I resemble this remark

My head tells me the Chiefs have the best chance at it and I don't find much solace in that

chings- can you run some numbers on this?

I am basing it on the fact the Chiefs are the only one of the four on a league with a salary cap and one of two with a draft

I hope its one of KSUFB/KSUBB/Royals if we only get one.

Though if it's a stupid chief super bowl it doesn't count because I don't care at all about that. Cats and royals.

you guys say that but i bet we'd all rally around the chiefs if they made a super bowl kind of like we cared about cats baseball that one year. i mean you take what you can get, you know?
Title: Re: sports championship question
Post by: steve dave on November 08, 2014, 02:12:27 PM
I wouldn't. When they have ever been in the playoffs I haven't even watched the games. I legitimately don't care at all about the NFL or the KC soccer team.
Title: Re: sports championship question
Post by: steve dave on November 08, 2014, 02:13:57 PM
I probably care more about the NBA and I only watch playoff NBA and I don't even have a favorite team.

World Cup soccer is above the Chiefs by a billion miles too and I don't even know the rules of soccer. And Olympics. And Golf.

i don't care much about the chiefs either but you can bet your ass that i would be watching the superbowl and cheering pretty hard for them if they ever made it. it's easily our best shot.

Me too, bubbs. I think we've talked about this before.

If K-State wins a natty in either important sport I'm going on a month long bender.

I disagree. In the past 20 years, Chiefs have never been close. KSU FB was close in 98/12, KSU BB was close in '10 (probably would've lost to Mich st or Duke tho), and the Royals just had the winning run for the World Series at the plate, tying run on 3rd, bottom of the 9th.

I'd say based on recent history, Chiefs are our worst shot.

moving forward, if you put the cats and the royals on one side and the chiefs on the other. i'd probably pick the chiefs to win one before the other three. starting to get sick to my stomach thinking about how i'll never see cats or royals win one.

Honestly I've always felt like there's a zero chance but I don't know why I'm so losery about that. I'm pretty winnery in most other things.

you anti chiefites are going to feel pretty ridiculous if the chiefs win one and everybody is partying balls and having the times of their lives and you're doing your taxes or something.

I'll be happy for you guys. I'm not against them winning it. I just don't care even a little bit.

I wouldn't enjoy a team winning it if I didn't care about them before they won it.  I'd just be lying to everybody.  Like I really don't care about football and the two times Illinois was okay and made BCS bowls I really didn't give a crap.  Everybody else was losing their minds for the most part.  I didn't even watch either game.  I only really care about Illinois basketball.  All of my eggs are in that one basket.

I suppose if Illinois suddenly got like Alabama good at football I'd have a hard time not paying attention.  Still it would only be bandwagon good times.  I wouldn't be pissed when they lost.  I'd just stop paying attention again.

I'm not sure we'll see it. Most likely Royals, then Chiefs, then Cat FB, then BB. Like my friend sd, I don't care much about the NFL. But like my friend rick, is be happy/excited with a Chiefs Super Bowl.

I was once a huge Cowboys fan. Huge. In the late 80s and 90s. But I don't really count that now.

if alex gordon 90 ft away is as close as we'll ever get (entirely likely), i'm okay with it. it was a beautiful improbable real life fairytale.

that being said:

what i want the most:

1. royals/ cats fb (while LHCBS is still coaching)
2. cats bb
3. chiefs

what is most likely:

1. chiefs
2. royals
3. cats fb
4. cats bb

Why does everyone keep saying Chiefs is most likely when the other 3 have all been closer in the last 5 years?

you know why. winning in the nfl is "easier." the entire system is set up to insure that everyone has an equal shot more or less.. it's a simpler formula with fewer variables. it's difficult if you don't have an elite qb or historically good defense. get one of those two things and you should win at least one.

I don't think its any easier than baseball. At least not anymore. I mean, maybe objectively winning in the NFL is easier than winning in the MLB, but this is the Chiefs we're talking about. The Royals are much more likely than the Chiefs. I guess your average NFL team is more likely than KSUFB/BB/Royals, but not the Chiefs.

I think ksu hoops has a better chance than you think.  Anything can happen in the tournament.

Just imagine this year, let's say the cats pull a 4 or 5 seed.  Maybe our bracket completely falls apart and we get a relatively easy run to the final 4.  Then all you need is 2 wins.  Maybe Marcus goes crazy for two games.  I think it's easier to get hot in hoops at the right time and make a deep run.

Also, it's easier to make the tourney in hoops; so at least there is a chance at the title.

(and i understand we haven't been to the final four since 64)

Other semi-related thoughts....

While I certainly want and would love to have a national championship, I can easily enjoy Cat sports without one.  As long as the Cats are making the postseason that is good enough for me. Because if they are consistently making the postseason then I can allow myself to hope and dream that they'll win it all.  And it's fun to picture Marcus Foster or a Collin Klein lifting up that trophy.

However, I would not be happy if like KU or ISU fans "we have to wait till basketball season" or vice versa.  I've seen some of the posts on the phog where they moan about not being able to enjoy their saturdays because of their football team.  That would make me really sad.

Pretty dumb to think that the team who hasn't won a playoff game in over 20 years is most likely to win a championship out of that group.  :dunno:
