The only thing good about Washburn are the Ichadogs.  And that's not a joke or anything, they are absolutely delicious.  Not a normal hot dog at all.  If you ever make it to Lee Arena for a game make sure and try one.

NOW LET'S CRUSH THESE GUYS!

Also, the "make noise" strobe on the new scoreboard just made me epileptic.

Random thoughts:

1. Marcus Foster is still our leader and best player, not that there was much doubt about that.
2. Hurt will be great. He needs to get better conditioned though.
3. Edwards was our second leading scorer. Can't wait to see him at the 2 or 3 to see what he's really capable of. Him and Foster seem to have a pretty great chemistry.
4. I wish we could combine Jevon's vision and passing with Nigel's shooting to be one really good PG. But alas, we can not.
5. Tre Harris was our second sub, so the staff must think he's a better player than me or anyone else on here thinks. Didn't seem great, but was better than I thought.
6. Gip looked like Gip.
7. Jury still out on Bolden. He is skinnier than I thought.

1. Nino, Wes, Malek, and DJamer (obviously) didnt play. Really think we could have used Wes.
2. Agreed, Hurt will be a stud. He obviously has the midrange game (knocked down two 18-footers) and is HUGE. Easily 3 inches taller than Gip. Some nice boards and a block or two. Really needs to stay out of foul trouble but could be a legit center for the qhatz (finally). Also was silky smooth on free throws, could easily hit 80% or higher.
3. Nigel and Jevon are terrible. Jevon still amazes me with how high he jumps.
4. As mentioned above, Foster and Edwards have great chemistry. Foster threw him a few oops and good passes down low.
5. Foster is a baller.
6. Edwards may have had the most minutes played. Had a few really nice plays, kind of disappeared at times. I think he is getting used to the game but could actually be our best player overall, especially when Foster gets cold. Can get to the rim and fly, also showed a pretty nice J.

Harris was not impressive.   Hurt is huge and needs to lose like 30lbs.  His shot looks great, though.

Nigels shot is slow AF.  Javon looked really good doing everything except shooting.

Pretty sure we were out boarded by washburn.  So, there's that.

Hurts appears to do a good job taking up space, believe he can be a solid defensive rebounder for us. Bolden defensive rebound effort angers me. The one concern for me is guarding the post, but in this age of basketball that aren't a lot of effective pivot players. Our guards are going to be really really good. Really liked Tre Harris is better than I expected him. I think it a really good sign for the staff, they need to hit their evaluations and they have.

He had one or two that made me think he might have improved this off-season,  then he missed a couple threes by like two feet to one side or the other.

That all said, I do thim k we have some legitimate parts and pieces.  My above is probably being nit picky.  I think we could be really good as we envelope the new guys into play.

i liked what i saw from hurt and i think he is going to be a nice addition to the rotation, but one thing i did notice is he blocks out well but he never jumps to go get the ball, did anyone else notice this?  you would think he would finish the rebounding play after sealing off his guy
Title: Re: Washburn
Post by: CyberToothCat on November 09, 2014, 06:40:50 PM
1) WAY, WAY, WAY too many shots taken by our PGs. They need to set up and run the offense, drive and dish, etc. Chucking up stupid threes all day is going to get us beat a lot.

2) Wow, Jevon is athletic. There were at least a couple of times that he was up in the air battling for a rebound and he was higher than all the bigs on the floor. He was tenacious, fast, with quick hands.

3) Foster is our best player. As goes Marcus, so goes the team.

4) Edwards looked timid at times, which I guess is to be expected after not playing for a year and being forced to play a different position due to injuries. Still, he showed some flashes that got me geeked. Once he gets back to his natural position and gets into the flow, I think he'll look a lot better.

5) Hurt: slow, not in particularly good shape. Seemed like he was tired after one or two trips down the floor. He did show some nice range, knocking down some jump shots. I'm not sure why he has the green light from 3-pt range, though. Needs to stop with the stupid fouls.

