Title: Paying it Forward (nice guy/girl related thread)
Post by: The Big Train on June 23, 2014, 01:15:28 PM
So idk how many of you guys have seen the movie Pay it Forward, it's got Helen Hunt and that kid that saw dead people.  Anyway this thread is about that.  So I was getting lunch today at Goodcents and this little squawk in front of me got a footlong turkey on white, and was getting the meal deal.  Well this poor soul had his card declined 3 times  :frown: so me being the :kstategrad: that I am paid for his meal.  Let me tell you guys the  :D that came across his face when he learned he wasn't going hungry for lunch was just the best.

So, what have you guys done and will do to Pay it Forward?

I've probably been nice to someone before, but I'm having trouble recalling any particular instances.

when I do this mrs. dave gets infuriated. I will slow down to let them get in there if they turn on their signal. she is a typical "floor it to get ahead of them so they can't get in" POS driver.

Last year before a Cats FB game, I was at the Dara's, you know the one that's right by campus, close to the stadium.  The college aged girl in front of me was getting a fountain drink (prob to put vodka into, lolz) and something else, didn't have enough money, or they didn't take her card or something.  Anyone, I stepped in and said, "just put her's with mine".  She said thanks, and then we went our separate ways and watched EMAW.  What a day.

This is very hard for me to do because on the rare occasion i do this they generally do something really stupid in front of me.

I mean if you are paying for theirs and your own, I get it.  If you are just paying for crap you didn't order instead of paying for what you did, that is really dumb.

One time in college I had my Taco Bell order payed for by the person in front of me in the Drive-Thru (something like 4 bucks), so I asked the drive thru employee how much the car behind me's order was going to be.  They responded with "$24.83" so I was like okay welp nevermind and I drove off to eat my free Taco Bell at home.  Who spends 25 bucks at Taco Bell?

Paying it forward means someone did something nice for you and then you did something nice for another person. Maybe you should recognize the person who did the nice thing for you instead of just patting yourself on the back.  :dunno:

If I was working at a taco rough ridin' bell, I would've pocketed that $4.

every day i stop by a local florist on the way to my office and pick up a large bouquet of the most beautiful of that day's floral assortment and then stop by a different nursing home and deliver the flowers, one by one, to each of the elderly in the home.  then i bring all of the elderly out to the rec room and play patty cake with them and eat fudge which i had hand made the night before.  then it's off to work for a day of getting stuff done.  rinse and repeat.

it was her birthday and she was kinda bitching about not getting a birthday cake while we were in chicago so maybe some people felt bad for me having to put up with her garbage attitude?

QFT.  I feel like if I let someone in ahead of me it's only going to enable more stupid driving behavior.

Like 2.5 years ago the parking lot at work was over-flowing really badly and they got some overflow parking which was like a block from the building but nobody parked there because they didn't want to walk. Well I parked there because I am a good person and they gave me a $5 starbucks gift card for doing so. I promptly gave away said gift card  :gocho:

Boy howdy that was a long story.

Starbucks line.  Twice.  Had someone pay my bill.  It ends there.  I don't pay for the next guy, I just tip very well and drive off.   :billdance:

On Anniversary, Wife and I had someone pay our bill at a restaurant once too.  Again, just tipped like a boss and bounced.

Sorta similar but not really the same, I'm a huge believer in Karma.

Not that I believe there is some great "Karmatic Force" out there, just that if I'm a good person and don't take things that aren't mine people will do the same.

Some examples -

One time in college I forgot my bookbag in a class and didnt realize it until like 2 classes later. I went back to the classroom and there was a note on the door saying if you forgot your bookbag call this number  :D

About 4 years ago I decided (wisely) that I was way to pak'd to drive home and didnt need my keys anymore so I threw them across a crowded bar against a back wall(When I got home I realized I had locked my apartment door and had to scale a 3 story balcony to open the back sliding door). The next day I called the bar and someone had turned my keys in at the front desk  :D

It doesn't always work out

Had about $500 worth of fishing gear stolen last night  :frown:

Went fishing along the KS river(by 435 bridge) yesterday afternoon with the dog. Was in a rush to get everything loaded before the cats game and ended up leaving 4 poles and my fishing bag along the side of the road.

Did not realize I had left everything there until I got home and by that time there was only an hr before the cats game. My gear was on the side of a gravel road that I had never seen any cars on before so I figured it would be fine until after the game.

Went to get it after the game and it was all gone  :frown:

but I think I'll keep being a good person.

Some girl dropped her wallet outside of target in olathe.  I opened it and saw she had a target card so took it to the sevice desk so they could call her.  Lady asked me to write down my name and number incase, I declined.  There was a good amount of cash in the wallet and credit/debit cards.  Would've been a huge headache to replace all that.
