Title: What's it gonna take?
Post by: kslim on January 18, 2015, 10:08:08 AM
What's the win total have to be to get in? Known stud and EMAW Doug gottlieb has us a lock if we win 18 games. Will that do it with our shitty loses?

The Big 12 is considered the best league in the country, if we get eleven Big 12 wins (counting KC) we'll have at least 7 quality wins in there and that will probably be enough in spite of our OOC.

10-8 feels right.  Would be ideal to get 2 wins from the 6 games against ISU KU WVU

68 teams have to make it. The last 3-4 teams that get in could have weak resumes. They usually do. If we went 11-8 or 11-9 ( that counts Kc)..... I believe our chances are better than 50/50 and I would like our chances of sneaking in.

However, That puts us at either 18-14 or 18-15, so far from a safe bet or a "lock" getting in with 11 conf wins.

Like every year, it depends on what the rest of the bubble looks like.

It is difficult to imagine us getting above "bubble" status, but as long as we beat TCU and Tech on the road, we won't have any "bad" losses and any win we get will be "quality". So basically, staying above .500 overall with no bad conference losses will likely have us in the discussion.

It's very true. Team #65 getting in could have a decent resume, while teams 66-68 could have shaky ones.  We won't know til early to mid March.    3 home games and a game at Tech in our next 6 games... We have the opportunity to build some on this 4-1 start.

While oscar has some terrible home losses in the OOC, he's been great at home against Big 12 teams. We'll see if he can keep that up.

Good chance we win one of last two home games. We are going to battle Baylor again. We should have some confidence from ripping their zone apart in the second half with Foster on the bench.

OK, I'm going to say that if we go 10-8 and don't lose to Tech or TCU, we'll have a real good shot of getting in.

Here's a pretty good resume summary (since the idiot RPI is all that matters to the idiot committee):

http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/rpi/_/groupId/8/teamId/2306

Here's the remaining games outside of Tech and TCU (the first number is RPI):

UPCOMING GAMES   TIME
15   Jan. 20   @ Iowa State   7:00 PM
32   Jan. 24   Oklahoma St   12:00 PM
17   Jan. 27   West Virginia   7:00 PM
3   Jan. 31   @ Kansas   2:00 PM
14   Feb. 7   Texas   4:00 PM
17   Feb. 11   @ West Virginia   7:00 PM
27   Feb. 14   Oklahoma   8:00 PM
19   Feb. 21   @ Baylor   1:00 PM
3   Feb. 23   Kansas   9:00 PM
15   Feb. 28   Iowa State   12:00 AM
14   Mar. 7   @ Texas   12:00 AM

Win 4 of those 11, and our record against the top 50 is 7-10, our only bad loss would be to Texas Southern. we'd be good.

of course, I'm sure we'll drop one of those two "must wins" and then it gets a little hairy.

i'm gonna guess that not all of the middle 7 teams are going to end up 8-10, 9-9, 10-8 bunched.  at least one (seems like maybe ut at this exact moment in time) will probably lose enough to end up not looking like such a quality opponent.

Even if we do manage to squeak in with squeaky, we'll be a high seed and will be bounced in the first. At least with the NIT we could get a home court advantage to win a game and party in the ville afterwards with Margs and other drinks.  :Woot:
