We are going to take Baylor apart piece by piece.
-
Have we heard if Green has any shot at coming back this year? I mean, I like our chances more with him in than I do with him out.
-
Is it crazy to think that TCU will drop the game against UT and that KSU has a chance to actually beat Baylor and win the ENTIRE BigXII? Like, not a piece of the BigXII, but the whole damn thing?
Would it then be crazy to expect KSU in the playoffs after winning the BigXII?
Also, is it a pipe dream that Collin Klein does a Tebow prayer on the 50 yard line after KSU beats Baylor? Just saying, that would be awesome.

In order of likeliness (IHMO) from MOST to LEAST
KSU beats Baylor
TCU loses to Texas
IMPOSSIBLE
KSU in playoffs

I'm inKleined to believe you on the latter. I really don't know what to expect from the playoff committee after all is said and done in conference play. The Committee said they would heavily favor conference champions and conference champions would get top priority in the playoffs. Why, then, are they releasing rankings before all is said and done?
Am I to believe, that if USC or UCLA were to beat Oregon in the Pac12 championship, USC/UCLA would get a bid in the playoffs? Am I to believe that if Missouri were somehow to manage an SEC championship, they would be invited in the playoffs? Am I to believe that if Georgia Tech were to knock off FSU in the ACC championship, the YellowJackets would be in the playoffs?
The way things are playing out... I have a feeling the playoffs are going to be all SEC-SEC-SEC, regardless on who wins the championships.
Sorry if this post belongs in another thread.
-
i'm struggling to imagine a (reasonable) scenario that doesn't have 2 SEC teams in the playoff. The way auburn has looked lately, the chances of bama losing to them at home, or to the sec east champion just seems very unlikely. if Ole Miss beats MSU they likely just trade places.
-
Ole Miss has 2 losses. If the committee takes a 2 loss 2nd place SEC west team over a 1 loss Big 12 champ, then we may as well just give up. Maybe the Big 12, Big 10, Pac 12 and ACC should just break away, don't play the SEC in anything, and at the end of the season the champs of our 4 leagues play in a playoff. SEC can call their conference champ the national champ if they want, don't care.
-
Banking on a three way split?
So. . .Baylor loses to OSU, TCU loses to UT, and we lose to Baylor?
-
I don't disagree I'm just saying look at the committee's top 10. I wouldn't say the committee has exactly been harsh on the SEC. Hell, look at Auburn. You think if k state lost at home to OSU (arguably as dogcrap as tamu) and then went to TCU (arguably much better than georgia) and got piss pounded that the cats would still be in the top 25? let alone the top 15. I think the same applies to any team from any of the other non-sec power 5 conferences.
-
Banking on a three way split?
So. . .Baylor loses to OSU, TCU loses to UT, and we lose to Baylor?
For it to be a split, we'd have to lose to KU, TCU lose to Texas and us beat Baylor. Three was split, automatic berth going to probably TCU (highest in polls)

It's the Sugar Bowl, so this year we don't have one.

you guys TCU and Baylor will split the 'ship and finish 5/6 in the playoff poll and people will get so upset.

Hardly anyone outside of the big 12 region will care. Honestly, if Oregon, Miss st, bama, and fsu win out I would have no problem with them getting in over TCU. We're tcu's best win.
-
80% chance K-State gets in the playoff is we win the conference outright. There is likely going to be a two-loss team in the playoff. And a two-loss conference champion from the Big 12 or Pac 12 will get in over a two-loss SEC non-champion.
This happens every year. People expect that every highly-ranked team will win out. Have you seen the individual odds for each team winning out?
Did you know that LSU was SEVENTH in the BCS heading into the last weekend in 2007? See also Florida State 1998.

Why would you even want in the playoff at this point? It would be humiliating.

Count me as jaded, but seeing our team perform the last couple of games makes me worried that any bowl we get into will turn out a lot like the cotton bowl vs Pig Aggie or the Fiesta vs Nike Aggie.

If we played a top 3 team (alabama or Oregon or FSU or whatever) we'd probably lose by 4 TDs. Even then I'd still want to be in the playoff even if we sucked it up. Of course I'd want a chance sheesh.

We haven't played great, but have you seen FSU? I would be pretty surprised if they could beat us. I don't see how K-State drops a game with FSU's schedule.

80% chance IF we win the conference outright. 82%, probably
-
Steffy, we have no chance of winning the conference outright and even if we did there is a 0% chance we would be in the playoff which is a good thing bc we would completely embarrass ourselves and it would be humiliating anytime I have to tell someone where I went to college for the rest of my life.

I will say the elite bowl destinations for this year's playoff would make any matchup the best cat bowl trip ever

I will admit that winning conference outright seems like a long shot. But then I remember it all depends on two games (assuming we beat ku). Ut is playing well. And then maybe Snyder coaches the game of his life in waco. Crazier things have happened.
-
We could win the conference and there is still no shot at making the playoff. I'm sorry, but do you really think we are one of the top-4 teams in the nation? Neither does the playoff committee. I would love to make the playoff, but I don't want to suffer losing by 20+ against FSU, Bama, or Oregon.

I hope you guys aren't being serious about not wanting to go to the playoffs because we'd get our asses kicked.
"Okay guys, we've made the Elite Eight. Ready to kick Syracuse's ass!?!?"
"No thanks coach. Kentucky already won their game and they're going to embarrass us in the Final Four."
"Good point. Well, should we forfeit or go out and just not play well?"
"Let's forfeit. Too scared of the Final 4 to take any chances."
"Alright guys. Hell of a season. Can't wait for next year!"
-

Holy crap Baylor has a ton of false starts.

The obvious worst case scenario will be K-State losing last 2 games:
If UT beats TCU there would be a 3-way tie for 3rd with OU and UT ;
If TCU loses to UT, the Wildcats finish undisputed 3rd;
TCU beats UT there will be a 3-way tie for 2nd with OU and UT.
The more realistic scenarios would be:
BU wins, TCU loses (K-State ties for 2nd);
BU and TCU win (undisputed 2nd);
K-State wins, TCU wins (tie for 1st);
K-State wins, TCU loses (undisputed champs)
Crazier things have happened, but this starts with K-State not overlooking next week’s game.
-
Playoff scenarios
SEC Champ - At least one of Georgia/Mississippi St/Bama are in ahead of us
Florida St - Would have to lose out, which won't happen, so they are in
What would have to happen for K-State to even have a chance:
K-State wins out
TCU loses to Texas
Ohio St loses in Champ game (likely Wisconsin)
UCLA loses to Stanford
Whatever SEC team wins the conference wins out (Bama as the example)
Mississippi St loses to Ole Miss
Georgia loses to Bama in Champ game
Pac 12 South winner beats Oregon
Even with all of that happening K-State would be competing with Oregon, Pac 12 South winner, TCU, Mississippi St, Wisconsin, Ohio St and Michigan St for 2 spots. At that point, the committee will have to choose between a crap show of going with conference champions or head to heads. If all but one of the list above happens, there is likely one spot K-State will have a shot at. Although we would be conference champs, I don't think K-State will win a CFB beauty contest with those teams.

I can't stand how rough ridin' stupid all of you idiots are. Here's what is going to happen (I've saved everyone the trouble of running a bunch of scenarios that aren't going to happen).
Alabama, Ohio state and Oregon are going to win out. They are in.
Florida State is going to lose to Florida. They're out, the committee knows they suck.
Kstate is going to win out tcu is going to lose. Kstate is in. [Really Baylor will win out and get in]
Neither Mississippi team, nor the winner of the downs syndrome sec east, is winning out, they are out.
Your welcome.

OSU pulled a Freshman QB's redshirt for the game. After Baylor scored on their second play, I half expected them to say eff it and stick with Garman.

There are so many scenarios other than the one you outlined which would get us in the playoff. But, it is only possible if we are sole Big 12 champs. So, there are only three "must win" games. Us v. KU; Us v. BU; and UT v. TCU.
If those three things occur (a big IF, mind you), it is probable that we make the playoffs.
Go Beavers, go Cardinal, go Gators, go Wolverines, go Rebels, go Tigers (Auburn), and HOOK 'EM!

It is unlikely that the favorites all win out. It would be extremely odd if that happened. The odds say that 2 or 3 of the top 6 will lose this weekend. It is probably just as likely that four of the top 6 lose this weekend as all six of the top ranked teams win this weekend. And that is just this weekend.
I was discouraged to see Arizona, UCLA, and ASU so high. It seems as if the Pac winner would probably be ahead of us (assuming we are sole conference champions). And, even if MU wins the SEC, I still think the SEC will get one spot in the playoffs. That leaves two spots open, though. Assuming Bama and/or Miss. St loses this week, I don't think the SEC is getting two. A one loss Florida State team would be interesting; it would help us if that one loss was in the ACC championship. (Two losses by FSU would be better.) Ohio State, assuming they beat MU, will hardly be favored (if at all) over Wiscy (assuming Wiscy beats Minnesota). Really awesome for the Big 12 would be if Minnesota won the Big 10. Crazier things have happened.
By this time next week, I still think that everybody will be talking about the winner of the BU/KSU game as getting a spot in the playoffs (assuming TCU loses). I predict substantial carnage this weekend.
-
I think Georgia is going to lose to G Tech.

After reading this thread, pretty convinced we're going to the playoff. Feels good.

the opportunity exists for mass chaos in CFB this week and next. it'll be fun to watch either way.

No odds say 2 or 3 of the top 6 will lose this weekend.

TCU is in the playoff.....so...that puts us in the Cotton Bowl if we beat Baylor, right?
NO way the Cotton wants Baylor there. Terrible fanbase...terrible people...terrible colors... Just everything. ....
If we lose to Baylor (big if)... Kstate falls to the Alamo. Big XII Bowls are awful.

Sadly, even their backup can sling it around, so it doesn't really matter. Petty is a bigger guy, slightly....but otherwise its incredible that there isn't much dropoff. Briles HAS TO BE cheating. Where is he collecting all these guys?

Their back up only led them to a field goal against sand aggie. Walk-on Aggie would definitely win against his back up. You have a slim chance against Petty.

Bryce Petty says he "feels great. ... Happy to be alive, to be breathing." Briles said he expects him to play despite concussion.
I had no idea he came so close, those coaches at Baylor are monsters for forcing him into this game.

Not too soon. It could have been worded better though. Concussions don't seem to be taken as seriously in NCAA as they are in the NFL because there is not a player's union. Briles will do whatever he can to make sure Petsketti Brains sees the field in order to win a second straight conference title.
