Confirmed, English lady is the worst.  She seems to genuinely dislike the ppl that are the reason she has a show to be a bitch on.

I, for one, would really appreciate it if they would bolster the G side of their programming.   I mean, lets be real,  G'ing has not been adequately rep'ed on tv since Gardening By The Yard was yanked a few yrs ago.

here's my impersonation of every Beachfront Bargain episode:

dirty redneck person/couple/family: we would love to have a second home on the gulf shore of alabama.

realtor: what's your budget?

drpcf: $24,000

realtor: no problem. let's go look at a bunch of shacks on this godforsaken stretch of polluted water and you can make 50 jokes about your fishing boat looking good here and whatnot

house hunters international- i have a hard time getting past the shitty europeans living conditions, their houses are weird to me

stud clams factoid: i can correctly guess the house they pick on house hunters 80% of the time

flip or flop is good but i wish they would do less south bay and more LA proper

Is Property Virgins still on?  I love seeing 20 something year olds go and try to buy a house as nice as their parents for half the price.

And after watching enough episodes of Love It or List It, I'm convinced every house in Canada is structurally unsound or has asbestos somewhere in it.

Quick thoughts on Flip or Flop: obviously wife is perfect mix of skank and class, as mentioned before. Tarek? Seems like he can't read, or can't act, or something. Every time he does the sidebar talking heads segment and/or a narration, he so clearly seems to be reading off of cue cards that it's painful. Really needs to be a lot more like that stud dad from the Waco show. But then again, who doesn't?

Oh and t's and p's to Tarek. :frown: This is from Sept 2013...no idea what the status is of it now, but if he's still in troubs then I hopefully he's back up and acting shocked at all the termite damage in no time.

Who was the real estate guy in South Carolina that used fly a helicopter around?  He bought a minor league baseball team and put Josh Hamilton on it after Hamilton's burn-out in Tampa but before going to the Reds.  Maybe that show wasn't on HGTV.

Oh man what about that episode of the Waco show where the wife designer lady got really excited about there being a bunch of old maps in the house's storage? And then they framed them and mounted them all weird.  :Woot:

Know what I have learned from that show? Insanely cheap to get an absolute frackload of land and a huge house for next to nothing in Waco. Just next to nothing.

I think House Hunters is so last year.  Fixer Upper is a great show, but it needs less Baylor.  Property Brothers should really be Property Brother...that realtor bro is definitely riding the whole "my twin brother is the crap and I am just kind of here for the ride" train way too hard.  The show with the cousins and the block party jobs seems forced and finding the next design star show is one of the dumber shows I have watched on tv.  Love it or List it is the HGTV form of What Not To Wear and it sickens me.

In general, HGTV needs more gardens and less Canada.

My bad Pissclams.  Didn't mean to hit an HGTV nerve with you.  I've just been upset since Property Virgins got rid of Sandra Rinomato and I am just heart broken you know.  I know you weren't a fan, but she looks similar to Cindy Self and you know I'm all in on Operation Motor Boat Cindy.  Didn't mean to project on all other shows.  Thanks for helping me see the light.

Never been a My First Place fan, but I do enjoy some Dear Genevieve.  Also, renovation realities is a fave due to my last house being a fixer upper.

Agreed.  Income Property is a pretty solid show.  They make some pretty awesome apartments in those homes and the rent he suggests isn't that bad in some of the areas.

Fair enough.  Design Star just isn't my thing.  I understand the concept, but HGTV to me is about the "common" person owning/buying a home and I can't get into finding another star every year when I really want to see gals and gents similar to me dealing with issues in a home that I have dealt with.

You know the HGTV Dream Home Contest? The people that win never get to keep the house because it is too expensive to pay the income tax plus all the property taxes and utilities.

Whenever I see the Dream Homes I always think about how I could subdivide the house to rent it out.

canada built that network.  way cheaper production costs up there.
rinomato is yesterday's news, she left on her own terms hoping to do a new show.  think about all the great houses that egypt has shown in her short time hosting the show,  granted i don't know why there was no season in 2013 but hopefully it returns soon.

design star is all about the common person designing uncommon things.  jennifer bertrand, season 3 winner, is from olathe and still lives there.

Holmes on Homes was his old show, Holmes Inspection was the newer one.

I enjoyed both of those shows but sometimes he would go a little overboard when repairing stuff.  "Oh what's that, this window is a little drafty?  Well I'd better just build a new 1000 square foot wing and install a new HVAC system and rewire your entire house since one of the walls is open anyway."

