I found this fascinating. Particularly when at least 50% of my Michelle Obama news comes from Tim Huelskamp tweets.

Didn't ppl know he was hooking up with other girls before he got voted in? That one Gennifer Flowers girl?! I'm sure they were like: "That poor women and that viscous montser!"

I'm sure most reasonable voters had reservations about putting someone from arkansas in the whitehouse

I actually think Michelle Obama is kind of annoying but that's just me. I don't have a good reason except her always flexing her arm muscles.

Michelle Obama is fat, and her food program starves children in the higher weight percentiles. That's a Chuck Weis on team conditioning level of hypocrisy. She also seems to be somewhat star struck, a characteristic most delusional people share.

Peg isn't the correct term when two men are involved.

Michelle is the sexiest first lady since Jackie O.

When I was a 'lil tike growing up in Regan era America I was all about Nancy and the "Just Say No!" mantra even though I hated Ronald. Then I grew up and realized what the war on drugs was and now I'm like :frown:

No way to know for sure. Birth records are not super reliable in Kenya.

Phony politicians (and their spouses, it seems) annoy me, but it seems particularly awful to concoct a phony story about racism.
People Magazine has published an interview titled The Obamas: How We Deal with Our Own Racist Experiences (http://www.people.com/article/barack-obama-michelle-obama-ferguson-racism-racial-profiling-interview). In it, Michelle recounts being mistaken for a Target employee because she is black.
The protective bubble that comes with the presidency – the armored limo, the Secret Service detail, the White House – shields Barack and Michelle Obama from a lot of unpleasantness. But their encounters with racial prejudice aren't as far in the past as one might expect. And they obviously still sting.
"I think people forget that we've lived in the White House for six years," the first lady told PEOPLE, laughing wryly, along with her husband, at the assumption that the first family has been largely insulated from coming face-to-face with racism.
"Before that, Barack Obama was a black man that lived on the South Side of Chicago, who had his share of troubles catching cabs," Mrs. Obama said in the Dec. 10 interview appearing in the new issue of PEOPLE.
I tell this story – I mean, even as the first lady – during that wonderfully publicized trip I took to Target [remember when she went to target and a press photographer just happened to be there?], not highly disguised, the only person who came up to me in the store was a woman who asked me to help her take something off a shelf. Because she didn't see me as the first lady, she saw me as someone who could help her. Those kinds of things happen in life. So it isn't anything new.
The problem is, that's not why the woman asked for help, as Michelle Obama herself explained last year on Letterman.
I have to tell you something about this trip though. No one knew that was me. Because a woman actually walked up to me, right –I was in the detergent aisle– and she said, I kid you not, she said ‘Excuse me, I just have to ask you something.’ And I thought cover’s blown. She said, ‘Can you reach on that shelf and hand me the detergent?’ I kid you not. And the only thing she said–I reached up cause she was short–I reached up and pulled it down. She said ‘Well, you didn’t have to make it look so easy.’ That was my interaction. I felt so good…She had no idea who I was. I thought as soon as she walked up I looked my–I was with my assistant–and I said this is it. It’s over. We’re going to have to leave; she just needed the detergent.

And here is the published photo of Michelle during her totally spontaneous shopping trip. Yes, I can totally see how she would have been mistaken for a Target employee because she was black.

Making up stories of racism for a People Mag puff piece doesn't seem to be helpful for race relations.

I didn't see anywhere in anything you quoted that she claimed to be mistaken for a Target employee.

Pathetic and Elitist, it's on the Obama family crest
-
I didn't see anywhere in anything you quoted that she claimed to be mistaken for a Target employee.
You're right, but I'm confused as to why else she would now cite this story as an example of racism. She's claiming that the woman asked for her help because she is black, right? That she wouldn't have asked a white woman for help? That doesn't make any sense.
It seems likely that the reason the woman asked for help is exactly as Michelle described it to Letterman - she's tall, the other woman was short. The woman even joked "you didn't have to make it look so easy."
So can someone please explain the racism here?
-
MO is great. I don't know how anyone could hate her.
-
MO is great. I don't know how anyone could hate her.
I don't know enough about her to hate her. She's just kinda there, you know? I know she wants our kids to eat healthy, while her husband is a chain smoker, but that's about it.

Well, now you know two things. She wants our kids to eat healthy, and if a short person asks her for help reaching something on the top shelf at Target, she thinks it's probably due to racism.
-
I don't really care about her one way or the other but the target story is a terrible story. She needs to up her story telling game.

You think People Magazine just randomly decided to insert this story into its article titled "The Obamas: How We Deal with Our Own Racist Experiences"? I guess that's possible. Seems like a stretch.

liberal media :shakesfist:

I always LOL at people outraged by media they don't watch/listen to/read. OH MAN I'M SO MAD AT (fox news, MSNBC, Rush, Hannity, People mag, NY Times, etc). Who gives a crap about People magazine? Dentist office waiting room people maybe?

The implication is clearly there that mistaking MO has a store employee was in fact racism.
That's what we've become; innocuous, every day things that happen all across the country every day, are somehow racist if the situation occurs to certain people.
A sorry state of affairs.
-
It was a pretty weak example of racism.

I was mistaken for a target employee once. I was wearing khaki shorts and a red polo, and some lady came up to me and asked if we had something (don't remember what she was looking for). I just shrugged my shoulders and said I have no idea. The lady looked angry and probably told the manager about me.
-
how much of your last paycheck do you guys think moochelle funneled into this puff piece coming out on that liberal rag? :curse:
-
I think the implication is there. I would imagine most people would intuitively make that link reading the story as written. However, the onus is on the author(s) of the piece. It was either lazy or dishonest. Or both.

I dunno but this target story makes me think she'd be pretty boring IRL. I mean, its the boringest story ever.
My favorite first lady OAT remains the same:

Barbara bush had a radio show on Sunday mornings where she would read to kids. I think it was on NPR maybe. Very great. I listened to it sometimes.
-
First lady has to be about the worst job on the planet. That is a good point, CF3. Imagine planning an entire day around a trip to Target. It would be like living in Meade and planning a big Saturday shopping in Dodge City.
-
yeah its a pretty lame job. i think i would hate being a famous person honestly.
