Purple = Top 5 in each category. Red = Bottom 5 in each category.

So Snyder leans heavily on the pass when he has the least amount of talent, interesting.

He actually used to talk about that in the early 90's as a way to "even the table" against the likes of NU.

Michael Bishop was so underrated, those numbers are ridiculous

Is pass blocking easier for Olinemen?

More room for error.

I think our production this year certainly supports that idea.

When it comes to Snyder QBs, its Bishop and then everyone else. (and some of those other guys were really good) IMHO.

I wonder if Bill wants defensive balance via pass% vs run%.

300 yards per game rushing allowed.  :blindfold:

Spread offenses taint all per game defensive stats. Those should be per snap numbers for the sake of valid comparisons.

That was the gold era of rushing offenses in the Big 8, even better than spread offenses now in the big 12.

Points per play and yards per play are at the end of the chart. Also yards per rush and yards per attempt.

I wonder if Bill wants defensive balance via pass% vs run%.

Maybe, but I don't think there is much you can do now. I think the defensive chart moreso than the offensive chart shows the shift of offenses in college football in the 00s.

Oops, missed that, thanks. Who would have thought 2002 to be our best defensive season?

I want K-State to be so full of studs and badasses that none of us even care about silly things like penalties and turnovers again.

Yes. And these are pure offense and defense numbers, no points from special teams. Special teams would be a separate thing to look at as well as turnovers. I only have good turnover stats back to 2000.

no need to do this, but I always thought points per possession was a better indicator. it also seems like it's harder to find that stat than points per play for football. Why?

It would be great, but possession/drive based stats are hard to get except for the last few years. It would take looking at every box score to get them.

Said in his book that passing is a talent equalizer.  Much tougher to be bigger and stronger in the trenches

2002 never ever gets brought up in the best team discussion, its like a football discussion black hole. Those numbers are :surprised: the only thing I really remember about 2002 is that Holiday Bowl and T Suggs totally wrecking everything but it not being enough. Ell was a tough sonofabitch.

Yeah, that team was really amazing.  Seems bogus that a 2 loss team (by 7 total points i think?) got relegated to the holiday bowl.

I remember them being awesome and bring them up in the best team discussion all the time. They had the best defense I've ever seen and had Ell, Sproles and JT beta version. I routinely hear people say that the 2002 team was better than 2003, not that that necessarily means they are in the best team discussion.

How the hell they ever lost to Colorado I'll never no.

Roberson was also still a work in progress in 02. Against UT and CU he completed less than 40% at about 6 yards per attempt.

we also avoided OU/Tech/A&M
Nubb was terrible, KU terrible, mizzou, terrible etc.

Defense was legit though.

You are right that the game was blown by our DC, but Bennet was gone by then. It was Iowa reject Bob Elliot in 2002. Bret Bielma might have been listed as Co DC, but I always though that was more a courtesy than anything to keep him from moving on or to give him more money and that Elliot was calling the shots on D.

Vegas said we were the best team in the country in 2002.  Would've been favored over anybody.
