So there was a stretch roughly 6 months-a year ago where i would have terrifying dreams absolutely every night. Basically everything you could think of that's horrible. Being shot at, being mugged, parents dying, etc. The absolute worst was when I dreamt I got on a train and started killing people. I remember thinking in that one "my God, what have I done?!" Just the other night I was on a train (with 8mp actually) and rural Illinois was under attack. Bombs falling everywhere.
The only silver lining i guess is that waking up brings a sense of relief. But I've had some serious freddy krueger crap goin on and it sucks. Terribly stressful way to start my day.
Do YOU have bad dreams? Am I crazy? Is there anything that can be done to stop them when they keep happening?
-
Sounds like nightmares, to me. I have had some pretty terrifying episodes of sleep paralysis, though.
-
You should learn and implement techniques to become more likely to have lucid dreams. That way you can control the scenario.
-
I love kid cudi and I'm pretty sure I always will
-
I think for most people it comes and goes in phases of your life. Extra stress, perhaps?
-
dlew, any new medications during that stretch? were you eating right before bed regularly? the eating thing can ramp up your metabolism and make your body feel like it should be active and cause them. sleep deprivation can also cause them if you hadn't been sleeping a lot. really bad night terrors run in my family. I had them as a child but don't recall them. would be screaming and unable to be woken up. mom still has them and will yell at night all the time during her sleep. I don't have them anymore luckily.
-
FTR, I know they're not night terrors. Strictly nightmares. Still, it was weird to be getting them literally every time I went to sleep. They've slowed down a lot -- the only recent one was the train bombs one.
And I don't think I was eating anything odd during that stretch. It was over the summer time when I was living in this shitty apartment in Chicago. Kind of a stressful period I guess. My living situation made me pretty miserable (it was just a really really bad apartment; right next to train tracks; no car in the city; just sucked). No new medication.
I was having a terrible time getting to sleep during those months though. Tossed and turned without sleep once every two weeks or so. Man sleep is just the weirdest thing.
-
yep, I think we've located the problem. glad you're doing better.
-
My sis in law has them, but instead if screaming and stuff she jumps off the bed like she is hiding, wakes my bro up, then says "the're inside. They came in through the window and have a gun." My bro knows what's going on and it still freaks him out.
-

well, that's rough ridin' terrifying
-
If it ever comes back, try and relax before you sleep. End your day with funny youtube videos. Could have been a negative feedback loop where on top of feeling shitty about the apartment, having anxiety about the nightmares caused it to happen every night.
-
Night terrors sounds like some of the times I have sleep paralysis, except when I try to scream, I can't.
Mostly when I have it though I am floating through the universe in what I imagine a dmt-like trip. For some reason there is a LOT of pressure on my balls, and is very uncomfortable. Otherwise its mind-blowing and I don't mind it.
-
I don't really get nightmares often but one time not too long ago i had one that was the most terrifying thing of my life. I was hanging our with Mrs mocat and we were like laughing and rolling around or something and all of a sudden myface changed and I said in a demon voice I WILL STRANGLE YOU IN YOUR SLEEP. I woke up shaking and scared like they're was someone else in the room, like a spirit or something. Its really hard to describe how frightening it is when the scary thing in your dream is you, yourself.
-
all mine are still, like, I haven't gone to class all semester and there's a final today. or I'm late for football practice. It is such a great feeling to wake up and realize I'll never have to take a test I've not studied for or go to football practice again.
-

yikes. and i thought i was bad with my snoring.

Yes I 100% agree. By far the worst nightmare I had was the one when I gunned down the subway car. Extremely traumatic.
-
I had a series of maybe 4 episodes of sleep paralysis in about a 4 month span. I would wake up feeling tingly and unable to move. Then this female spirit would whisper things in my ear. She always started out calm, but then she would get angrier and angrier until she was basically screaming. Her screaming sounded like standing in a wind tunnel. She said she loved me and was always trying to protect me from the other spirits, but it was becoming too much and she wasn't sure if she could hold them back. Also, she really hated my girlfriend. I think I had a weird succubus thing going on. It stopped after I moved. The last time it happened was before I moved. She was pissed that I was moving. She said, "...and if you go to the house on the big hill, you will never go back agaaaAAAIIIIiIiIIINN (whooshing screaming sound)."
-
I've also had those sleep paralysis dreams where I hear someone or someones enter the house. I can hear them walking around and whispering, getting closer to my bedroom door.
-
interesting dream thing, you know like you are having a dream and you dream an alarm or other sound that is your alarm clock and then your alarm clock goes off? or how you know you alarm clock is going to go off in your dream and then it does? this may not happen to everyone but it happens to a lot of people. anyway, that's not actually you knowing your alarm is going to go off it's your mind retroactively adding the alarm to your dream after you hear your alarm. like, in your mind you already dreamt about the alarm sound but in reality you didn't. I don't think I explained that very well but hopefully you get what I'm saying.
-
dreamt the other night I went to work with just a shirt and shoes on. like I'm in a brooks bros non-iron, some wing tips, no pants or underwear. pretty humiliating. worse than forgetting a belt.
-

