Title: Reminiscing
Post by: Harry Doyle on June 05, 2014, 08:47:12 AM
So last night I was thinking about K-State football of days past and all of the stud bosses to play for the wild wildcats. One that stood out to me (maybe because it he is recent, whatever) was that time when Arthur Brown killed that guy from OU. Man that was great.

I was in some cool little basement bar in Wilson, KS, for that game.  I think my enthusiasm scared away most of the other patrons.  I loved that play.  And of course the sack fumble TD.  And of course John Hubert flexing.

while maybe not as impressive of a hit, I liked it when AB chipped (flat knocked him on his ass) the Baylor RB coming out of the backfield on a pass play and then ran down RG3 as he tried to run with it.   :surprised:

Nah, I'm talking about the OU wideout that was on a crossing route and ABJr murdered him. I remember watching the broadcast and they automatically assumed it was an illegal hit and put up the FLAG graphic. It was legal and The Judge committed a justifiable homicide.

We watched that OU game from the top floor of Harpos in Westport. The sack fumble TD was hilarious. One of my buddies just thought it was a sack and did a little double fist pump and "yah" looking for a high five. When he turned he missed the TD while the rest of us were going crazy. The look on his face was hilarious thinking we were all way over celebrating. Lots of shots were had and our waitress lost 2lbs hauling buckets of beer that night. Then blackout.

Getting chills thinking about how awesome that night was

With Texas driving to pull with 4 in the 4th, on 2nd & long Evans breaking on a pass and making one of the best, most fundamentally sound open field tackles I've seen.  Tackle was made at the 23 and no one else was within 10 yards.  At a minimum he kept Texas out of short field goal range to pull with one score.  Forced Texas to attempt a 40 yard FG, which they missed and crushed Texas' come back hopes.

Could list so many memorable plays in the last 20+ years but some that really stick out are:

It was not a single play but the "Drive" covering 85 yards in 56 seconds to win in Stillwater in 1993 was one to remember.

D. Sproles with those short legs and choppy steps running 60+ yards for the TD on the screen pass against OU at Arrowhead in the 2003 championship game.

A. Brown running across the field from the far sideline to tackle RG III for a loss in 2011.

Any Baby Lockett TD run in the past and hopefully this year.

1. Sproles pulling that Nub defender into the endzone all little engine that could like.

2. Sproles juking the USC defenders and having one take out 2 others.  That was pretty bad ass.

3. I can't believe the 99 hit on the KU QB hasn't been mentioned.

4. Or when Ochs sacked Crouch in '98 and the Nubbs tried to say he got his facemask.  Clearly it was clean.

5. Hernandez TD catch  against North Texas to win

6. Senior Locketts TD against Cincinnati

7. Goal line hit by a Mario Smith against TT to seal the deal.

What about the texas game in 2012? There was an "Engery/Excitement" that day that I had never felt in BSFS before. The game was close but when lockett caught a patented CK7 bomb to start the 4th quarter I knew this game was ours.

What sealed the deal was Willie getting on top of the pressbox to lead the "K-S-U WILDCATS" chant. I had grown up watching old youtube video's from the 2000 Nebraska game when Willie did the same thing and completely "LOST MY crap" when I got to see it live in person.

Then I rushed the field with 10,000 members of the KSU family and it was Amazing. I grabbed Adam Davis by the shoulder pads and thanked him for this moment, IIRC the quote was something like "I want you to know that this isn't just about right now, my Grandparents and parents watched crap football for 50+ years but this, this right here, this makes it all worth it, and I thank you for that"
