What is your preffered internet music outlet? Pandora? Spotify? Itunes? Youtube? Im looking around and comparing different services and just looking to get some opinions.

buying it from the artist

Spotify.
Thanks for asking.

Yes, because it's 1993 (clams' best year ever)

if you can get additional utility out of Amazon Prime (free 2 day shipping, video, kindle lending library) it's not too bad.

Yup, I've basically given up searching new tunes and just pick and choose from michcat recomendos. I sample most of the stuff posted on gE but Rusty really does have good music sensibilities.

I like spotify but it's not the best for music discovery. I feel like the problem is you get no ratings or feedback when looking through playlists, so you just see lines and lines of artists and songs you don't know.

You can do spotify radio, which is essentially the same thing as pandora. I like Plug because if you pick a good room, it can expose you to a type of music you'd like, without it being TOO pigeonholed, a problem that exists with pandora/spotify radio.
Pandora only still exists because it was the first in the game, and it's the only thing old people are familiar with.

I have put too much time and emotion into my Pandora stations to give up now. I'm in for the long haul.

Same me and spotty. Feel like if I put effort into YouTube playlists, streamus (great extension) or soundcloud, I'd find a lot more music. A lot of remixes aren't on spotify.

They also lack most rap mixtapes.
-
99% of remixes make me barf out. a possible exception is tasteful mashups, but i would personally say that mashups and remixes are different.
-
hopefully KSU never plays a remix in a bathroom, they have already suffered enough
-
I've found lots of remixes on Soundcloud that I like way better than originals. I'm not talking about the rando amateur ones, but remixes done by professionals.
-
i eat up any remix that RAC does. to quote jtksu, "Dude is talented as hell"
-
I still Pandora at the gym. That's about the only time I listen to music. Well that, and the shower, but I'm mostly listening to sports talk then.

Pandora is also integrated into cars, tvs and other home theater components much more than spotify. The two components I own with Spotify apps (roku and onkyo avr) require a premium membership to use it.

this is kind of where I'm at.

Yea. A lot of the crazy electronic music (all the weird fusions of future, trap, chill, etc) out there today you can't find on spotify. Not necessarily remixes, but I guess some artists aren't on a major label or something or just really hipster.
Do you do all your listening on soundcloud? I feel like I could accomplish the same thing on sc that I can on spotify. But I'm pot-committed.

I'm not sure you would want to use it exclusively. But, yeah, it's by far the best for a lot of the styles of music that it has. Every significant indie label DJamer has an account and most are pretty active. I use several sources and it may be my favorite.

So what’s the best option these days? Middle schooler says he needs a music app. Everything is $10/mo minimum now. I wouldn’t mind having a better service myself, so maybe pony up for the family plan... but $15/mo for music? I’m too old and cheap for that.
-
I pay $17/mo for family Spotify account (5 users) Had an extra user so I hooked up my dad with an account for his Alexa. Probably would drop cable before canceling our Spotify.

Spotify is great and worth the money imo. That said, after my 3 months / $1 deal expired I cancelled. If you have a PC and a Bluetooth speaker, you can listen to whatever you want. Just have tolerate ads.
-
We do the family Spotify plan. Life's too short for ads and random songs.

we use amazon

I just do the free version of Spotify. Not a music service but several years ago I also got songs from a super sketchy site called mp3juices. Surprisingly my phone did not melt into a puddle of internet AIDS from using it.
-
I have Google music which got changed to YouTube music and it's fine. Gives you yt premium as well which gets rid of ads on videos.
-
I do the youtube music one. Decided on that one as it seems to work best with google home and it gives youtube premium so no ads.

didn't youtube music used to come with google fiber? maybe i'm making that up
anyway, tell your family and kids to use the ORIGINAL music service, the radio
-
I listen to radio streams more than anything else while I work. Tons of great ones out there.
-
Interesting turn. I listen to local NPR or AM talk radio when driving around town.

I mostly listen to SiriusXM in the car or local sports radio. Spotify if I'm wanting to listen to something specifically.
-
i have apple music and use it in the car and also sirius and use it in the car too but i'm rarely in the car, will prob cancel.
-
I saw a funny tweet a long time ago that was, like, “Apple Music, the Android of music services” and it made me lmao.
I like Spotify a lot for both podcasts and music,

I'm currently trying Tidal. I was trying Qubuz.
I may go back to Amazon HD.
When I get my new streamer set up at home, I'll probably play around with those 3 some more.
-
I have Tidal for free through Sprint and after registering and getting it logged in on my phone and sonos I never thought about it again
-
Same with Amazon Music
-
And OT but same with Apple TV
-
This weekend I learned that the BBC Sounds app is now available worldwide, and it works with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

just switched to Spotify from Apple Music at my teenager's request and the one complaint I have regarding Spotify is the much stricter limit to one device per login, I don't think Apple Music cares which is nice if you use an Apple TV or an old iPad or iPod with a bluetooth speaker for background music.

Spotify has that family plan that will let you do multiple devices but it's a little more expensive.

I like how it follows me. If I'm listening to a podcast or playlist on the FireTV, it starts playing in the car.
-
Used to have apple and now have Spotify. Had XM as well, but dropped since I'm never in the care. I don't think I'm a "playlist" guy. I just want music to play that I like. I don't mind liking and disliking to achieve this, but I don't want to get in the car or whatever and sort and find a super specific playlist of 15 songs. That is my issue with Spotify and AM. I've tried Spotify stations and it seems ok.
-
is like everything everything on spotify?