I like when they first take them to their dream home, that's like 3x their budget. OMG I LOVE THIS HOUSE, WAIT WHAT? HEY WE CAN'T AFFORD THAT WHAT HECK, MAN?

Then the end up reno'ing some piece of crap that ends up nothing like their dream home.

I could watch over a billion consecutive episodes of house hunters international

also, I think we had this thread already. or at least got into a serious discussion of the hgtv lineup. NEW LINEUP NEW THREAD THO!  :Woot:

HHI is kinda meh, unless the person/couple is absolutely loaded.  Too many of the "my job is relocating me to Budapest for 2 years, and I have $2000/mo to spend on rent."  "Great! Here's a 76 metres-squared flat that was renovated from an old bicycle shop, complete with it's own minifridge and single-burner cooktop."

Or "We'd like a second home in Nicaragua to get away from the city and maybe our friends and families can come visit too!"  "Great, here's a 2 bedroom condo from the 80's built exclusively with plaster and tile.  It's a bit of a fixer-upper, but I'm sure importing quality materials and finding non-lazy local laborers to do the work on time and budget won't be an issue at all!  Plus, it can accomdate 4 whole people, and that might be the beach you can kinda see around that other ugly building!"

sometimes I demand more backstory. like, "my wife and I are looking for a second home in Nice. we are 28 years old and our budget is 2.8 million dollars." you can't just say that and then go shopping for houses. I need to know where this green is coming from folks.

I like to guess the budget before they reveal it based on the appearance and mannerisms of the couple

What I have learned from HGTV is that you are only ever allowed to look at three houses and you MUST make a decision on one of them.

Can't get enough of how the wife decorator lady on Fixer Upper always throws in some kind of bad artsy word decoration on the wall. Usually it's a carved wooden thing with script writing that says FAMILY or BLESS THIS HOME or whatever.  Very middle-America thing to do.

He bought the house and other people do the work.

His smooth voice is great on the narration, too.

Confession: I'm actually a big Hall and Oates fan.

What I have learned from HGTV is that you are only ever allowed to look at three houses and you MUST make a decision on one of them.

We were watching Beachfront Bargain Hunt yesterday and...you won't believe it...they got to look at FOUR (yes, that's right 4) properties. Unprecedented.

I think in most of these shows they actually show them more than 3 houses for editing purposes they only use the top 3 choices.

Jensen also wrote, "They didn't even 'accept' us being a subject for the show until we closed on the house we were buying. So then when they decided to film our episode, we had to scramble to find houses to tour and pretend we were considering." She added, perhaps most surprisingly, that "the ones we looked at weren't even for sale

the spoiler secret to knowing the one they pick is that the one they pick is always empty because they just closed on it. If the house is furnished, they wont pick it.

it only gets tricksy when there are 2 empty houses or when they are international getting furnished condos or some crap

I like how they try to make the wife on Flip or Flop out to be like some kind of decorator but her entire contribution is basically being eye candy and saying obvious things like "we need a big kitchen" and then she picks out fixtures. Then they always show the husband with like a sledgehammer for like two seconds and then he just leaves. And they always work their kids in too.  I like the show, I just think these things are hilarious.

friend of mine has been flipping houses for years. says the amount of money the couple on tv claim they make is b.s.  also says it's impossible to not either break even or lose a bit on a few, unless you do all the work yourself which they clearly aren't.

I can sit down and watch tiny house shows all night long.

Where will they put the sofa?  Is there room for a shower?  Do you have to pee in your shower because there's no room for a toilet?

There's just so much suspense in each episode!

You guys know me by now and you know I think Joanna from Fixer Upper is just a peach with a pretty good eye. But this crap is getting ridiculous. One thing me and Mrs. SB always LOL at is how she can never resist hanging decorative words on the wall, like "eat" or "love" or "family". Just gag me with a spoon, amirite? Well today totally crossed the line. Just totally crossed it. In the first episode I watched, they did the grand reveal to this lady of her new Fixer Upper, and what does it say on the wall? TODAY IS A GOOD DAY TO HAVE A GOOD DAY. I mean, this took up, like, 16 sq. feet on her wall. Pretty big letters. Pretty big.

Then the second 'sode made us just think Joanna is rough ridin' with is. On the wall in the living room was just a massive jumble of like 30-40 very large random numbers and capital letters. Think about how little kids shuffle cards where they just spread 'em out and then kinda smear the cards around for a while. Except instead of cards make them a bunch of random-ass numbers and letters and then mount them all vertically right inside the entryway of a $400,000 house.