yes! i know exactly the feeling. in your dream you're just like "ugh, this is a new low, dlew. how could you forget to get dressed this morning?!"
-
I always have weird/bad dreams if I have any Tylenol PM or NyQuil or anything like that.
-
oh don't get me started on melatonin dreams.
-
Every dream I have (remember) either myself or most of the people I know are killed in very final destination style ridiculous events.
-
Steve Dave and I may have the exact same dream scapes. I however, mostly don't remember my dreams. However, I often times will wake up just before my alarm when I have something important or something I am excited to do that day.
-
I used to take the dietary supplement ZMA for a while in high school, because I read somewhere that it improved your ability to recover after workouts. The one thing that I do know that it does, is give you freaky dreams. I don't remember any specifics, but I can remember awaking terrible frightened. Those dreams were why I stopped taking it. I have no idea if it helps workout recovery.
-
Common ben ji dreams-
Late for football practice/forgot about final omg what if I dont graduate.
Lucid work dreams that are very realistic, things I deal with every day. The issue is that I never have access to a computer in these dreams so I'm always saying let me get back to you after I look it up but then I cant look it up because I dont have a computer. Eventually everything turns into "Lets go with option A if variable B is under X amount. If it is over X amount variable B will have to be moved to area 1 but I dont know how much area 1 has in it but I can't look up what X amount is or how much is in area 1 so lets go with option B which is....etc etc". just keeps getting more complex until I wake up.
Random adventure dreams that are usually loosely based off a recent book/movie I enjoyed.
-
I've dealt with night terrors/sleep paralysis for quite a while. Not a good time. Luckily, I haven't had any for several years. I do think stress plays a significant role.
-
I have the "I forgot to go to class all semester oh no I'm in troubs" one like once a month at least.
-
Not a night terror, but I sleep walk/talk frequently. When I was in 7th grade my parents sold our house and we lived in an apartment for 3 months before moving into the new one. I went to a lock and stayed up all night at church like a week after we moved in, then had a fall ball baseball game at 8:30 AM. Needless to say, I was zonked. About 3 PM that afternoon I woke up, in a room I had never seen (basement laundry room) and I was peeing all over the floor. I realized what was up and got the hell back to our apartment and told no one for like 4 years.

COULD CAUSE DIABETES... :ohno:
"About half of type 2 diabetics have sleep-disordered breathing," says Osama Hamdy, MD, director of inpatient diabetes management at Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston. So if you're diagnosed with the condition—characterized by loud snoring and daytime sleepiness—it's a good bet to get your blood sugar levels checked, too. One recent Canadian study showed that 23% of patients diagnosed with mild or moderate obstructive sleep apnea, a common sleep disorder, went on to develop diabetes within 5½ years. The connection isn't completely understood, but there's one important link between the two: Patients with sleep-disordered breathing tend to release stress hormones during sleep, which can raise blood sugar levels.

Looks like you missed the bullet. Some of us aren't so lucky. :frown:

I've had a couple out of body experiences while sleeping. I remember one time in college when I had just fell asleep and was floating through the apartment and in quick instant I remembered I was in the bed asleep and woke up. It was very vivid .
There was another time in college when I dreamt the alarm went off and I started my day normallly, but while I was in the shower in my dream I realized I was still asleep.
Very weird experiences but I attribute it to the semester stress.
-
sleep paralysis is like easily the most terrifying experience of all time. it's happened to me maybe 5 times and even knowing it will go away it's still psychological torture

Yeah, it is terrible. You try to yell out, but you only mumble quietly.
On the flip side, we should talk about awesome dreams. At least once a month I have dreams (that I remember. I can only assume I probably have these dreams all the time but don't remember) where I realize I can fly. I then rub it in everyone's fat, amazed faces.
-
Sleep paralysis can be fun and awesome if you know what it is when it's going on.
-
crap guys, I just woke up from a nightmare! It seems I was stranded on an island with over a thousand Victoria Secret type chicks. OK, this seems weird that is isn't a fantastic dream, but you got to realize that I too was one of the chicks. :D

Only in dreams
-
I dreamed I got my accounts confused on my phone and I accidentally posted a terrorist statement from Twitter on the embassy's facebook page.
I also regularly have dreams of feverishly working against a deadline at an unsolvable problem, where the input is constantly changing before I can finish writing.
-
I don't dream that much but if I take melatonin it's like a Tim Burton movie up in my head
-
dreamt the other night I went to work with just a shirt and shoes on. like I'm in a brooks bros non-iron, some wing tips, no pants or underwear. pretty humiliating. worse than forgetting a belt.
How dare you.
-
I have terrible dreams and thankfully don't always remember them. I guess I yell every night in my sleep.
-
My worst dream was being in a plane crash where everybody knew the plane was going to crash for awhile. I felt like I had to come to terms with my own impending death in the dream. I've had the falling/waking up before you hit dreams and this was like a very extended version of that.
-
We already have a dream thread, and I had a pretty radical dream recently.

