Title: What would our record be if you were coach?
Post by: Lucas Scoopsalot on December 12, 2014, 09:59:54 AM
First off, If I was coach we wouldn't have lost to LBSU, Tenn, and we possibly pull the upset over Arizona.

Starting 5:
PG/SG: Marcus Foster : 35min/gm   15 minutes at pg and 20 at sg
SG/SF: Hopper: 25 min/gm
SF: Westicles: 25-30 min/gm
PF: Nino Williams: 25-30 min/gm
C: Thomas Gipson: 25 min/gm

It's really hard because no one else, even some in the starting 5, have showed that they know how to score. Not really sure what to do with Jevon and Nigel because they just aren't that good, so split time evenly, but don't play them too much. Also, make sure Jevon and Nigel are not on the floor at the same time. Malek is still a freshman so throw him in at the 3 spot or 4 spot. Make Hurt learn to play both 4 and 5, play more when Gip is in foul trouble. Give Tre Harris a 5-10 minute window to go hit a 3 or something, but don't put him in twice unless we need a 3 at the end of the game.

Other than those exceptions, the starting 5 should play 25+ minutes because they are our best athletes and give us the best chance to score.

Overall: 8-1 with a loss in the Maui final to SDSU or whatever.

GO!

I'd be pressing the crap out of teams and dropping into a zone. So we'd be. . .undefeated.

Oh, and Angel and I would have been bros. . .so he would still be playing for the cats.

I've never been to a basketball practice, let alone coached one, so I don't think we'd have a very good record.

I also wouldn't be running oscar's shitty offense

This thread isn't about being rational, CF3. It's about letting all the anger out and becoming one of the best arm chair coaches of all time.

Yeah, that thing is tired as hell. I get so  :curse: when we have an offense that doesn't move or interact. Do we run any set plays? I don't recall seeing any.

If I were coach, our guys' hands would be sore from floor touches and double high fives.

Gonna win 'em all!

Just pretend Ned Yost threw oscar Chen out there in the 10th against the Twins up 5-4. Do you remember that game? Let it boil, CF3

I have no idea, but if my results weren't better than oscar's this season, I'd quit and go do something I'm good at.

Undefeated. I'd be like "Hey idiots, how 'bout playing a little defense, you ever hear of that one? By and large you're being silly. Selfish and silly. No go do it right. And stop the damn fireworks"

We'd win every dang game. And NOT WITH FOOLS GOLD 3 POINTERS BUT WITH THE TRIANGLE!

Yeah, I would cuss and scream and smack people on the head and become a media sideshow so the guys could focus on basketball. We'd go 4 around one on offense with Marcus, Tre, Nigel and Wes/Nino  and Gip inside getting most of the minutes, jacking threes and crashing boards. Vulture off the bench quickly for energy/message sending. We still probably lose to the Beach and Arizona, and probably Bradley because the guys would have no legs after all the running we did after a close win at Tennessee. We plan to drop the first 4 games of the confy, then go 11-3 to tie for fourth. Lose inexplicably to O-state in first round of the Phillips, win round 2 as the 7 seed, then run into Wisconsin....and destroy them. We lose in the Sweet 16 to 11 seed South Carolina, which has the highest viewer ratings for the tourney and Gus signs an emergency contract with CBS to do the play by play.

This (or worse) is the correct answer for anyone on this blog.

- This isn't supposed to involve rational thought.

We might be the same, but the post would just play defense, and I would tell the rest if you can't dunk on a breakaway than no more than one pass and a 3 point shot should be taken ( Hurt could come down and shoot a 3 once in a while as well.  We would win by 50or lose by 100 but it would be fun to watch. Nigel, foster, Tre and Edwards would be lighten it up.

I would have my team just shoot 3's. My lineup would be Foster, Nigel, Tre, Old Spice, and Nino. We would rough ridin' stomp the crap out of teams.

I'd have them dunk it every play.

We'd be terrible, probably like 2-9...

I should also say that I'd be a terrible couch, and you should fire JC immediately if he hired me.

At what time can a head coach legitimately stop coaching an offense and put in something like this?

That's still coaching offense, just coaching a different way. Plenty of coaches employ the no shot is a bad shot approach and launch threes.

How often is that an effective solution? I guess I don't have a frame of reference in NCAABB to know if a coach has been successful with it in the past.

Grinnell use to score like 160 points a game and still lose somehow.

If I remember right, the year that KU lost to Bradley it was because Bradley made like a stupid amount of threes.

I imagine it would be like when you're playing pickup at the rec and your team is clearly better. . .but the other team has some rando who doesn't miss threes and so you lose and have to wait 45 minutes to get back on a court.

Saying, that could be us.

That's more of a fluke thing.

I'd say coaches that are very successful and rely the most on 3s are Donovan and Beilein. Hoiberg, Bo Ryan, and Wright are up there as well, but consistently Michigan and Florida shoot the most 3s and have good teams.

I would be undedeated.  I would give them boot camp like Hooterville Bill at KU, and make them eat spinach and liver to get iron in their blood.  I would give them geritol and nappie times when they are tired.  I would threaten their smiley whites will not be on the Jumbotron if they play lousy.  Even if we had to play Barney reruns on it.

My dad was a coach back in the day and pretty good at it, so coaching is probably in my genes or dockers. If so and having watched Weber's effort this year, I'd say two, three games better to date.
