Title: Class Reunions
Post by: WildcatNkilt on August 12, 2014, 03:35:27 PM
Did you go to your 10-year reunion?  Did you or will you be going to your 20-year reunion?

Seems like social media might be killing class reunions.  I've had some friends that recently attended their 10-year reunion and only had 30 or so attendees (including spouses) out of a graduation class of 150+.

It's easy to keep up with old classmates from Facebook.  If you already know what they are doing in their life from social media and have no intention of strengthening that relationship, why is it necessary to go to a reunion?

I will be attending a reunion soon and unfortunately had to help plan it.  I'm kind of excited to catch up with people I haven't seen in a long time, but if the turnout is horrible (i.e. 1/3rd or less show up) I have no intention of helping out with a future reunion.  I can only assume attendance gets worse every 10-years and I did not graduate with a large class.

Just thought I'd help. Mine was fun, but I have a lot of friends that didn't go to theirs.

I haven't been to one yet, but heard that my HS is now inviting the class before and class after the year actually celebrating any given year since such small numbers have been participating.

Doesn't seem to be a horrible idea.  My wife graduated in a class of 500+.  She said they formed a committee of 10 to help plan the reunions.  Out of the 10 people, there were still 80+ classmates they could not locate.

How did they do this before social media?

I was planning to go to my 10 year and even went to the worst town in Kansas to attend but then my best friend from HS had to cancel because she was sick (and she was the only person I cared to see) so instead of attending the reunion we just played cards with my family instead.

Went to my 20th. That was enough. Skipped 25th this summer. I see all their dumb stuff on Facebook.
