our biggest issue as a university, imo. happy to hear that clink got in, but what other recruits are we missing out on?
http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/rankings/highest-acceptance-rate?src=stats
outclassed by Academy of Art University -- embarrassing
-
Semantics. Princeton Review ranked KSU the 17th most beautiful campus in America. Not too shabby for for a bunch a hayseeds.
-
It is amazing that we can have such a high acceptance rate and still be named the college with the best value in the midwest last week. Material doesn't matter, we make masterpieces all day er' day.

yep basically this. Not our fault we can take whomever we want and make them studs and studets in 4-5 years
-
guys we can talk about our numerous awards from national publications all day but what it all comes down to is 100% is better than 99%. fact.
-
I never understood why it's such a big deal to some, for a university to give a certain amount of people an opportunity or not.
-
i don't really think of k-state as a club that's hard to get into, just a club that only successful and friendly good smelling people choose to get into.
-
This is a good thead :'bye cruel world:

taking a bunch of DITRs and coaching them up

I feel really bad for the 1% that didn't make it. I mean at some point you just gotta give em a shot.

Every institution needs that 1% to be made an example of.
-
I just can't believe I ever stressed-out about getting into KSU.

They can go to juco for 2 years and then get in. It's their high school advisor's fault for not telling them that, really. I mean our guidelines are very clear. Why apply if you don't meet them?

I know. Big Oil fucks us again. When will it stop? Never, I fear. Go cats!

just drove through campus and there's a new sign out front of anderson...
Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

We really are America's team, aren't we? I think so.

This. It seems like universities should be rated on the quality of graduates they produce, rather than the number of applicants that are accepted.
Besides, how else are we going to grow our enrollment if we turn down 20% of applicants???

We'll take the bad with the good, but we'll produce nothing short of spectacular.
-
Every third Friday in the admissions office it's "Everyone who applies today gets in day" . . . it's also Jeans day for everyone who puts $2 dollars in the pot. Mary Beth brings her special 3 layer cake, which everyone loves so they have it at 1st break.
-
It's a beautiful American dream of inclusiveness
-
Yes, our standards are a wonderful way to increase diversity and excellence, but another thing to remember is that by keeping the 1% out, we also keep out the likes of timhawk. Just something to think about.
-
Timhawk with a quality education might be a totally different person though, at least give him a chance
-
interesting nature v nurture discussion forming

I hold a degree from Kansas State University. Even after 6 years my arm isn't tired. Partly because "holding a degree" doesn't mean that I am literally carrying it around. In fact, sometimes I forget where it is and have to pull it out of my filing cabinet and take a look just to make sure I am not a fraud and that I have been appropriately validated for middle class employment.
The other part of holding a degree from Kansas State University is that the paper isn't that heavy so there is a chance that I literally could've held it for the past 6 years. There would be some down sides though.
One downside would be that I would be holding a piece of paper all the time, every moment. Like a bad version of those "touch this thing the longest to win a contest to own it."
Another downside would be that I would feel the need to live my life as a literal pun metaphor. Function would take a back seat. Paper cuts would take a front seat.
The last part of holding a degree from Kansas State is that some people don't congratulate me on how awesome an achievement that is.
Some people consider Kansas State University pud. One metric they use to justify this is our 99% acceptance rate. These people are unamerican trash.
Our acceptance rate says "Bring it on!"
If you can't hack it, we will sort the wheat from the chaff with a little help from out national championship grain judging team. Or maybe you think you can just waltz on to campus and get a degree just by enrolling.
You would be ill informed if that were the case. There are a whole bunch of steps you would be leaving out. And Kstate would tell you to take your game to Pitt state.
42% of the students that walk through the limestone gates walk back home having been bested by the 6 year brain buster marathon of Kansas state. College, like life, is not a sprint. That is why only 27% of Kansas State students graduate in 4 years. Most of those probably did that when we sucked at football and basketball at the same time.
Let's take another school just for example, Michigan. Nearly 90% of the chiefs souls willing to stick out a few Northern winters get a wink, a nod and a dgree. They pretty much pass them around with a bottle of brandy on Saturdays at the Big House.
I'll leave you with this point. A West Point actually. 85% of US military college attendees walk out of there with a diploma. Imagine if the military college was as tough as Kansas State. Maybe the US would be that much more awesome. Probably would've colonized mars and stuff.
Holding a Kstate degree is like re-writing the first scene of Cliff Hanger. We are super studs and at Kansas State University, only the strong survive.
So I decided to take my merit badge for being a badass out of the drawer and show it off. Been flexin' on fools all over the office. They don't really know, but now they know enough to know better.

my God the Cliff Hanger reference took my breath away
-
"In our country, true teams rarely exist . . . social barriers and personal ambitions have reduced students to dissolute cliques or individuals thrown together for mutual profit . . . Yet these 99%, with their muddied, cracked bodies, are struggling to hold onto a sense of humanity that we in America have lost and are unlikely to regain. The objective may only be to get a piece of paper and graduate, but the task can be accomplished with an unshackled joy and its memories will be a permanent delight. The women and men who attend that university are more alive than too many of us will ever be. The foolish emptiness we think we perceive in their existence is only our own."

Not Stillwater, that's like their KSU-Salina but not nearly as elite
