is it Snyder's best career win?
-
No
-
Up there, but its hard to pass 03 OU.
-

This. Some think we have a chance this weekend, but nobody thought we had a chance in 03 against OU.
-
If we win and get into the playoff, then I think it would be the most imporant win.
-
if iowa st. beats tcu, and we somehow get in the playoff. the answer is not yes, it's eff YES.
-
It wouldn't be as big as OU '03. It probably wouldn't be as big for the program as Nebraska '98, either.
-
the OU game was basically at home, tho.
this is a road game, with the same stakes on the line (much more is on the line this time if other things happen)
-
also baylor is not overlooking us in any way.
-
NOPE!!!
-
I don't think OU was overlooking the Big 12 Championship game for a title game that was still 6 weeks away. It felt like more was on the line against Nebraska in '98, too. We had a better team and a real shot at actually winning the title game.
-
with an obvious exception for a national title win, there is no win that can surpass ou '03.
-

as big for the program? OU in 03 was so big for the program, the cats built off of it by getting blown out in the 7th place game (Fiesta Bowl), piling up 9 wins over the next two seasons, and 1 bowl appearance over the next 6.
this game could get the cats in a semi-final. IF that happens, it's a better win.
-
@OU 2 years ago was a pretty big win... that was win the world still thought OU was invincible at home.
that very first Nub win in 98 was very special.
2003 OU has to be the all time best win.

The importance of a win isn't necessarily related to the thereafter. You can't judge the 98 win over Nub by the loss to cultaggie.

This game can only get the cats into a semi-final if 3 other teams all choke on the same weekend. It can only win the Big 12 outright if TCU loses at home to Iowa State.

Nebraska '98 set the stage for us to beat two teams we were favored against to reach the title game. At best this game would give us the chance to play a team we would be a double digit dog to for a chance at reaching the title game.

he asked if it would be his best career win, not importance. i don't know about you, but you would have to look at a career as a whole, after the games are played, right?
-
and the tcu/flood aggie game will have already been done for a few hours before the wild wild cats take the field for either a split or whole dr. pepper.

so like, there was only 30,000 or so cat fans at that game?

tops. Probably more like 25k

yeah, it was around 70-30 OU fans. OU fans started buying tickets at half time of the OU/Texas game in early October - cat fans had to wait for NU fans to unload theirs after 38-9.

If KSU wins, I will eat my hat.

does anyone care how the Jack Gardner cats got to the natty in '51? no, no one gives a eff. the point is they had a chance to win the whole damn thing because they were in the actual game, not how they got there. so, i'd say the final 4 win was the defacto best win in the programs lifespan, because it put them in place for the biggest win in its history.
in saying that, if a few things fall the right way, snyds could lead the cats into the biggest game in program history in a few weeks (playoff semi-final)*, so I would say the win that got them there is the best win at the time. they win the semi-final and make it to the champ game, it's the best win. then of course, the natty.
*i'm in no way saying this will happen or even expecting it, just trying give one side an argument
-
also a good point shooter.
How late in the season was the 98 NU game played?
-
also a good point shooter.
How late in the season was the 98 NU game played?
Second to last game of the regular season. Only a game against Missouri and the Big 12 championship followed.
-
also a good point shooter.
How late in the season was the 98 NU game played?
2nd to last, had a grinder against a tough MU squad to end the season the next week.
-
I can think of probably 10 games that would be better.
-
also a good point shooter.
How late in the season was the 98 NU game played?
November 14th. But the significance of beating Nebraska wouldn't be any less had we played them in September because of the history going into the game.
I get the arguments that make this Baylor game a big one and no doubt it will be Top 5 for K-State/Snyder if we win. However, I can't discount winning a conference title for the first time in 69 years. Yes, getting an opportunity to play for a national title and be in the playoff would be enormous and if that indeed happens then I may change my mind because it will be the first time ever, but I still look at the other dominoes that have to fall for that to happen and it isn't at that point (best ever) for me yet.
-
I can think of probably 10 games that would be better.
please list 10 Snyder wins that are better than the opportunity presented by this weekend's game at baylor

there are a lot of things that can happen this weekend to adjust where this win would be.
- Cats win, TCU win, no playoff: it's roughly a top 10-15 win.
- Cats win, TCU loses, no playoff: it's a top 5-10 win.
- Cats win, TCU loses, playoff: best win ever.
-
TCU doesn't have to lose to make it Top 5 for me. I mean, beating a Top 10 team on the road in the last game of the season with a share of the conference title on the line is really big. JMHO.

this is a FANtastic point. and i'll agree with you.
-
The odds of Kstate beating Baylor and TCU losing to Iowa rough ridin' state are literally 0% you dumbasses. I mean good grief.

