Title: Greenies & Water Whores Causin Californians to Whiz Dirt!
Post by: renocat on April 06, 2015, 10:54:52 PM
It is so dry in CA people are getting so dry they are whizzing dust.  The greenies and little critter protectors put endangered species and little birds ahead of drinking water, food, and poor people.  Water is being flushed down rivers to the ocean bays to keep some 2 inch fish alive - let the damn things die instead of people.   When it gets to point where you have to drink recycled whzwater its time to put humans first.  I read an article today that quoted an environmentalist that wanted to take water from farmers - evo-guy what are you going to eat - roasted dog turds from the park.  What are the vegetables pickers going to pick - maybe carcasses of people who die of thirst.  Finally average grunt Joe has to flush once a day, no water in the pool, rocks instead grass, but the rich elite Hollowworld do gooders just go on buying and using water - water whores! Peons attack!

rest easy, renocat.  everyone on my street is still watering the lawn (and sidewalk, and about half of the street).

California Fun Fact: Agriculture accounts for 2% of the California economy, but uses 80% of the usable water.

If someone is whizzing dust they should schedule an appointment with a urologist immediately.

Should the state be able to take a farmer's nuts?  Environmentalist think so even if a farmer owns a right to the water.

I think most of the water in California is surface water imported from other states.

You have to convert walnuts and almonds to dollars to have a valid comparison.

Yeah, heard a Science Friday podcast on this last week.  They said that none of this is really about anything other than ground water and how farms are just pumping like crazy and the drought is making this all a bid deal.  A day or so after hearing the pod cast, I saw something on Bill Mahr(I know, I know.  I hate the guy but found this topic when flipping through) where a local proff showed a ground water map from three yrs ago vs now and crap is looking bad.

The science friday podcast said that part of the problem is that investment groups are buying large plantation crops, pumping/watering like rough ridin' mad to make it as profitable as possible, and planning for to sell in the next few yrs, and how that is making it bad for family farmers who actually have to have a long term plan.  :dunno:

Seems like ground water rights needs to be addressed if the system is going to remain stable.  Wasn't there a bid best practices type change in Ag right after the great depression to help prevent dust bowl type crap from happening again?  Seems like that level of best practices should be being discussed right now.  I am not saying they need to impose upon everyone right now, but it would be a good idea to have had the discussion and the beginning of a plan for if it is ever needed.

I wouldn't view dewatering of aquifers during a severe drought as a major problem. It takes years to establish an orchard and farmers should protect their investments by whatever means they have available. If the dewatering continues after the drought, that is a problem, but it will take care of itself. Farmers will just start growing something else and 80% of the world's almond production will stop.

They are already building desalination plants along the coast, where they already have the rights. There will be fights with the coastal commission and envirolibs to get more built. The money for the bullet train to nowhere should be used to build one every 20 miles along the coast.

It would be a lot more cost effective to just import more water from Canada.

desalination is nowhere close to cost effective for anything but drinking water (where there are no reasonable alternatives).  california has plenty of drinking water.

The podcast I mentioned discussed desalination too, as did another podcast I listened to last week(Stuff you should know).  They were talking about how much brine is left over from the process and how it is pretty harmful to dump back in the ocean without either spreading it out a bunch or going quite a ways off shore.  Also, it requires a lot of either pressure or heat.  Like a ton.  Supposedly there is a latest tech type plant being built named the Posideon right now in CA and CA will base a lot of their forward plans on how efficient and productive it is.  Kinda an all-in type bet, supposedly.

you mean that a lot of coastal cities in socal will base their plans on how efficient it is compared to importing water from the north.  for california as a state, desalination is not a serious option to water needs.

Correct, as in if they will continue to pursue it as means to gain potable water rather than some other solution.

They should inject the brine into the San Andreas fault and pray to God it triggers an earthquake that sends LA crumbling into the ocean.

Seriously though, inject the water, don't rough ridin' spread it across the ocean. Good grief.

The problem is that Nocal poiticians have the ability to decrease water to Socal, and in turn increase prices, so desalination is/will be very viable in the future. Also, many municipalities have/are considering recycled water for landscaping and desal water for drinking.

The drought is caused by nature, but the water shortage is caused by politicians.

The water shortage issue is a farce in the good ole USA.  We have more fresh water than we know what to do with.  We got equipment and manpower to build water districts and channels to spread and distribute fresh water anywhere in the country.

This water shortage talk is as stupid as the fuel shortage problems manufactured by big corp.

750 million gallons is nothing to scuff at. Of course that's what only 2 golf courses do annually (allegedly), but doesn't that just add to the fact...not necessarily a logically sound rebuttal. Especially when lotic systems provide more services than simple entertainment and irresponsible thirst convenience.

Stupid Golden State libnuts are always preaching how government should be the solution to everything.  The gov is trying to get people to save water - libs cussing city hall.  Next stealing farmers water rights.

A new TV show - Life of the Rich and Famous Water Pigs.  It sickening to see the pictures of rich starlets, the Kardasian things, rich tycoons, and actories homes fronts manure green and the lots next door desert dry and burned.   Water systems are fining them $500 for violations - big whoop deterrent.  Meanwhile the peon riffraff are stealing water.   I would turn off the rich's sewer service until they reduced usage and hire kids to parade around their homes in hog suits.

That sounds amazing.  Hopefully it's scaleable.  Probably going to get a ton of investment.

We need to seriously considering true recycling of water from wastewater.  In many instances (especially in California), the stuff we're putting into the river/ocean is cleaner than the stuff we drink.

Seems like something that would easily be able to be done at large scale, but who knows. Pretty amazing tho

There are some cities already doing that. Not very many, though.

Supposedly there is a shower that was designed for the ISS that is being tweaked for residential use that recycles something like 90% of the water it uses during the shower.  Faucet, drain, filter, back to faucet.  All during the same shower.  They had a price point on it last year, when I hear of it, of something  like $500.

A big sewage pipeline from Canada. The Crapstone pipeline.  Water and fertilizer for organic crops.  Libs idea probably is better though.
