-
if anybody has any alamo bowl live coverage questions, feel free to ask and ill do my best to answer.
-
overall surprisingly bad looking group of people headed out of mhk this morning. I am easily the best looking person on this whole flight.
-
flight out of mhk now delayed. I hate American airlines.
-
ORD update? Was curious about the length of the drive from Austin to SA and saw this:
The highway is noted for having the entire route with a speed limit of at least 80 mph (130 km/h). The 41-mile section of the toll road between Mustang Ridge and Seguin has a posted speed limit of 85 mph (137 km/h), the highest posted speed limit in the United States.

-
Tortas?

Field correspondent SB checking in. Lotsa trash on the side of the highway near Lafayette but what else is new. Considering stopping at The Lion's Den because I forgot to get my parents a Christmas present. Back to you, RowdyBoyy.

What about hot babes? You hound dogs have to got to be cleaning up down there.
-
my gate (k3) was ten feet away from tortas fronterra. got a mollette and now am in the aisle seat exit row. wow this day turned around quickly! also, cats are favored by 2. go cats.
-
healthy lockett should have a big game and the embassy suites riverwalk has managers reception tonight from 5-7. :Woohoo:
-
Funny story about Lockett. He, along with Barnett, attended my BIL's Christmas party. They had a casino night theme. So at the end of the night TLBL had $900+ in chips. He was like I can't accept this. Can you start a scholarship fund or give it to charity? It was play money. It was more endearing when SdK sis told the story, but

For any out-of-staters, there are no toll booths. Just breeze through and they'll send a bill to wherever your vehicle is registered. Be prepared to be surprised by the cost, though. Also, you'll be driving past Lockhart, in case you want to try some of the world's most famous BBQ. Also, 130 begins just north of Georgetown.

Texas is so fancy!
-
Any animals on your flight?
-
Texas is so fancy!
Similar to L.A.
-
I don't think LA even has that kind of fancy stuff!
-
I can't wait for Texas pics and anecdotes!
-
One of you needs to volunteer to maintain a constant watch on Bill and see if he looks quity at any point. Also, choose a friend or current wife (or any other capable member of your party) to keep an eye on Sean and see if he looks like a guy who is all pumped up for his promotion, or if he instead looks all upset and like his current lifestyle is about to over and has to go get a real job.

Damn Rick, I missed you in ORD by like 5 minutes. Probably by like an hour after security, bit still
-
El Elegénte Motel in Beaumont doesn't look very elegénte iyam. And now I find myself wondering if the Ford Amphitheater thing nearby is big enough for Def Leppard to play there or is it too small of potatoes amphitheater-wise? I'd put the capacity of that baby at close to or slightly above ECU's basketball arena. (Included here simply for comparo purposes for ITK stade-heads, NOT because the Leps ever played there.) (To my knowledge.)
That's all for now, this has been your SB I-10 Def Leppard Beaumont Alamo Bowl drive time update.

Where is the vehicle registered? They will send the bill to the address on the registration.
-
I drive on the dfw toll ways all the time and have never gotten a bill. Spracne doesn't know what he's talking about. Denver will hunt you down, however.

one of my company's offices in Kansas somewhere I suppose. I've never looked at the registration. I'm guessing some administrative assistant somewhere is just getting tons of bills from my driving and just paying them. debating on ordering a tolltag so the bills come to me and I can put them on my amex or just continuing to ride this thing and see what happens.

this is what the NTTA website says:
What about vehicles with out-of-state license plates?
NTTA currently partners with a third party to acquire out-of-state vehicle information. NTTA aggressively pursues all tolls owed, whether the vehicle is registered in Texas or another state.
I've never gotten a bill either but that's what it says
-
I'd put that on my website as well. They don't try and find you and they don't bill you.

well either way, at the end of the day, who cares

People who want to drive on fabulous uncongested highways care

Can confirm posted 85 this morning on drive down from DFW. Toll Road so we had out our change and $1 bills out. No need its either Texas version of KTag or "pay by mail." They have cameras shoot pix of your plate as you pass the "booth" and mail you the bill. Will be interested how long that takes on a rental car.

you'll get a bill in the mail within a month or so from a third party who handles them for whatever rental company you use, they'll tack on like a $15 processing fee as well

It can be worse than your estimate. I took a rental car through one here over summer and Hertz declared that by incurring a too, that I'd opted into their toll service at $5/day for the length of the rental, plus paying the toll.
On the drive here, Gooch & I drove the Budget truck through some stretch of CO that apparently was a toll road, and I'm just now being asked to pay the toll + $10.
-
lots of ugly people in purple. cold. damp. crappy sports bar named tickets. going to have to mix this up.

