Title: Debt and the US Dollar
Post by: chuckjames on April 16, 2015, 03:44:26 PM
Just wondering with the Dollar being incredible strong when the collapse of the economy due to our debt happens, I've been promised it for like 6 years now.

John Dougie Fun Fact: Did you know that more than 9% of the 2014 tax revenue was used to service the interest on the national debt?

Hopefully soon because I'm just sitting on all this gold bullion I picked up at Costco.

You can just give it away during Christmas if the collapse doesn't happen.

I don't understand why we won't just run the debt up to $50trillion and buy every American a Tesla or something fun like that. Oh, I remember why. Friggin Republicans.  :shakesfist:

The fact remains the US dollar is the safe haven currency despite treacherous attempts by certain sects of people to make us default on the national debt for no rational reason.

YAWN, still the worlds safe haven. Also since probably 50% of that debt is held domestically*, that interest is taxable.  :kstategrad:

*Im too lazy too look up who actually owns our debt but 50% seems like a conservative estimate.

Fun fact: even during the "government shutdown" that wasn't really a shutdown, we were never in any danger of defaulting on our debt. We had way more than enough money to continue servicing it. The fact that you parrot such idiotic talking points pretty much speaks for itself.

I wish we could give Barry 4 more years, the unemployment rate is 5.5 percent, stock market is rocking, interest rates are fantastic, US army is the smallest since 1940.  He figured it out and now we are going to just let him leave.

1. Incredibly strong = lol
2. Safe haven = FRB shadow bank buying billions of dollars of new debt per week

What a dumbass

Hey look at us, we're doing better than the European social welfare states. Let's drive our economy towards that, I can't see any reason why our outcome would be the same.

What a mind - boggling stupid premise.

I will say, I'm flattered to have a faithful following of posters following me around the pit to nit pick and prod at posts, even if those posters are dumber than crap and don't even understand what they're nit picking or prodding at. It also effectively distracts from the idiocy of the underlying thread, which is good pit form, and I am entitled to credit for that.

My apologies I guess Ted Cruz et al wanted to raise the debt ceiling. My bad, then what was the shutdown over again?

You're not understanding this. Even if the debt ceiling had not been raised, we would not have defaulted on our debt. It's really interesting to me that you don't know this - that you didn't even bother to google it before sticking to your guns. It seems to indicate a profoundly stubborn ignorance.

Ok even if it's from Forbes (not exactly down the middle), I'll agree that Obama had the power not default for awhile, at some point bills were going to needed to be paid tho.  Still I think Cruz and others wanted to default on the debt. But I have no proof if this. So yea my point still remains dispite 6* years of threats of the debt crippling the economy it still hasn't happens and the dollar is trying stronger than ever, thanks Obama.

*Funny how it became an issue when a Democrat become president. But Medicare Plan D for all!!!

It absolutely was an issue during Bush's terms. Even Senator Obama was making an issue of it.

Good. So now you acknowledge that you were wrong and blindly parroting false and idiotic talking points. You're making progress. The next step is to consider "golly, if I was so fundamentally misinformed about such a simple thing, I wonder if maybe I'm wrong about other things, too?" Let that marinate for about 48 hours and come on back.

So then tell me what was the point of the government shutdown? Also I mean our credit was downgraded because of the threats and shenanigans so obviously somebody thought there was a chance at default.
