I think it's absolutely clear what any REAL MHK resident would agree is the best grocery store, but let's see if the huddled masses agree.
non mhkers are of course welcome to vote, but I ask that you please do so from an MHK frame of reference. I dont want you guys mucking this all up with your price choppers and albertsons and meijers and markets basket and what the eff else bullshit hullabaloo grocers.
:katpak:

It's hyvee. Westloop Dillion's is a distant second.

wow, a rare shockingly awful opinion from old dlew
-
I always shopped exclusively at the Westloop Dillon's when I lived in MHK.
-
One time I went to Aldis for a few things (like 20) and I didn't realize that they didn't have sacks so I just had to throw everything into the seat of my car and it rolled all around and fell onto the floor and stuff during the drive home and then when I got home it took like 10 trips to get everything in just basically one thing in each hand every time so needless to say I did not vote for Aldis.
-
I ASK YOU:
which of these has a nice person bag your groceries AND carry them to your car for you?
which of these doesnt have old chinese food that made me sick one time?
which of these is organized in a sensible fashion?
which of these is not from iowa?
which of these doesnt force you to sign up for an NSA surveillance plus card just to get a reasonable price?
which of these had 1.99 bacon (irregular slices) for sale a few weeks ago WITH NO LIMIT?
its really no contest
-
I can tell you what it's not, it's not goddamn County Market on Kirby which can't be bothered to carry any individual baked goods.
-
The year was 2000. I went to Aldi's for the first time ever. They tell me I need to pay $.25 for a shopping cart. I said ok. I remember buying a lot of box dinners, hamburger helper type stuff. anyways, I go to pay and the bagger was clipping his toenails on the conveyor belt thingy. I wasn't even offended, i just laughed at the balls it would take to do something like that. I've never been to another Aldi's but it gets my vote.

Puni is talking about Ray's, and I can't even see the poll options because of bullshit Tapatalk.
-
The problem with Ray's is that it smells like balls 24 -7.
-
Clean ball(s) or dirty ball(s)?
-
Dillion's is always going to win because my grandma lets me use her gas discount.
-
Clean ball(s) or dirty ball(s)?
Well, they're not clean I can tell you that. Clean I could handle, I mean it would be mildly disturbing, but at least I knew someone cared for them.
-

0% true. THERE IS A NEW RAYS MAYBE YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT OLD RAYS
old rays did smell like balls. there was always a freezer cart of rotting seafood to greet you at the door
-
Could be puni could be. I am thinking about the one that used to be Food 4 Less, by the post office.

yeah that place was gross and has since been destroyed. It also got robbed right before it shut down.
-
That explains it. New Ray's never smelled like balls to me. Rarely went to old Ray's

don't forget there was and old westside rays too. THIS POLL IS SPECIFICALLY ONLY IN REGARDS TO CURRENT A+ LUXURY NEW WESTSIDE RAYS.
-
I always shopped exclusively at the Westloop Dillon's when I lived in MHK.
-
you old westloopers probably dont even know that there is a new westloop dillons
-
During snowpocalypse 2012. A+ BRAND NEW LUXURY WESTSIDE Ray's was the only grocery store in town with milk.

Did they raise their milk prices to take advantage of the situation?

Nope. They're stand-up people.
-
westside rays is best. you can always park right in front, the aisles are bramlage in width and there's like never anyone there so you pretty much just have the whole store to yourself. overall great shopping experience.
-
Went to the rays across from ok joes once and it was very terrible, never been to a rays since
-

