For me, I'm so incredibly pissed at how bad the effort was over the last 6 weeks that I think I need 10 more conf wins, no losses at home, compete for the big xii, followed by a quality run in the big xii tourney, then win at least one game in the ncaa. So, like 14 or 15 more wins.
I don't need any eff ups telling me this is a pipe dream, this is what I need not to think this season was a complete waste.
-
Just one, in the NCAA Tournament.
-
It may be unrealistic, but my watermark is the NCAA tournament. Want at least a win, but getting there means a good season overall.
-
Honestly, if this team can salvage getting to the NIT I'd be okay. NCAAs and I'll be very pleased with this season.
-
IMHO, this season could have a very 08-09 feel to it going into next year if we can have a decent Big 12 and get to postseason.
-
I'm all for lowering standards so that we can make ourselves feel better about the season. So, if we make the CBI, i'd say give oscar an extension and put up a banner.

Yep, this is exzacktly what I meant.

However many more wins it takes to be an 11 seed in the dance

Wasn't there already a season expectations thread?
Yes, but I think this is the "expectations after your expectations were crushed" thread.
-
My expectation hasn't changed
-
My expectation hasn't changed
Post season based expectations to which regular season can have zero consequence but allow an alternative path?
My expectation every year is to safely make the NCAA tournament.

Rusty's consistency as a BBSer and Cat fan is impressive. He doesn't often get caught up in the ridiculous swings of emotion that most do.
-
oscar is forever dead to me, he has shown his stripes. That said, I really did enjoy yesterday's game. I never thought we would see that against Oklahoma and on the road, no less. oscar overcame so much adversity I would like to nominate last night's win as his biggest achievement so far at Kansas State. Nice work, "Bad-B" :emawkid:
If the team builds off the flashes of "teamness" and consistency it showed yesterday, they could grow to be really quite good. However, I'm not sure I'll stay invested, it's not worth letting oscar's consistency issues drag my dick through the dirt all season long. my dick has already had quite enough
-
I would LOL at a 10 win conference season that leaves us out of the NCAA, because of oscar's rough ridin' non-con.

Scheduling is more important than recruiting

I wouldn't laugh, I would cry.
-
I don't want poor coaching and poor play early in the season to effect what we thought this team was capable of. I think anything over 6-7 conference losses would be disappointing. Not showing growth from last year would be sad. Basically this team needs to put its self on the bubble.
-
Given our struggles in noncon, making the NIT would "salvage" the season for me. I think we need 8 more wins to make that happen. That would put us at 17-14 (10-8). I think that would be just barely enough.
Despite yesterday's W, I have zero expectations that this team can make the NCAA. That would require a level of maturity, consistency and toughness that this team has repeatedly shown it does not have. Therefore, this season is a disappointment. Making the NIT would be just enough to avoid calling it a disaster.

Tournament.
Pass.

We must not lower expectations.
-
This season will only be saved if the number of wins = or < Currie's magic number to fire oscar. Unfortunately, I think we've already surpassed that number so this season is in the tank regardless.

Your second paragraph is spot on.
I also think it's dumb that one win against a good team and some are already talking about making the tournament. This team has 7 losses already, and I think out of those 7 team's we've lost to, two will probably make the NCAA Tournament and quite possibly only one. We just have too many bad losses.

The total number sucks, but according to the RPI, only Texas Southern is a "bad loss".
It is conceivable that if we can keep the total losses from 13-15, and we get the right wins, and maybe win one or two in the Big 12 tournament that we could get in. That's a testament to the Big 12's RPI more than anything.

8 seed.

LBSU may have a top 100 RPI right now, but they will end up being a bad loss. Their RPI will drop from here on out now that they are playing their conference schedule and not the likes of Louisville, Syracuse, and St. John's.

Anything less than top 4 in Big 12 and a 6 or higher seed in the NCAA would be a disappointing season.
-
Would expectations be higher after we hit the 3-1 mark in conference?
-
conference title
-
postseason hopes are basically finished. i could smile about the season if we swept ku, isu, and ou but didn't win another one besides. going 9-9 and losing to these programs will really suck.
-
NCAA tournament. Won't happen but that's what I would need to be satisfied

i hope you are being serious here and not making fun of us

We are 9-7 (2-1). To have a shot to make the tournament, we would need to finish 10-5 in a tough conference.
The NIT is what I expect now. That doesn't mean that NIT is acceptable. Anything less than the NCAAs and I consider this and nearly any season a failure.

Ten wins? Hmm.
Really good chance: Tech
Good Chance: @ Tech, @ TCU
Decent chance: Any home game, I guess, except Kansas (6 more, excluding Tech and Kansas)
Poor Chance: 7 more, excluding Kansas
No Chance: @Kansas
I guess if we win the three we really need to win against Tech and TCU, and we can win 5/6 home games outside of Tech and KU (which is a tall order), and we go 2/6 on the road, that's ten.
But they can't screw up at all going forward. They need to play ball like they did against OU all year long now. I'm not sure they can do that. But it's possible, I guess.

No, I'm being serious. This should be a really good team.
The only difference between me and the rest of the board is that I don't want to try to make judgments in the middle of a season.
My expectations for this season not being a disappointment are the same as they were in November. I'm still hoping that the season will not be a disappointment, but I'm not willing to change the expectations that existed going into the season.
