Title: Indiscriminate Anger Thread
Post by: SdK on August 17, 2014, 12:26:58 PM
In this thread we talk about things that piss us off and shouldn't.

I am currently hating all the shark shows involved with shark week. I think they have done all they can do and sharkweek should be shark day. The need to move on to Killer Whale week. They are the apex predators if you ask me. Sharks are more scary, but get owned when an orca wants to kill it.

This is stemming from their fake documentaries and shooting episodes in a manner that make it seem like there is more danger that there actually is. It's so stupid. But I keep watching.

Ice bucket challenge.

So, you are dumping cold water on your head to avoid giving money to charity?

Yeah, Yeah, donations are really up due to exposure, but still, these cold water freaks are being pretty big aholes from what I can tell.

I hate that when you use the back button to go back from a thread to the main board, it does not register that you visited the thread and still shows it as unread.

Back to the topic at hand ... it really pisses me off when bums and crack addicts hit me up for money.  Seriously at least four of them on my route to and from the train station each day.   Save it for the tourists. :shakesfist:

I live in a fairly busy area near the nexus of 3 of the 5 major arteries in my town.  Needless to say, this is a panoply of panhandlers.  Everyday on my way to work, I drive by these folks' offices.  You get to know these folks by sight, and it's somewhat impressive how dedicated, consistent and punctual they are.  The market is so saturated that their marketing techniques have evolved rapidly, and as a result their signs can appear quite ridiculous to the casual observer.  I saw one this morning that simply read, "Cha Ching".  As the light turned green, he folded the sign to put under his arm and turned around to return to the start of his beat.  The reverse of the sign was clearly a heartfelt plea to help out a disabled war veteran.  Classic A/B testing.  These guys are pros.  One of the most successful overtures I've seen recently was a grinny, grizzled old hippy holding a sign that read, "Not gonna lie, need booze."  Top notch.  I don't begrudge these folks for their chosen professions.  However, I find it hard to look them in the face while refusing to give them money, and so I feel some animosity on some level that I should feel guilty for not giving away my money.  Therefore, I look at my phone or look at the stoplight and wonder what, if anything, these feelings can reveal about the nature of our society and my relationship to it.

Yeah, mostly they just piss me off when I walk past them and then I continue with my day.

Intellectually, I cant find a justification for being pissed off at them. I remember what my dad told me about business when I was young:  Spracne, you don't need a business degree. I can tell you what it's about - it's about figuring out who's got the money in his pocket and then figuring out how to get the money out of it.

I've reconsidered.  I'm going to post something like:  "Instead of dumping perfectly good drinking water on the ground, I'm going to donate to XXXX XXX XXX fund which provides clean drinking water for children and families in Malawi.  I'm sure the kids there would be happy to live long enough to even be concerned with ALS."

One of my co-workers suggested that the challenger should have to pay if the challenged person completes the challenge, so maybe there is something along those lines that can happen at Fatty Fest.

Went to the DMV the other day to update my address. I arrived at 535 and they say they close at 545. So I walk in and they are like, we stop processing at 530. I ask why the sign says 545 then? They repeat the 530 bit and I tell them to change their sign and update it online. Driving from west side MHK to the new DMV wasted 40 minutes of my time and I was furious about it. Take my picture, confirm my address, and get my signature and process it in the morning for all I care. There are 4 service windows and only one of you was with someone when I walked in. I actually had one teller give me a thumbs up about the sign change idea. It pissed me off further.
