Title: Is the tourney more fun/better to watch without your team in it?
Post by: Cartierfor3 on March 16, 2015, 12:27:13 PM
Hey guys!

I'm really looking forward to watching the tourney this year, and the good thing about it is not worrying about my team! See, whenever the KSU Cats would play and eventually lose, I'd get really jaded towards the rest of the tourney, but now its better because you don't even have to get too happy or sad about any one game and can just enjoy basketball.

Blog your thoughts in the comments section below.

Canary and I were discussing this. I agree with the op. However, I'd rather my cats were in the field. This year I wouldn't be expecting much so I don't think it would ruin the whole tourney for me.

I mean, ideally yeah I'd love to watch the KSU Cats win all the games but back when we were in it, whenever we'd lose I'd be sad and not watch basketball for a round or two. NOW I CAN WATCH IT ALL!

Oh I agree. I'm just saying a first round exit wouldn't have shocked me this year I'd still be able to enjoy the rest of the tourney.

Absolutely more fun to watch when the Cats are in it.  But I will really enjoy watching my bracket and all the games for the love of basketball.  I plan four days of nothing but basketball at my house beginning late Thursday morning.

i enjoy filing out my bracket and assuming the cats are going to go on a wild run and make it to the final four every year.
there is nothing better than to have this dream on the night before the "madness" begins.
so, to use a baseball analogy, this thread just watched strike three go buzzing by and is outta here.

I love to go nuts with flipping around between games. And it's a real PIA to try to both do that and watch one of our games. It's actually a pretty big nuisance and hassle for us to be in the tournament at all.

won't even watch now, haven't watched a single college basketball game all year that didn't feature the cats, sounds super boring.

Different and and still fun, but not as good. I'm pretty good a separating enjoying the sport as a whole from the success or failure of my team, though, and never really had a problem still enjoying the tournament after the Cats lose.

As for the Royals? I love 'em, but Spring Training doesn't really move the needle for me at all. It would probably be pretty fun to actually go to it though.

Yeah the last thing I want is for a Cats game to distract me from focusing on all of the other Tourney games.  Finishing 8th with a losing record was actually a blessing in disguise.

The highs are higher and the lows are lower.  It's not as interesting without any skin in the game.

baseball fans should stick with the women's sports board, where they belong.

It has been fun.  I find myself rooting for teams I thought I would never root for - there have been some great games today.  Listened while travelling.  There are great announcers doing the games, they talk faster than Wyatt.

I voted #2. I live in a cultural mecca where a bunch of pretty good basketball programs exist, plus a bunch of people move into this area who like a bunch of other pretty good basketball programs. It sucks to have to see them wearing their teams' logos and tell them, "great game today! Are you going to go to the Sweet 16 next weekend?"

Then they are like, "It was awesome!!! Yes/no I am/ am not going. Did your Wildcats make it? Who beat them in the opening round?"

Then I am like, "No man, the Cats turned down a bid for the CBI. We sucked hard this year."

Then they usually follow it up with, "Isn't oscar Weber your coach? That's too bad."

(This is very similar to 4 or 5 conversations I have had in the past 5 days.)

It's pretty great. Lots of opportunity professionally. I'm 20 minutes from some of the best college basketball, soccer, lacrosse in the country.
Beaches are close. DC is 4 hours. Skiing is 3-6 hours, depending on what you want. Appalachian Trail hikes. Very tolerable weather. Most areas are pretty affordable. Continuous growth.

Lots of start ups in the area. One of my buddies just started with a one last fall. They were about 3 years into it when he joined them. Another company bought them out on March 1. He is retained through May, then he is out of a job. Think he cares? NO! He just told me that he paid his house off and they are planning a summer of vacations, including 2 weeks in Italy, before he starts looking for something else to do. Those stories happen more here than any other place I have lived. Could be because I am older now and more likely to meet some of these people, but I think it has to do with the area I live in.
