Title: Fallon
Post by: kso_FAN on July 26, 2014, 01:04:00 PM
I realize Jimmy Fallon has been mentioned here before, even in a thread title, but that was with Timberlake. IMHO, Jimmy deserves his own thread, which I posted in April, so I finally decided to do something about it. I wasn't sure how his format would translate to Late Night, but its been much more funny than I anticipated. Granted, I will admit I rarely watch live, I usually wait for the youtube videos the next day: https://www.youtube.com/user/latenight/videos

The Jon Hamm bit (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TcKT0vbMhkU&list=UU8-Th83bH_thdKZDJCrn88g) was hilarious as well as Morgan Freeman (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FRKVQcbIByo&list=UU8-Th83bH_thdKZDJCrn88g), and that's just in the last few episodes. For whatever reason I find his stuff to be consistently hilarious.

Any other Fallon fans? Jimmy Favorites?

I kinda hate that announcer guy. He'll land on a joke that gets a laugh, and then BEAT IT TO DEATH BY INTERRUPTING JIMMY OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER

Many (most) times I enjoy him. I could see how some could be annoyed.

I think having The Roots as the house band was a genius idea. Whoever's it was.

Yeah totally. Back when it was a white male host, opening with a monologue, then maybe a skit, followed by 2 guests and a musical act it really sucked. Jimmy changed everything!

Great story about this in questloves book:

Jimmy mentioned wanting to do it once.  Questlove thought it was just talk.  They were on some show together and Questlove is walking back to their dressing room and walks in on Fallon and the roots crew are trying to do a human pyramid.  Jimmy asked them again about the show and they decided to do it.

I'm not a fan of his but I understand why people are.

He has the best guests by far.

Pre show planning:

Jimmy: "Hey guys, big show tonight, what do you have planned"
Staff: "We're too lazy to think of like, a 5 minute skit or any new jokes, just play catch phrase with the mom from Modern Family"
Jimmy: "GREAT! BOYISH CHARM DON'T FAIL ME NOW!"

(FWIW that boyish charm gets me every time. I mean, how much fun is Jimmy? )
