so a question of etiquette... i'm going to be out of town tomorrow for work and won't have any chance at all to have an in person talk with my boss.  should i call (or email?) him tomorrow to give my notice as a courtesy and have a face to face convo later, or wait until after a meeting we will both be at first thing friday?  it should be noted that me leaving will have a considerable effect on the purpose of the meeting (look ahead scheduling) which could result in some wasted time if they find out after.

i don't really have a frame of reference bc i work at a very small company but 50,000 seems incredibly large. how many companies in the US have 50,000 or more employees? like, less than 10? i mean i could be way off here, i just have no idea.

The entire head of this 50,000 employee company I work for recently sent out an email that declared meetings should not start before 9 and must end by 5. Time zones may cause some exceptions.

Gonna win 'em all!

i don't really have a frame of reference bc i work at a very small company but 50,000 seems incredibly large. how many companies in the US have 50,000 or more employees? like, less than 10? i mean i could be way off here, i just have no idea.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_largest_employers_in_the_United_States (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_largest_employers_in_the_United_States)

the top 50 gets you down to 150k

It's a global company.

Historically, a lot of meetings started at 8. Would occasionally have a meeting until 5:30 or 6:00.

my new post grad employer (starting in june) is def over 50K employees... many different divisions tho. they have alot of employees out of germany which requires a 2 month summer vacation, so theres not much that gets done in the us at that time. and what does get done is usually by intern studs.

grats to other recent job acquirers luke tbt and lib7!

The only thing worse than a 8am meeting is a 1pm meeting. My typical lunch hour starts at 12:30 so when some a-hole calls for a meeting at 1 it throws my whole day off.  :curse:

I usually eat at noon and then I have appt's at 1pm and it's tough. I'm like a snake after I eat. I have to move around to get it all down. I do this weird head nod thing and belch a lot while I'm talking during the meeting. It's a mess.  :curse:

8-4 is my ideal.  Would love that
Do jobs like this actually exist outside of government?

I generally work 7:30-4 with a half hour lunch, although sometimes I decide to take a longer lunch or get here later (due to all the K-96/I-135/I-235 traffic) or whatever and stay a little later.

at my job you're free to start a meeting before 9 but no one will show up
Man, 80% of my meetings start before 8:30am and I work for the government (rarely anyone misses). What say you renocat?

This may be more suited for Fanning'S Job A vs Job B thread, but what's the max pay cut you would take to move to a job that you loved? Example, my current job (which I truly enjoy) will probably pay 5-10k less than my old job, but they only promote from within vs my old job which hired strictly outsiders.

Would you take a $10k pay cut today to have your salary doubled in the next year or two?

this is a question of scale, but most people should answer yes. $10,000 is not that much in comparison to doubling your salary.

Is your salary like $25k or something?  What a dumb question.

At your age, advancement and happiness should priority over money as long as you meet whatever you feel your minimum living wage is.

Sure, but ten years from now you most likely won't regret your decision.

Just 30 minutes ago I was offered my first "career" job. Huge bump in pay and about quadruple the benefits with a company that is well known as being good to their employees and promoting within. I'm pretty stoked. (it's in topeka tho)

is our new POS building gonna slip now?