Field correspondent SB checking in. I am in San Antonio and very much in the belly of the beast, folks. Things are purple, things are buzzing, and well, and let me tell you: I forgot my suitcase full of clothes back in New Orleans. Gonna have to find a place that sells clothes or something. Okay, back to you snoozers for the traffic report.

leaving @ 7am, first stop will be West for kolaches

Can I come pak with some of you guys at whatever bar you're at? :shy:

Have only seen 2 bruins fans on River walk.

I hope one of you guys gets Eric Stonestreet's autograph!

driving south on 35w. light rain. overbuilt, utilitarian texas highway system handling traffic well thus far. love the scenic nature of this drive with the historical access roads and gas stations on either side of the highway.

I was serious though. Does anyone have any socks I can borrow?

4 pages of Traveling to the Alamo Bowl live coverage. Let some people report from the riverwalk, pep rally, local bars, players hotels, etc.

I can't believe our on site reporters are failing us this badly. There should be pictures, stories, and joy to be had by all. Instead we unfortunate few who could not make the game have been relegated to these drunken incoherent reports of Texas highway infrastructure. I DEMAND AN UPDATE THAT WILL GET THE EMAW JUICES FLOWING!!!

had lunch and several drinks at the esquire, awesome place. sheraton Gunter a very nice little historical hotel right off riverwalk. about to go bar hop until game time.

austin taco place. they have some pretty zany ones. you'd love it. also bad traffic on 35 today. coming up, breakfast at e suites- dog vomit, waxy oconners on riverwalk-ok, all kstate fans were either 60 or thirteen. weird.

I liked the torchy's update better before I knew what torchy's was. No need to redo rankings because it was already in last place. I'm also not going to rank any additional updates. The window for update ranking is closed.

elite queso, decent salsa, cheap frozen margaritas, a bunch of zany tacos. people hype it up a bit too much but it is really good. Diablo sauce is great. their tacos of the month can be really fun. last March it was a chicken and waffle taco. I went and got it like 6 times. this August they had 4 tacos of the month that were all super spicy and increased in spiciness so it was like a challenge. #4 was a ghost pepper taco and my mouth was numb by the time I finished it. wow

35 yesterday was a shitshow. Saw a 10 car pile up happen 8 feet in front of us just south of Austin. Superior driving skills by Phil was the first to avoid it.
El arroyo in Austin yesterday delish as always.

ate at Contigo last night (amazing) and some breakfast tacos from consuelos this morning follow by a nice walk down shoal creek. Austin is probably my favorite city in the unites states. also, the ucla coach apparently did some weird stuff after the game.

google tells me 2027 anchor lane. i would guess the locals would call it east central? nice outdoor area w/ firepit and some hot toddy action, followed up by really good food inside.

torchy's is the best "tacos for white people" place you will ever find. try the "secret" menu to look like you're "in the know"!
contigo's is great if you don't have to wait forever. Haven't had Consuelo's yet because it's on the opposite end of town as me and I just haven't made it yet. Partial to Amaya's Taco Village myself.
Shoal Creek

i may have been in fort worth for work when you were in san antonio :peek:

close friend lives just east of mopac on 39th. i grabbed torchys just because i knew where it was and it was close to his place and 35 up took forever putting me an hour behind coming up from san antonio. it is what it is and i really like it, but if i lived there i probably wouldn't get it much. kind of touristy or whatever. the other places were great though and if i could live my whole life in the US somewhere other than mhk, it would be austin. gotta get back there more often.
