Title: Can Wade teach the team the Kansas work ethic?
Post by: Trim on March 16, 2015, 12:08:04 PM
We've seen this on the FB team.  Others will be quicker, etc. and going from the big fish in a small pond to the big time will be tough.  Jordy and Kline type work ethic will be golden on this team.

What if he's good enough to keep oscar from getting fired, but not good enough to help us win tourney games?

I bet Claws was in one or both of 4H and FFA and therefore has a wonderful work ethic and is eager to show others how to have a good work ethic.

Maybe we should find a good babysitter that can walk on.  According to a bunch of GPC tweets this weekend, oscar failed because he was baby sitting and not coaching.  So, if you see any good Babysitting fliers in your neighborhood, maybe shoot them oscar's way.  Not sure what the requirements are.  I mean, it would probably be a plus if they know CPR, have a reliable car, and maybe if their parents have a pool or something they wouldn't mind taking the little guys back to swim in some days of the year.

No bullshit cut rate ones either, guys.  This is obviously a big task.

Is that the official Mason-Dixon line of Kansas? Makes sense, just have never heard that before.

The babysitting quote was from Nino.

Yeah.

It is frustrating to me to hear that.  I mean, talented and celebrated 19 yr olds exist at all major sports schools and they usually don't melt down because they are too much for their coach to handle.  It's ridiculous.

My fave part of the GPC wknd was where D. Scott said only Nino and Gip cared about losing and the rest of the guys were just planning on getting hammered at Johnny Kaws after the games.

Honestly, it doesn't make Nino and Gip sound the greatest either. Those guys seem just as disconnected from the young guys as Weber. This season was just a mess.

Gip and Nino seem to just be doing more blame shifting. Marcus was the main guy taking responsibility in his last interview.

“I just didn’t go hard every day like I should have,” Foster said. “I tried to go hard late in the season, but it was too late.”

“When you think that way, you have got to be hungry with it,” Foster said. “You can say, ‘I am going to average 15 points,’ but then you have to make sure it happens. I didn’t stay hungry enough to make things happen like I should have.”

Wade eerily reminds me of the young Larry Bird.  Wade biggest asset is his brain and savvy.  His coach now is likely a more knowledgeable coach than Weber.

That's possible, but I would've thought that he or K-State would have just said that. Every time I've ever seen a player have an emergency or family death, that has been stated. I've never seen someone just miss because of "personal reasons".

This is what he said:
"Yes, just personal reasons. Just a lot of things going on. It sucks to miss a game, and at Texas, because it was my last game there, but it's business, and I really don't want to talk about that part, but it's personal, and I did what I needed to do. It's over. I'm moving on."

I'm probably being too tough here because I have no idea what went on. :dunno:

it was an injury, not a funeral.  don't know the specifics of the injury.  maybe he had a treatment or something that day and couldn't make the trip, but it was def injury related.

Why doesn't anyone just say that. I mean, his quote makes no sense. He's done playing, he's venting about everything else, why not just say "yeah, it sucked to miss Texas, but I had treatment and couldn't travel."

My frustration with it is based on HIS answer to why he missed. I wouldn't have made any speculation had I not read that honestly.

Unless it was an non-playable injury (in which case I agree with _FAN, why not just say "I was hurt") and he missed a game for a treatment the entire athletic training staff and team doctor should be fired/not retained. No way should a player miss a game for treatment if the injury is playable.

You know I bet a good weekend with them all working on El Rancho Esteban David would bring them together.

O imagine the sparkle in one's eye as Jevon tries to lasso a doggie, trips and accidentally ropes a cactus that first night.  Stories around the campfire as a thunderstorm brews way off to the west, lighting up the inky night sky! The next day when Nigel has to put down a lame horse with a nothing but a fence post wrapped in barbed-wire and they all cry in each others arms as the blood runs into the dusty ground. What's that?  Its Ma Dave ringing the alarm for supper!  Good simple, humble food.  Food from the earth and fresh horse meat to one obtained with one's own strength and will.  What tastes better than accomplishment after a hards days work in the sun?  The small troubles of a ball bouncing of your arm into the face of the opposing coach look awful small when placed against the backdrop of the titanic Western Kansas sky.  By the time the last night rolls around, words will be fewer, but more meaningful.  A well placed glance will tell more tales than a library of books. They will have learned to not only wrangle cattle, but how to wrangle men.
