I mean seriously attacked... by something other than a little yap-yap dog?
Went to Stillwater with uncle charlie yesterday for the OSU v UTSA game and stopped by his in-laws when we got to town. He warned me that sometimes their 120 lb german shephard was sometimes "kinda mean" to strangers.
When they tried to introduce me to this hell beast, it charged at me trying to bite my face. Then, bit my left hip before grabbing my left arm in it's jaws... One of the craziest, most surreal things I've ever experienced.
:sdeek:
-
lol. what a dumbass
-
No, dogs love me
-
maybe you should carry pepper spray on your keychain from now on
-
No, dogs love me
Same here... that's why it was so crazy.
-
Did you judge that canine?
-
No, but I have seen it happen. It was bad enough that if somebody tells me their dog can be a little mean then I'm not going to be in the same room with it.
-
Agreed... lesson learned.
-
Was it a drug dog that attacking your stash?
-
You should have reported it. Get that bitch on the bite list
-
An Australian Shepard attacked my face when I was like 2 years old. I almost lost my eye, had to have lots of stitches on my face and I still have a scar. Grandpa (same one in the supper thread!) definitely judged the dog.
-
The second time wasn't quite as bad, but the Mrs. and I were at a live music club in Oakland and there was a homeless guy with his pit bull asking for money. (Like, he's one of those homeless guys that isn't mentally hill but just likes to be homeless.) When my wife said "no, sorry", the dog lunged at her and bit her leg and then lunged at me and bit mine. It seemed pretty obvious the homeless dude had trained it to do that.
-
No, but it's one of my greatest fears.
-
I was/am a bit conflicted on "reporting it"... partially because I was a guest in their home and in the process of trying to help these people (late 60's/early 70's) not feel so bad about their dog viciously attacking me, I said I wouldn't cause them any trouble for it.
It's still all very surreal.

are you their only guest ever? what if a kid gets their face ripped off and you know you could have done something to prevent it?

Were you wearing meat underwear? Was this typical behavior for this dog? If so, why do they even let it in the room with people?
-
BP, by you having to report it, you aren't being the bad person, the owners are. They know what their dog is and they aren't going to do something until someone is really hurt.
-
I agree with others BP. Reporting the dog is the right thing to do.
-
I still have a couple scars from when a dog bit me in the late 90's. eff dogs.
-
If these people live in a rural area and keep the dog in a fenced back yard, preferably tied to a tree, I would consider not reporting the dog if they were good friends. If they have the dog running around in their house, or if it's in town where the likelihood of it running across somebody is greater, then I would report the dog.
Also, did you need stitches? Did the people at least pay your medical costs?
-
Some of you are really dramatic. It's a dog, not a lion. Get over it.
-
Old boss had dog that would bite legs and stuff. Bruises and torn jeans a couple times. Couple years later, it took someones end digit of their middle finger all but off. Happened in his at home office. The guy was able to have his finger saved, but lost most of the feeling in it. Also, the boss's workers comp insurance went up by close to 60% because of the one incident that could have been avoided if he took care of it with the earlier, more mild, bullshit bites. He is extraordinarily lucky he didn't get sued. Small biz. Could have lost it.
-
in this thread kim confesses to be a person with an out of control dog
your new socal location gives you a pretty good chance to get on tv with cesar millan!

this is really similar to what mine was like

So many questions... It barely broke the skin on my forehead and left arm, but left a pretty nasty bruise on my left ass cheek. Strangely, it all happened so fast that I only initially remembered the facial bite (attempt) and the bite of my left arm.
They offered to pay any medical expenses, and were/are very upset by what happened. Will be having a discussion with uncle charlie later today, because as time passes, I'm also of the belief that others (especially kids) may be in danger moving forward.