This is incorrect.
(.37)(.02)= .0074
The odds are 'virtually' 0%, but not 'literally'.
:buh-bye:

so that's a "yes", then?
-
This would be somewhere between 3-4 no matter what. If we somehow backed in (not going to happen) and won a game, that game we won would be his best.
-

I don't think you know what the definition of literally means. Not surprising.

That win would likely be beating Alabama in the Sugar or Oregon in the Rose so yeah

No. Winning Saturday is not his biggest win. You're unable to read good.
-
Rhoads just needs to tell his guys that they are playing Iowa again for all the marbles. TCU loses, we win, party, Cats, National Champs.

yes, yellow tinted visors for all clones and we are golden

actually no, in 98 we would have been in the MNC game. Now, we would just have a shot at being in the playoffs with a (long)shot at going to the NC game.

Also, sorry to get all existential but what is everyone's criteria to define "best"? Seems to me there are 4 primary things:
1) Just looking at the game itself in a vacuum, did the cats have any business winning that game? Were we outgunned/outclassed/outmatched but compensated by outscheming/out5hearting?
2) Was the game itself actually interesting? With the exception of the 35-7 curbstomping of OU in 03, I feel like if the outcome was never really in doubt, or the cats were never really challenged at any point during the game, its hard to call that a "best" win although I would imagine if the cats had an absolute blowout victory in the natty then that would definitely qualify as an exception.
3) What outside influences, if any, where at play? Things like a hostile road environment, or playing against a team you'd lost to the previous 29 times would be examples of outside influences.
4) What is at stake? Obviously every game matters and few teams have the luxury of being able to crap the bed without much fallout but that cats are not one of those teams. I think it's fair to say, too, that no matter who the opponent is, the pressure is ratcheted up as the season goes on. Had we played Baylor in september the most that could be said at the time was "possible CFP implications" but this late in the season the stakes are much more clearly defined.
How much stock goes into each of those 4...i'm not really sure.
-

i wasn't referring to 98. 03 OU and 14 Baylor have the same thing on the line (with more on the line in 14 if other things happen)
-
Can I just lump the entire 2011 football season together and consider it just one game? Honestly, I feel that the Cats had no business winning that many games that year, but they did. I mean, we beat RGIII and that was one heck of an A&M game. Not only that, but we sent Mizzou out with a loss also.
-
This is only the second time in history where we still have a national championship on the last weekend of the season.
-
I can think of probably 10 games that would be better.
please list 10 Snyder wins that are better than the opportunity presented by this weekend's game at baylor
I can't LOL. Consider yourself #trolled.
-
If we win it will be the most I've ever expected us not to win and then we went and won. So, however that applies to your question.
-
Nothing short of a win over a great team to send us to the playoff is bigger than '03. '03 is so far ahead of any other big win we've had, and it would be far ahead of winning this weekend.
-

You know what Bill would say?
"Every game we win is the best win. Anytime I can teach these youngsters about hard work, perseverance, and that winning in life is possible is a great day."

That doesn't sound like Bill even a tiny bit

ok so it sounds like a consensus is the 03 OU game. i still think most of you are undervaluing how big of a win it would be this saturday

Anywhere from 3rd best to 5th best, probably.

"Biggest" is not the same as "best"

03 OU is snyder's biggest and best win. imo 14 baylor would be snyder's biggest and best win
-

disagree UNLESS we get the CFP
03 OU > 14 BU
Sole Dr p better than a shared
-
as it stands, it could be a top 5 win.
- tcu loses the early game, it could be top 3
- tcu loses, and get lots of help to move into the cfp, best win of snyd's career.
-
Both this and the 03 game were on December 6

yeah was going to say the same thing, it was probably 60/40 OU to KSU, maybe worse
-
Both these games will have KSU wearing silver trousers and white jerseys with a silver helmet and a purple powercat.
-
The 03 game kicked off at 7:00 PM Central, this one is kicking off at 6:45 central, only 15 minutes difference so let's just say its the same.

03 Dr. Pepper was at Arrowhead stadium, the announcers were Brent Musberger and Gary Danielson. Danielson went to purdue, so did Len Dawson. Len Dawson won a Super Bowl as a Chiefs QB and now announces games with Mitch who used to announce for KSU. Tomorrow's announcing team includes Todd Blackledge who was also drafted by the Chiefs.
