Are these serious? I got an oil change on 12/13 and now have 50% oil life according to my Honda accords computer. Just started noticing a decent sized spill overnight.
1) will I make it to KC today?
2) will just putting another can or two of oil be sufficient when I get back in a week?
-
I'd fill it before you leave, and check/fill it every time you get gas.
If it lost 50% in two weeks, you should be good for a couple days after filling it up.
You might just have a stripped or cross threaded bolt. Fuckers did that to me once and I lost an engine.
-
If you are flying, and letting the car sit, take extra oil and fill it before you head home.
-
i think oil life refers to amount of miles to your next oil change. 10,000 miles is what most are factory set to so if you change yours every 3-4000 miles like BOCB (big oil change business) has brainwashed you to believe and you had a rookie change your oil and forget to reset the oil life thingie then BAM you have solved your problem.
-
Filter could be loose or over tightened.

Where do you get oil on Xmas?

I think you may be missing a few clues there Sherlock. Go take a few more tokes on your smoker BBQ boy.

I believe this in my heart.

I am trying to remain calm so I am choosing not to listen to Pete today.

or, or maybe you have confused your brains that have spilled out onto the ground as engine oil as oil life warnings have nothing to do with volume of oil. that or you just happen to have 2 issues, non maintenance reset and an oil leak. did you even check your dipstick you dipstick?

Yeah, oil life is different from how much oil is in your engine. I know because I have to reset that damn thing on my wife's Accord after I take it to the cheapest possible oil change place.

Not at the pump, typically. 7-11's and Quick Trips are open. Do you need me to come give you oil?

This is what I am saying. My first piece of advice was to check the rough ridin' oil, ya know? Jeesh.

Like I get what you guys are saying. What I am saying is that if I park my car for an hour I can check my oil on the pavement.
-
That's not normal

That would be a true Christmas miracle.

How do you know that the fluid on the pavement is oil? As long as you've got oil on the dipstick, you're fine.
-
KK wasn't about to get outshined by lsoc' electrical debacle of a thread

This is a decent point. It looks a lot like oil tho. What else could it be?
-
maybe the oil is coming from the ground. do you own the mineral rights for the driveway?
-
transmission fluid

Water, coolant, power steering fluid, gas. To me, it all just looks dark and greasy when in a puddle on the ground.

mr. detroit. oh, the irony.
-
I made it guys
-
congrats kk, you earned it
-
Cars don't actually need oil. It's a scam.
-
These are all questions former girlfriends have asked me.
Hey dipstick, lift the hood and check the dipstick. If there's not enough oil, put more in. it's like $2.50 per quart.
-
Ok great work team. Now for phase II:
How much is fixing the leak going to cost?

Considering the possible ambiguity (maybe irony?) in that, FSD, I'm not sure I'd brag about that. Are they really talking about an "oil change?" Just sayin'

Obviously, that depends on the nature of the leak itself. Is it the plug bolt? Oil filter? Oil pan? Timing chain tensioner? Valve cover? Front end seals?
To find out you're first going to need to know the general layout and terminology of your engine and its parts, respectively. Then you're going to have to clean the crap out of that engine all the way to the oil pan.
It's not hard though. Go buy some purple power from O'Reillys and head to a car wash. Spray everything down with the PP and then rinse.
Then go home and put a clean piece of cardboard underneath your engine; needs to be big enough to catch any possible leak. Wait till morning and trace the source of the leak from the cardboard up; you'll see the new oil if you look good enough above the cardboard spot(s). Trace the oil, looking at the seals and joints from the oil pan up along your engine, to the highest point with an obvious amount of oil and you've found your leak. Depending on where that is tells you the cost; probably a good chance its something you can fix if you're up to it.

Making a guess from this bit of info (and assumeing there was no leak before the oil change) it's most likely a loose or cross threaded drain plug or loose oil filter ooooor some times the rubber seal off the old filter sticks to the engine and then they screwed the new filter on top of that old rubber packing and that's causing a leak.
All of those would cost very little to fix.