Yes, when it's the kids its just awful. Kids should never be subjected to that.
-
My dog was put on trial when I was a kid. Our neighbors walked by our backyard and their dog approached my dalmation that was on his chain. Both dogs got into it and our WT neighbors took us to court claiming my dog attacked there's in our backyard and they wanted to sue us for damages. :Ugh: Little did they know, my mom was the main para legal for the county and we had our pick of lawyers. We smoked them in the court room. Trash neighbors gonna trash. :gocho:

It shouldn't weigh into this, but if the owners are known racists, then report the dog. You'd be doing the dog a favor.
-
GG....now you're raising money for a known terrorist?
What the hell is going on in Manhatten?

I couldn't tell if the owners are known racists, but their son in law most definitely is...
I'm torn.

How much contact does the son in law have with the dog. Let that be your deciding factor. (Possibly, poor  dog)

Holidays and (some) game days only, I think... Likely not that much.
-
You can't blame the dog for my short comings.
Think back a few days I'm sure you did something that warranted the attack.
I will have them rename him to Karma in your honor.

Don't forget to calculate that time in dog years.
Okay, here is the deal. If you can't think of anything at all that may have triggered the dog to attack you and you can see a time in the future when this could happen to another human being (especially a child), then you should notify authorities. It's just a dog.
I had a neighbor's dog nip at me with the end result of a single puncture wound and a bruise. I didn't do anything about it, but I still hope today that the offending dog is dead and never did that to anyone else. It happened about 10 years ago. Like you, dogs love me and I love dogs. I did nothing to set this dog off.
Gonna win 'em all!
-
children can be (usually are) complete assholes to dogs. really young children don't even realize they are being assholes to the dogs. it's a miracle of selection that more dogs don't bite the crap out of children that deserve to have the crap bitten out of them.
-
10 stitches when I was 4. The dog got "hit by a truck" later that day.
-
A dog that bites someone unprovoked needs to be "hit by a truck".
Love dogs, had to put one down for something similar, just the way it is.
The exception is working dogs. If your mean rough rider farm dog is mean, you're doing it right, probably. Keeping the 'yotes off your calves isn't a job for the well mannered.
-
My childhood babysitter lived next door to a cop. He left his cop dog out in the backyard, usually in room sized cage in the middle of the yard. But one day it was out, not sure if intentionally or if it got out, but it bit my finger and I had to get stitches. Not sure what happened to it, since you know, I was two. But that cop dog does not seem very good at his job.
-
If you are really torn about what to do, maybe offer to drop everything if they pay to get the dog trained by a professional?

in all honesty this was kind of the case w/ me. The dog was in front of the door I was trying to go through. I think I said "if you don't move, I'll kill you" being two years old and all and then it attacked me. I don't think I touched it or anything though. Looking back, I think it thought "kill" was maybe a command?
Regardless, I was scared as crap of dogs until I was about 10 years old.

Interesting angle... I'm definitely gonna speak up about this.

it is, actually. not every person can handle every dog, but virtually every dog can be handled by someone.

Can that someone keep their dog that can't be handled by others from biting them?

Yeah, by not letting the dog have access to other people.

I do not know the entire life history for every dog owned by every person I have ever known so I can't be sure, but I think I know some who I have no knowledge of them running off.

i don't mean handle in the sense of that particular instant. i mean the person screwed up by getting a dog they weren't able to, didn't want to, or were too lazy or stubborn to train. but plenty of other people could have.
-

no dog i've ever owned has run off. if you expect dogs to run away from there owners on a regular basis, you either know only retards or only people with Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) dogs.

I got attacked by a black Lab ( ! - such a friendly breed) when I was in 3rd grade. About lost my eye, took stitches on my face and arm. Owner offered to let me watch him off the dog on a dirt road outside of town, I turned him down. He paid for my ER visit, never saw that dog again. I still have the scars.
-
My dog will viciously lick the skin right off of you.
And no, we did not put the kid in there. She crawled in on her own.

Dogs are better behaved than most SEC fans/offspring.
Props to this guy for understanding that.
