I knew it was possible we could lose this game. Then when we lost Foster, it was even more distinct. However, the stupid optimist in me had this team rallying to win an ugly game on the road.
I got the ugly part right.
A team in position at 45-44 with the ball multiple times simply falls apart. A senior throws the ball out of bounds coming out of a timeout in a mind numbing turnover. Tech goes on a 13-0 run and its not even close.
This is not just about Marcus Foster not playing, its what is left around this program and its not enough to win against the worst team in this league. Its about this program being in position to finish under .500 for a season for the first time in a dozen years. Despite a brief respite in January, this is about a program lapsing backwards (again) and everything I wrote about in a reactionary post a month and a half ago still being true.
This is a mess and it sucks. I should't let myself get caught up so that pathetic losses like this sting so much.

Brad Underwood, in a lesser conference mind you, is 50-6 at SFA.

Yeah, I saw Gottlieb's tweet too.
-
That's shockingly bad defense.
-
Can someone tweet Currie about how Underwood is doing?
This team lacks passion, fight, uhh, skills. They act like they dont care.
I need one of those magnets, who had those? BID!
-
That's shockingly bad defense.
Yeah, Tech has had only 2 games with better offensive efficiency this year. Against South Carolina State and Prairie View A&M. Currently 324 and 326 respectively in kenpom.
-
home games are going to be ghost towns.

Yeah, I saw Gottlieb's tweet too.
Well it is appropriate to point out.
I was busy all afternoon, and didn't hear the Foster news until I turned on the game at halftime. As a LBBIQ fan, I was completely annoyed with how shitty the team is when the ball is in their possession. Every basket felt like a miracle. Tech did not impress me either. This is not a Baylor team with shooters and size, or an Iowa St team that has offensive skill, or a OU Lon team that runs efficient offensive sets with great shooters. Tech sucks and they ran us out of the gym.

Oh, Tech is terrible. Very bad basketball team.
-
I rough ridin' hate that gothchock guy, he always goes off against us.
-
It was fun to get a few surprise W's post Marcus benching, but this really isn't that surprising. We struggled to beat the same dogshit Tech team at home at full strength. oscar never fixed the issues, because the issues are that we aren't talented or well coached.
-
Might I add...
Westicles becomes more thoroughly disappointing every game.
-
I can't get over how bad the defense was. 64 points in 50 possessions. Your average K-State fan won't realize how bad this is because 64 points doesn't "seem" like that much.
1.27 points per possession allowed. Tech was averaging .84 points per possession in Big 12 play coming into this game and had the 1 game vs ISU in Big 12 play at better than .93 points per possession. That's a really bad offense scoring at will against us.
-
Foster's fault, can be ignored.
-

with foster out, it had to be obvious that kstate would struggle to defend.

Clearly I underestimated his impact on our defensive efficiency.

we took him for granted.

I got roasted when I said that Tre Harris wasn't capable enough as an athlete to even attempt to defend at this level. Clearly this wasn't all his fault, but he's a really bad defender and it certainly was a big factor in Tech's offensive efficiency tonight.

I have shared that concern.

He's super slow and unathletic. It's a shame because all he needs to be is an average defender with the way he can shoot.
-
Harris would have been fine on defense if this hadn't been his first game.

No
-
The worst defenders tonight, in order, were:
1. Hurt
2. Wes
3. Nino
4. Vulture
-
That reminds me, can we talk about how hilarious it is that Vulture started? It's like some beautiful middle school crap, or something Frank would do against FHSU

I was just going to comment on this.
I mean, if that isn't a gigantic white flag on this season, I don't know what is.
oscar's final chess move is to suspend his two best recruits in successive classes on the same day AND start a walk on at point guard in a game that was critical to keeping already incredibly slim hopes of post season dreams alive was just so perfect.
And the fact that Vulture wasn't that much worse than what we've seen was doubly hilarious.
-
the information available suggests that suspending foster was no more weber's idea than suspending samuels' was martin's idea.
-
Also, the parts I watched, Jevon was by far the worst defender. And I saw Harris play quite a bit.

This game really highlighted for me how much oscar doesn't like Bolden.

With the current PG recruiting, and by that I mean us watching every JUCO PG between Vancouver and Miami, shows me how likely we are to showing both Johnson and Thomas the door in the offseason.
It seems like they want Hardinett and a JUCO guy.

Rohlderer was the worst by far. That open 3 to start the game. :frown:
-
One of the most infuriating moments of the night was when Jevon's man attempted a steal deep in our back court Jevon beat him badly, only to slow down and let the defender catch up by half court. Didn't affect the game at all, but I was so pissed.

shared in chat by emawnymous as the standard three game suspension for the standard reason bball players are suspended three games.

Lay it down, flip it and reverse it

What kind of shots was the offense trying to generate last night?
I mean, I watched the game, and I have no idea. Except for the times that Harris was on the floor, no one really wanted to take a 3. The lack of FTs show they weren't trying to work it inside.
It looked like the gameplan was to run at least 25 seconds off the clock without any real attempt at a shot, followed by the best guarded 2 that was available.
-
Early it was get the ball to Gip. Then we tried to get some looks for Nino, but he was launching bricks. Eventually Tech just triple teamed Gip. We tried some penetration, but Jevon and Edwards missed. The only thing that kept it close was a little flurry from Edwards and then Tre. Tre and Edwards got at least 2 more wide open threes down the stretch, but they wouldn't fall and we were done.
Wes really did nothing, and getting no production from him, Nino, or Edwards killed us.
-
Man, this team really sucks. Roehlder should have looked awful compared to the other guys but there was hardly a noticeable difference. What a crap show.
-
I thought Roehlder looked like a walk on. He was completely no threat to score (at least Nigel and Jevon shot and missed) and he had a really hard time guarding Tech's poor guards.
-
I mean, stats are funny.
With Marcus less than 30% of our shot attempts are threes. Without Marcus in this game 36.7% of our shots were threes.

Oh yea, he was pretty slow at closing out their shooters. Turner, for Tech , can shoot. He didn't kill Vulture, but would have if he played more minutes. On another note, Turner seems like a world class bad person.
oscar starting Vulture probably only solidifies his job in the eyes of the head in sand, tuck crowd. It becomes a convenient "deserving white boy" move by oscar. If the herb smoking is the reason Marcus and Malek were suspended, the tuck perception is even more solidified.
All of this is to suggest we've probably got oscar until at least 2017.

This is explained as a result of probably 2 things:
1- they packed in defensively and dared us to shoot
2- we are terribly coached

Perhaps for some. Eventually people will run out of patience for "losing the right way", especially at current market value. I think that will be 2 years, 3 at the most. IMO, there are plenty of people I think most gE folks would consider tucks that are not happy with the state of the program right now.

Oh, they definitely dared us to shoot. And to be fair, we shot okay (33%) from 3. It was shooting 42% on 2s (compared to 59% for Tech) that was a bigger problem.
-
PowercatRyan had a pretty hot take that he like he liked Roehleder getting the start
-
Vulture started? holy crap
I originally heard Jevon was suspended, too. So, I am hoping that the reason Jevon didn't start is because he was in trouble but not to the extent that Foster and Harris were. Even so, it makes no sense to start Rodh over Nigel. I was puzzled by the move. It was very Frank Martin-like. And, if memory serves, we never recovered the lead after getting down 8 or so early.

Happy to hear this. I've got limited interaction with that crowd being far from MHK.

Except frank would start Ojeleye, who can at least play at the big twelve level.