I'm on #teamnodreams

I had some weird sleep paralysis/nightmare thing last night. Had a hard time getting to sleep and took some NyQuil. Not an excessive dose. Still had a hard time falling asleep and was really paranoid and super aware of every noise in the house. I was up for maybe another hour before finally having these horrible vivid dreams that seemed like a waking dream except I couldn't get up from it. Like horrible crap was happening and I could imagine myself waking up and trying to yell and thinking I woke up and trying to tell my gf that I was having really weird NyQuil nightmares but I had such mush mouth I couldn't really make any noise come out. Then I eventually was able to wake up and see that I had obviously not woken up at all a minute before. This happened two more times with similarly horrifying dreams, but somewhat different.
Definitely 100% NyQuil related, I never have this happen. It reminded me almost exactly of a bad drug trip I had when a friend gave me something that was supposed to be MDMA, but was way more hallucinatory and was almost definitely some other chemical. It was almost like what a flashback must be like.
Very weird, not fun, very tired today. No more NyQuil for me.

Last night, I had this crazy ass dream that I was living in a house that I just bought and this guy kept trying to break in. Next thing you know, I see a shadow of him running up towards my house and I screamed in my sleep "AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH..... NOOOOOOOOOOOO!" Ms. wacky then woke me up and said I screamed like a girl. Crazy stuff, guys!
-
Zyrtec gives me nightmares. One of the other ones (Allegra?) gives me very lucid but chill dreams.
-
Pristiq gives me super vivid dreams. I don't really like it
-
I have some new medicine that my doc wants me to take before I go to bed for my BP. Maybe I should actually look into this thing. :Wha:
-
I IRL have bad dreams about not being able to correctly book travel. Like in my dreams I've got some sweet opportunity to book 1st class transatlantics or something and just keep messing it up or something keeps stopping me from doing it and it starts looking more and more like I'm going to have to sit in the back of the bus. and I can't properly get through security. it's terrifying.

I have a weekly dream about forgetting a class on my schedule in college and that I really don't have a degree. It terrifies me every time! Like, it's a week before graduation and boom! I forgot this class was on my schedule and I haven't attended all semester. :frown:
-
I have Predator dreams all the time. I'm usually whippin ass in them tho so they are not super terrifying.

I have this dream constantly and know tons of others that do also. SD mentioned it earlier. I have it with that, and I have one where I forgot a recital or something I'm supposed to perform in.

Most people are dressed normally, but some are in pajamas or nude.
In addition to the final exam dream, I dream that I am walking around nude sometimes and then suddenly realize it.

I keep having a dream that i'm a 5th year senior in HS and I have another crack at baseball. It's kind of a terror, because every time I'm about to take the hill in the state championship game, I wake up. Like, come on! Was I going to pitch a gem or get rocked?
Also, two nights ago, was rough ridin' wacky! Like, demons and ghosts everywhere! I screamed in my sleep again and Ms. wacky had to wake me up. I was drenched in sweat from fighting off these beasts. Do you think old downtown KC is haunted?! :Wha:
-
My dream about forgetting I'm enrolled in a class usually works out in the end. I either ace the final or just drop the class and go party my ass off instead.

Mine is always for my Masters tho. Which makes me think, if I forgot the class, I have to stay in Manhattan (where I didn't get my masters) for another semester (not that that's awful or anything). Like, in my dream, I've been there for 10 years and I haven't been able to start a profession yet. It's super weird.

Jet lag is so real
-
when i was little i had a reoccurring night terrory set of dreams where i would get eaten by velociraptors and i would wake up in a pool of sweat

We had gorillas in our hay barn.
Gonna win 'em all!

We've been binging American Horror Story and i've been having some crazy dreams of late. Last night a demon was coming after me and I tried to punch it in my sleep and ended up punching our wall. Ms. wacky had to wake me up and say "What in the hell are you doing?"
-
I was engaged in medieval combat last night and was disturbingly good at it. It was pretty gruesome.
-
Had that night paralysis thing the other night. Did you guys see the story of the butthole tickler? I had a dream that there he was in my bedroom tickling my butt with a feather. I was like half awake or something? I had a plan that I'd make myself scream and that would wake me up and then I could turn and beat his ass and yell at the wife to "grab the Judge court is in session!" Well I tried to yell, and that only half worked or something, but I was eventually able to wake myself up.
-
Strangely I had a dream that these little creatures were scratching me. They had 3 fingers and they were like really rough, like they were rock or something. There were like 5 of them clawing all over my body, I forced myself to wake up and I could still feel all the spots they were scratching. Very very weird

I have no idea who this butthole tickler is that you are talking about. You and Ms. Wacky should start a discussion about your fetishes.
