Title: Fond farewells for K-State's season high passing record holder.
Post by: HerrSonntag on January 05, 2015, 10:02:26 AM
Its fair to say Jake Waters was not universally loved for his time under center by katsfans on this board.  But now his watch is ended and we're afforded the luxury of waxing nostalgic on a senior quarterback who broke Freemaw's passing record with 3,501 yards through the air in a single season.

Wish him well, won't you?

I agree.  Even ChiCat Fiance was saying at the end of the UCLA game that at least it is our last game with Waters.  I didn't think I made my hate for him that transparent throughout the season.

Jake was a good (not great) QB at K-State. He wasn't good enough to carry a team like Bishop/Klein, but he did some nice things and had a great connection with Lockett and Sexton. I will remember him positively, but he's still well below Bishop, Klein, and Roberson (at least) in my K-State QB memories.

He'll likely get a shot with some NFL team and may end up hanging on as a back-up or third string/practice team guy. Arena League seems more likely if he wants to continue to play.

For the most part, I will only say good things about athletes that come to Kansas State and wear purple.

Blame the coaches if you want better players.

I will remember Jake fondly: He won a bowl, he enabled us to really enjoy lockett, and he got us within a game of a Dr. Pepper.

Title: Re: Fond farewells for K-State's season high passing record holder.
Post by: Panjandrum on January 06, 2015, 09:32:04 AM
Jake had a really good year.  All things considered, he was within the Top 10 or Top 15 of almost every passing stat out there.  He had a 3/1 TD/INT ratio.  He was incredibly efficient and consistently got the ball to our best player so he could make plays.

We even had two receivers go over 1000 yards for the first time in school history, which is impressive considering that we weren't really a pure pass oriented team.  The only other two schools to have that this year were Baylor and ECU.  Considering our pace, that's a pretty amazing stat.

In retrospect, our offensive line was really subpar, especially at the tackle position.  In games where Jake had even moderate protection, he did really well, regardless of whether or not the running game could get going at all (i.e. WVU).  And we really did have one of the worst running games in the nation (Ranked #104 in yards per carry).

I'm going to remember him as a really good college quarterback that had some decent success, but I would have liked to see what he could have done with a much better offensive line.

things I will miss about Jake:

-beating most of the teams we were supposed to beat (D1 only). good consistency
-long bombs to lockett
-good message board conversations discussing if he sucks or doesn't suck (and especially reading posts from people mad about other people discussing if he sucks or doesn't suck)

things I won't miss:

-not feeling like we had a chance to beat good teams. good consistency unfortunately
-losing to a D2 school
-fawning over Iowa State and Paul Rhodes

Farewell things I will miss Jake. You just get out of here things I won't miss Jake.

Give me a break.  It's not a complaint.  Probably more of a "eff off" to all the pussies on this board who wouldn't even be able to continue to write stupid posts with this shoulder injury, let alone play d-1 football with the injury.

It has a hint of a complaint/excuse. Though its not much compared to excuses that you hear a lot nowadays.

Don't worry, I still think he is a stud.

Fact.

I can see how you rough ridin' idiots would think that given all of the time Freeman missed in his pro and college career due to injury. I don't think he missed a single snap in college or the NFL because of an injury. He was horribly 'sketti brained in his last game. I know neither of you idiots will but I'm interested in knowing your basis for calling Freeman soft.

According to the sentence, he was.

Maybe not. I misread. Who knows.

It's an event in his life he chose to share on his social media. JFC. Even if it is a complaint, he's done as a player and absolutely earned the right given what he sacrificed for the team and our enjoyment as fans.