6) Bolden is skinny as a beanpole. He's going to get abused in conference play. According to the roster, Bolden is 6-11, 215. He's probably more like 6-10, 200. I don't expect anything from him this year until he can add some bulk.

7) Gip did some nice things, but he seemed to be the focus of Washburns defense. Anytime he touched the ball everyone crashed down on him. We will definitely need him to contribute more than 9 points, 3 boards (if my memory is correct).

8) Tre Harris... He was just kind of there. He had a couple of nice looking jumpers. He got beat down the court by a white guy and got subsequently chewed by oscar. He needs time to develop so I doubt we see him much when the games matter.

9) Nigel: I don't know what to say. He still looks pretty when he shoots, but the ball just doesn't seem to go in very much. Not as athletic as Jevon and not as aggressive, doesn't seem willing or able to drive and dish. If forced to pick based on the exhibition, I start and Jevon and bring Nigel in for breathers.

He should be an energy guy. He's not big enough or skilled enough to get a ton of m8nutes, so he needs to be active when he's in. He was just sort of staring around half the time he was in.

Yep. Also I don't think Bolden's issue is effort, I think he just gets easily knocked around, I think it may be tougn for him to ever be what people want him to be. Bolden's ceiling may be Adrian Diaz. I wish Bolden and Hurt switched bodies.

My biggest concern with Bolden is defensive rebounding. I was also disappointed on him giving up leverage in certain situation by playing to upright. But if he doesn't get abused on the defensive boards I believe he will be an effective player.

It's shocking to me that people think Tre Harris looked better than they thought he would. Every guard on Washburn's team was more athletic than he is, which is truly terrifying. He can shoot it a little bit, but he's just too rough ridin' slow. Tre is another prime Brucing candidate.

I think that is a little heavy handed.  He is super young right now and we were playing very out of sync.  Once things smooth out, and once he gets some game speed experience, he may be fine.

My last post was probably over the top. I was just a little confused as to why people were so pleasantly surprised with his play. He looked slow in his high school film, and I didn't see anything yesterday to make me think differently. Looked like a natural shooter though, and his bball IQ was impressive for a freshman. I hope he does very well at K-State, but I'm worried that his defense will prevent that from happening.

He looked slow in his high school film, and I didn't see anything yesterday to make me think differently. Looked like a natural shooter though, and his bball IQ was impressive for a freshman. I hope he does very well at K-State, but I'm worried that his defense will prevent that from happening.

I got a real close look at him and the rest of the guys yesterday.

We are fine fellas.

I didn't know where to post this, so if it's wrong please remove or move to appropriate thread.....

VideoLan has upgraded VLC to Version 2.1.5. Previous versions should still work, but it's usually good to upgrade this app.
*NOTE: When installing, select > delete preferences and cache.

You will need VLC media player (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/#download) to view the streams on PC/MAC/other OS.
Click Here (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.html) for windows x64bit systems. Previous versions (http://download.videolan.org/pub/videolan/vlc).
ALT player for PCs >> >> >> >> >> MPC-HC (http://mpc-hc.org/downloads/)

You will also need to make an adjustment to VLC. ------ VERY IMPORTANT!!
1st, Open VLC > Go to Tools > Preferences
Select the radio button "Show Settings" -- "All" (near the bottom)
Select input/codecs.
Scroll down to advanced, and change the value for Network Caching to 5000
All your wildest dreams will come true, if it's the case that you also recorded this stream and posted it to youtube somewhere....

Even if you have a big hairy howitzer in your pants, you better learn how to use it and have ammo.  Weber has some teaching to do before Long Beach State and Maui.   It seemed they were not taking their business seriously.  Hope to  see improvement on this front.

The amount of insight that can come from an exhibition basketball game is pretty amazing.

Of course; things will change a lot in the next month. Its still fun (and fine) to BBS about. :dunno:

Meh.