what if i told you they had the best chicken strips of all the grocers?
-
That's not saying much
-
rays pro tip- if there is a lot people in line to check out (lol), you can you go to the customer service counter and they will be happy to check you out.
-
Some of you probably saw a young Brock Landers working at the Eastside Dillon's while I was working my way through KSU
-
rays pro tip- if there is a lot people in line to check out (lol), you can you go to the customer service counter and they will be happy to check you out.
also if there are ever more than 2 people in line they immediately open another register to crank you out
-
It's westloop dillons, and there isn't a close second. The thursday night routine was ALWAYS Dillons -> Nespors -> Dinner -> Bars.
-
puni and daris are two of this blog's most close minded
-
the layout of (new) west dillons is just unbelievably bad. like they hired a funhouse clown to eff it up on purpose.
-
i always shop at hyvee
-
When did Manhattan get a Hy Vee? Is it brand new? I had no idea there was a Hy Vee in Manhattan KS.
-
been around for a while, maybe this means you should support KSU more and visit more often :dunno:
-
I support KSU. Go to several games every year and also Fatty Fest. I just don't grocery shop while I visit.
-
aldi's is owned by the same reclusive weirdo german billionaire brothers that own trader joe's, which is why they are the best.
-
aldis is on hwy 24. it can't be the best.
-
And it's disgusting. And you have to bring your own bags.
-
And it's disgusting. And you have to bring your own bags.
well of course it is and of course you do. the god damn thing is in st george for christ sakes.
-
Aldi rules FYI. Its like a billion times cheaper.
-
I really don't know how aldis makes food that is already cheap and terrible even more cheap. I think they take the actual food and mix it with 50% cardboard
-
a billion times cheaper is a lot
-
Doesn't aldi also not take credit cards? How can that be a thing in this century??
-
it's because aldi's hates america.
-
NO FEAR: HyVee
(Ray's has an amazing chicken strips/potato wedge combo tho)
-
My friends uncle is the hyvee cfo so I support them (also cause best in town)
-
I voted west side Rays. I also rarely grocery shop in MHK anymore except for tailgate, but I always try to spend at least ten dollars so I can get a stamp thing and then my mom can get a free washcloth or whatever prize they are giving away.
-
rays pro tip- if there is a lot people in line to check out (lol), you can you go to the customer service counter and they will be happy to check you out.
Can I now change my vote from Dillon's to Ray's?

maybe. mods?
-
I'm eastside dillons. Ghetto Rays/ food 4 less was a staple of mine in years gone by.
-
East side Dillon's. But it was hard for me to vote because if I lived in the west part or even the central part of Manhattan it would be Ray's and it wouldn't even be close.
-
I shop almost exclusively at West Dillon's because of proximity and the gas discount. Also the self checkout line is a major bonus.
The only thing that HyVee brings to the table is its admittedly superior butcher shop. I can count on one hand the number of times I've bought anything at any of the Ray's because :Yuck:
Also, @CF3, the Manhattan HyVee opened like a billion years ago...2008ish.
-
I'm gonna go with Dillons on this one. I had some friends who worked there and they would weigh my salads as a banana price weight. 2lb salads for like $1.
-
Only thing about hyvee that sucks is the deli meat is low quality. I have to go to dillons to get it
-
Anyone that bitches about the Westloop Dillons aisle setup has never been to HyVee. :curse:
-
The Manhattan HyVee is set up backwards from every other HyVee I've been in :Wha:
-
i was always a westloop dillons guy when i was in school unless i wanted chinese food. hyvee's chinese food is 100x better than westloop dillons chinese food. thats about all they have on WD.

Dude, chinaman is not the preferred nomenclature. asian american please.
-
not really sure a chinaman would prefer to be labeled "asian" but hey we're all just cattle on the car so let's get out there and cheer on the cats, go cats.
-

so what you are saying here that ray's is the better grocer but you go to east dillons due to proximity

well just an update for all the listeners out there- the chinaman food was delayed until today but turned out pretty good
how great would their chinaman food be if they made the chow mein without the vegetables in it. not a question.
-
Mhk needs a stand alone panda xpress

I have a Q-Card coupon that I can reuse throughout the year and a $2.99 chinese food meal from hyvee is one of them.

The price chopper on roe is the best grocery store I've ever been in, so you should go there instead (tho hen house has a bomb ass deli meat selection)
-
looks like we can count cat AD John Currie down as a rays goer.
