My inlaws are getting older and we are trying to get some financials together to get them to move closer to us. They would probably end up living in an apartment complex somewhere in the MHK so I don't know if you guys could give me some rough estimates on what utilities were like living in places like Georgetown or Chase or other comparably sized apartments.
I appreciate the info!

Buying is out of the question?

Too much upkeep for them. Both have disabilities that keep them from being able to maintain things.

Perfect candidate for grand village in my humblest

is that a retirement home? That may happen for one. The other isn't close that phase yet. They are kind of stubborn. They see the price of rentals in MHK and complain about leaving their 600 a month mortgage. But they don't seem to want to include the costs of upkeep and utilities. hatingfrancis has resorted to a spreadsheet to make it them see the costs aren't that far off from each other.

Georgetown is outrageously expensive so that would be a bad comparison.

there's nothing you can do to get them comfortable with today's market.
-
But anyone have any high end price for what their monthly electric bill was like in a modular apartment complex like that? I figured some of our younger gE brethren would have recently lived in some of these places.

Aint that the truth. They want to move. They live in Dodge City right now with absolutely ZERO family there (not to mention in the part of town that has regular gang issues and crime). But because he "owns" the house (even though he really can't maintain it) he is having a hard time giving it up, even though they complain about it constantly.

I can suggest heritage court, my grandma enjoyed living there. Utilities are likely 100-200 high end
She has also rented a duplex in wamego, which you might consider exploring. Close enough for you to assist them, but much cheaper and a little more seniory in lifestyle

Thanks seven! That helps a lot.

I bet the gangs there ride horses and just say YEE HAW! and do all sorts of adorable cowboy stuff. You probably have to rope a calf to join the gang I bet

Dodge City has a gang problem? I like the sound of that.

Wamego does not have a gang problem, fwiw

Dodge has a pretty big gang problem FWIW.

Call the apt complexes in question. They will have all that info.

I would definitely recommend that your elderly grandparents look into Chase Apartments. They would probably enjoy it there. Woodway is worth checking out as well.

So they say.

Is one of the places an assisted living facility. That is what you should be looking at. They will have different levels of care at an assisted living facility. You don't want to move them here and then have to move them again as they require more and more assistance. Do you some research on assisted living facilities in the Manhattan area. This is not a retirement community, nor is it a nursing home.

Brand new apartments being built off scenic drive. Geared towards retirement/elderly folks.
