Title: Friday's SMAKOFF non snak edition: MHK GROCERY STORE GRINDOUT
Post by: puniraptor on November 07, 2014, 01:41:39 PM
I think it's absolutely clear what any REAL MHK resident would agree is the best grocery store, but let's see if the huddled masses agree.

non mhkers are of course welcome to vote, but I ask that you please do so from an MHK frame of reference. I dont want you guys mucking this all up with your price choppers and albertsons and meijers and markets basket and what the eff else bullshit hullabaloo grocers.

One time I went to Aldis for a few things (like 20) and I didn't realize that they didn't have sacks so I just had to throw everything into the seat of my car and it rolled all around and fell onto the floor and stuff during the drive home and then when I got home it took like 10 trips to get everything in just  basically one thing in each hand every time so needless to say I did not vote for Aldis.

I ASK YOU:

which of these has a nice person bag your groceries AND carry them to your car for you?
which of these doesnt have old chinese food that made me sick one time?
which of these is organized in a sensible fashion?
which of these is not from iowa?
which of these doesnt force you to sign up for an NSA surveillance plus card just to get a reasonable price?
which of these had 1.99 bacon (irregular slices) for sale a few weeks ago WITH NO LIMIT?

its really no contest

I can tell you what it's not, it's not goddamn County Market on Kirby which can't be bothered to carry any individual baked goods.

The year was 2000. I went to Aldi's for the first time ever. They tell me I need to pay $.25 for a shopping cart. I said ok. I remember buying a lot of box dinners, hamburger helper type stuff. anyways, I go to pay and the bagger was clipping his toenails on the conveyor belt thingy. I wasn't even offended, i just laughed at the balls it would take to do something like that. I've never been to another Aldi's but it gets my vote.

westside rays is best. you can always park right in front, the aisles are bramlage in width and there's like never anyone there so you pretty much just have the whole store to yourself. overall great shopping experience.

I shop almost exclusively at West Dillon's because of proximity and the gas discount. Also the self checkout line is a major bonus.

The only thing that HyVee brings to the table is its admittedly superior butcher shop. I can count on one hand the number of times I've bought anything at any of the Ray's because  :Yuck:

Also, @CF3, the Manhattan HyVee opened like a billion years ago...2008ish.

how great would their chinaman food be if they made the chow mein without the vegetables in it.  not a question.
