coaches the special teams and the kickers.
Could we honestly say we've ever gotten a complete game from special teams with Sean Snyder as special teams coach?
The only one I can possibly think off of the top of my head is at TT two years ago. But it seems like every single game at least one facet of special teams has substantial break downs.
Albeit the one long attempt was a little hard to blame on the FG unit and the kicker.
-
Thank god that Krause isn't the AD anymore, he'd probably be our next head coach.
-
Punting unit had a good game. Kept 'em backed up quite a bit. So 1 good thing. Kind of evens out.

That's true, but you can't "even out" in special teams when one segment is awful in 2 of their 3 opportunities.
-
:billdance: Coaches the "team". One voice.. You get it..
-
Our return units were very good.
-
+Punting unit good.
+ Kickoff unit
+ Return unit
-------------------- Field goal unit was a Chinese fire drill.
-
that is indisputable

ST has been worse since SS took over than it was under Bill without SS. I don't think that is disputable. He need to step down.
-
I mean, the kicker was terrible, but that's a personnel issue, not scheme. But that guy was one of the best in the league last year. We were solid on returns and coverage. Really special teams was 1 guy having a terrible night, Sean's unit has had much worse nights than tonight.

Like against ISU when they gave up a punt return for a TD and couldn't get 10 yards on kick returns? Or against SFA when we had a return called back because we called for a fair catch? You are great but I think you're wrong on this. ST were better under Snyder pre SS.
-
Can somebody that attended the game confirm wind conditions? Seemed like the ball was moving around a lot while in the air.

The ISU punt return was mostly the punter's fault.

can confirm (except when the Auburn kicker kicked)

I was talking about this game, that's all.
As long as 16 stays healthy and Cantele fixes his head, special teams will be fine this year. JMHO

I felt really really bad for Cantele when a select few fans booed him off the field after his 3rd missed field goal. You have to really be a classless asshat to do that. Do you honestly think he was trying to miss those field goals. Good grief

Barners can control the wind now? :surprised:

It was really pretty crazy. He missed more FGs tonight than all of last season.

Don't condone it but understand it.

If I were a kicker, I would feel bad if I didn't get booed after a third straight miss. That would just mean that everyone thinks I suck and they don't expect me to make chipshot field goals.

No, I was at home watching the game on TV.

Booing is part of the game, asshat. The universe is full of yin and yang moments. When you're awesome, the crowd exalts you. When you suck ass, the crowd crucifies you. That's what makes life interesting.

Bad snap on one FG attempt last night, completely messed up the timing.
Let's not have gopowercat.com staff syndrome and lay literally everything at the feet of the players (because D.Scott and company are afraid to pi$$ anybody off at K-State) every single time.
Sean Snyder coaches the kickers, Sean Snyder coaches the special teams, and as I've said, it's rare that we ever get a complete game from the special teams unit.
-
let's be honest, Sean's special teams are just Lockett. Hell, our entire offense is just Lockett. We didn't have lockett for the past two games for returns and it sucked. Then he comes back and we return everything. That's not coaching. It's talent.
missing 3 rough ridin' field goals is inexcusable. hopefully he get's his mind right. judging by our offense, we're going to need him this year.
-
kickers must be so jealous of punters. so much easier by comparison.
-

the misses from 42 and 44 are actually very excusable.

I would agree, and frankly if the offensive staff doesn't fall in love with the WC from the 11 yard line (with a chance to still make a first down) than the 3rd miss likely never happens. But that doesn't negate the fact that it was a bad snap on one FG attempt, and the kicker just flat out missed a chip shot last night. Just like the kick out of bounds on the opening kick-off, and the punt return allowed against Iowa State. It's always something.

maybe in like the 90's. Now, it should be expected. eff, just hit two of the fg's.
-
Cantele almost missed his extra point. He was not going to make any kicks last night, wind or no wind.

i would blame snyder before blaming cantele. k-state had 3rd-and-3 from the auburn 24. if you throw an incompletion, you're guaranteed no better than a 41-yard field goal attempt. with the fairly significant wind (palmer before the attempt: "there is a lot of wind, and it's kind of swirling"), and the unprecedented pressure (biggest home game in forever), this 41-yard attempt - just three yards shorter than cantele's career long - probably had the degree of difficulty of a 50-yarder.
snyder should have been in four-down territory. i think you always ease your kicker into a game like this.
anyway, cantele missed and obviously felt awful. nobody wants to miss a field goal on national TV. so, late in the second quarter, it appears he'll have to kick another one, mentally prepares himself for the possibility of having to kick a 30-yarder, and ... k-state takes a sack. he must now kick a 42-yarder, and "the wind is whipping," and his snapper can't snap, and his holder can't hold, and ... he misses again.
the 22-yarder also wasn't his fault. oh, wait, yes it was.
cantele deserves the blame and should have spoken to the media afterward.
-
Ease a kicker into the game? WTF is this, JV football. My god. Line up and kick the rough rider through the goalposts. Bill not going for it has zero to do with can'tele pissing himself.

Why do people take it easy on players? Your job is to kick field goals. If you can't do that, gtfo
-
So the mentor said that multiple elements of the field goal tries were botched.
How much longer are we going to be saying Sean Snyder's special teams giveth and taketh away during the course of nearly every game?

mostly because college isn't a job. nfl is a different story
-
Sean better be shitting his pants right now. His own kicker just proved that nepotism is bad. Bill:Sean :: Anthony:Jack
