I know we haven't had nearly enough of these already, so here we go:

The filled circles are adjusted offensive efficiency and the empty ones are adjusted defensive efficiency. The longer the "bar" the better, but I think it is interesting to see how teams/coaches attempt to stretch that bar.
I can make this for about any team or any coach (since 2002), so if you want a specific one let me know.
-
that bar on 2010.
-
Very interesting to see how similar 2008 and 2013 were, and how similar 07 and 09 (NIT years) were to last year (NCAA).
-
Can you do Bill Self's years at KU?

True. Efficiency differential (or points per possession differential if you divide by 100) is a pretty good indicator of success.
Also interesting to correlate to kenpom rankings.
08 and 13 were #23 and #21 (12 was #22). 07 and 09 were #55 and #53. Last year was #43.
And this year is very Woolish.
-
2010 HNNNnnnnnggggg
-

Will pretty much look like '10 every year.
-
Wow. Poor Wooly. Every year his D got better, his O got worse. Every year is O got better, his D got worse. His bar remained pretty much the same during that period.

Holy crap, that 2008.
-
Calipari
-
:sdeek:
-
Note: I had to lower the bounds to 80 because of UKs defensive prowess! So this is not exactly the same scale as the above ones.

I love these. I wish I wasn't dumb and could do them myself.
-
holy crap that defense
-
oscar's entire career with different colors for different schools.
-
DO the same graph as K-State but then just put Kentucky in as a looong cat and have no bottom until the next post.
-
I'm glad you started with ours so it didn't look just terrible in comparison

lol

These rule Chingon. Great job. Any chance you could plot the Big XII this year?
-
During the broadcast last night they mentioned that oscar was telling them that the defense was much better this year. It purses me off that he can say that and that people paid to talk about basketball will parrot it back out.
-
Worst offense and defense since Wooly's last season. Woof.
-
I kind of like the phrase "purses me off". Was thinking about editing, but I'm going to leave it.

Yeah, far too many people paid to talk about basketball pay no attention to pace and tempo free stats. Its very annoying.
That's why I made it a point to say last night's game only had 50 posssessions where we gave up 64 points. Most people see 64 points allowed and don't think that is terrible defense, but it was our worst defensive performance of the year and 4th worst defensive performance of the oscar era at K-State.
-
yikes, looks like our offense is going to be even worse next year. but we already knew that...
-
holy crap that defense
Everyone else is playing for 2nd this year. If UK doesn't win it all Calipari should resign out of shame.
-
oscar's offense runs on other coaches' players. #fuel #feedthemachine #vroomvroom

It takes just one crap night. They've shown a few already.
-
It looks so mediocre without 04, 05 and 06.
-
our defense was fine last night, oscar had us ready to play. there's nothing you can do when the other team is engorged with shot making juice that night.
it's really time to circle the wagons and focus our minds on the longhorns. it's a must win if this team has any ncaa hopes imo.
-
For completeness/fairness:

you don't want the open circle above a filled one.... woof

Lon and Self made oscar. If he had been hired at Illinois on a rebuild (like if oscar followed oscar) instead of at the (arguable) height of the program he wouldn't have lasted more than four years and no high major would have ever touched him again. #alternateuniverse
-
Like they're all erections of varying sizes and that little guy in 2011 is the one droopy dong of the group. #cocks
2013 just got out of the swimming pool.

Yeah that's the year that is flaccid, not 2011. 2011 is a respectable bone.

I think the pace () with which broadcasters and reporters have brought more advanced statistics into their broadcasts and stories is about what you could expect. It's hard to justify alienating the a large part of your audience to please a small (not so small anymore, and growing) minority of us, who would watch and read anyway.
What annoys me is when they use deceptive stats without acknowledging tempo or possessions to push a point that is itself dishonest aka sunshine-pumping KSU's defense.
-
I don't mind broadcasters ignoring tempo-free stats, but I don't really care for our coaches ignoring them.

I know for a fact not all of our staff ignores them. I don't know how much it filters up to the top though.

oscar knows enough about basketball to know that tempo matters. He slows the tempo way down so he can tell the media his team is playing good defense. His comments are purely about self-preservation.

Most coaches probably aren't going to go out of their way in interviews to point out that actually their team's performance was even worse than it appeared on the surface.

Frank would, especially at halftime

His brutal honesty was very endearing.

I should have written most unconfident coaches won't do that.

Man......
I want Frank and Underwood back....
