some fun bb and fb games.

I do miss MU, because I believe there was a large component of their fanbase who actually got more angry when they lost to K-State, than if they lost to KU.   In the 90's early 00's many MU fans from their PbyP guy Mike Kelly on down hated K-State and they hated LHC LHC LHC Bill Snyder.   Norm Stewart hated K-State with every fiber of his being.   I think he played to the MU crowd about KU, but I think at his core he hated K-State way more.   A friend of mine, very ITK told me that Larry Smith used to go into the MU football offices on Saturday night after losing to K-State and tear the place apart.

The Gary Pinkel "I left my iron on" mid-field post game 'handshake', sits near the summit of all-time great K-State sports moments . . . at least for me, anyway.

Yes.  I miss all of them.

1. NU
2. MU
3. aTM
4. CU

I really hated Gary Barnett CU, but other than that they were boring.  NU/MU were obviously enormous fun to play against.  aTm was fun too for the most part.

I hated CU if only cause it was the first team that I saw k-state lose to in person (2001), and the fact that the 2011 basketball team went 0-3 against them. Other than that the longer we aren't in the conference with them, the more that like puni I forget they even were in the conference. The other 3 MU, NU, and A&M I would be ok with them back, but frankly I don't care anymore. Maybe mizzou id want back the most cause it's a big void left in the hating going on in the KC area.

I wish we could bring back aTm, MU, and NU, and drop Tech and TCU. Keep WVU just to keep things weird.

I do miss the old b12 lineup. I really really like playing everyone like we do with ten though. My best case would be a ten team conference of original b12 schools

Love having WVU. KK, you gotta make a trip sometime. My trip to Pittsburgh/Morgantown was amazingly fun, best roadie I've ever been to of the dozens of kat roadies I've made. Of course that could be because of the whole "Does Playing WVU Hurt Our Image" thread, which had exploded and subsequently enraged just so, so many of them. I mean, we got accosted about it by WVU chicks on Friday night in a Pittsburgh bar. I think I even posted in the thread while she was yelling at us.

So yeah, I love having WVU. TCU is major snoozeville. Like, even when we beat them on a last second field goal, I wasn't really all that pumped because it was just TCU, ya know?

Miss hating NU. Like a lot. Would def. take them back. Would probably take aTm back. Would definitely take Missouri back, though for some reason I never got as pumped for MU games as others on here seem to. Hoops was pretty fun, but football games against MU I was always kinda meh on. I mean, I never saw them as a big game so it was kinda hard to get up for it.

Colorado is dead to me.

I was raised to hate NU, so I miss those opportunities to hate them.  I used to watch every game they played, just to root for the other team.  When I was young, my family lived off of 75 highway and my Dad would hang disparaging signs along the road about NU.  The sea of NU fans driving to Lawrence would shake their fists and stuff.  Those were great times.

I miss Colorado the most.  My first vivid memories of KSU football are from when the Big8 ladder went Neb, Col, then KSU.  In my head, beating Colorado was the next hump to get over.  That was the game I looked forward to the most.  It was the biggest game I thought we could win.  Back then, I always expected to beat everyone else in the conference (20-1 from 93-96 in Big8/12). Colorado was the boss to beat to get to the next level.  Because of those years the Colorado game was always big to me.  I miss playing them.

Also, I don't miss A&M.  I never got the love for their band.  I went to the 08 game thinking it would be fun/interesting.  It was just very, very weird.  Midnight yell is still the strangest thing I've ever seen.  After I got over the weird, I was very underwhelmed by everything else.  Their crowd sucked.  The stadium was junky and covered in bat crap.  The atmosphere outside the stadium was boring.  Everyone was either a toy soldier, elderly, or wearing a t-shirt with the longhorn logo with the horns sawed off.  It felt like a county rodeo with just a lot more people there.  I don't miss them at all.

I live in College Station now, and I go back and forth every day on whether I miss A&M in the Big 12 or not. I'm more familiar with B12 teams they'd be playing, but I'm glad I don't have to deal with their fans during ISU games against them. Seeing Alabama, Auburn and South Carolina this fall in football should be fun, but I doubt it'd be as fun as seeing A&M play Texas.

Side note: Man is their hatred of Texas weird, even today. They tried to not allow Home Depot in town because their color is orange.

I so used to hate CU due to Whine-heisel.  He was such a little B, crying all the time and talking academics and ethics, when you knew he cared about none of those things.  What made it worse was the media kissed his A and bought into all of it.

Barnett was more of the same, to a large degree.

However, once they left, I did not give a rat's F about CU.  Now it is hard to remember they even exist in regard to sports.  And, as far as I can tell, their own conference feels similarly about them.  At times, when they do end up on the channel, I sort of root for them because what has become of them makes me sort of sad.  It tugs at the ol' heart strings.

Nebraska; they were the team I hated the most in the late 90s and early 00s.

Here's what I love about K-State fans vs. Nebraska fans, and why I wish we could have made it a rivalry.

Nebraska has a whole state to itself. They can talk to anyone they find about why Nebraska is the greatest thing on the planet and talk themselves up as to why they are so great without anyone keeping them in check. We have a bunch of KU up nose bastards telling us why K-State sucks so much all the time. So when we would get into fights with Nebraska fans they didn't know how to argue because who had they argued with? We had all the practice in the world and knew how to debate/troll/not be idiots and we would crush them off the field all the time. I forgot about Colorado and A&M as soon as they left the conference. I still hate Missouri because they left for a worse situation even though everyone in the world told them they were leaving for a worse situation, and it started this whole chain reaction of everyone leaving (come to find out Missouri didn't even leave for the conference that they wanted to leave for).

Well said on CU as the next boss, they were riding a big wave of national attention at that time built on the MNC in 90, Salaam's Heisman in 94 and the fact they played a great noncon every year.  The current state of the CU program makes the elite roadie the only thing I really miss about them now.
