Title: very important phone texting question
Post by: Dr Rick Daris on May 29, 2014, 03:28:00 PM
so i'm friends with some people and they've been group texting all day. i still have a four year old sprint evo because it hasn't broken yet and i refuse to replace it until it breaks. anyway, these guys are all group texting but it shows up on my phone as just individual texts from each and it's impossible to follow the convo so most of the time when this happens i just don't bother. can i change this? also, when i respond i have to "respond all" and it just sends them individual responses so it looks like i didn't respond to the group but to them individually. can i fix this. it's just the worst you guys and i'm pretty sure it's an easy fix but honest to god i'm 52 years old and can't figure this out. thanks guys. ftb.

I hate to break this to you Rick, but you are screwed with that phone in re: group messaging. Your best bet is to ask your friends to kindly remove you from the group text. Maybe you can stay in touch with them in other ways such as mail.  :dunno:

All cell phone questions need to be PM'd to Johnny Wichita.

ok, so i read some anecdotes that suggest it may be possible to install and then delete a 3rd party messaging app and then it magically starts working.

Texting in general is just the worst.  Here let me type you this message on my phone, I mean are you kidding me?

daris, this call all be solved by convincing your friends to start a groupme instead of using mass texting.

you won't be able to use or see the emoticons i reckon, but it's better than nothing.

I mean instead of watching a show on TV why don't we just view words on a blank screen describing what's supposed to be going on?  I mean that's basically what texting is.  Dumb.

I have a customer that accidentally included me in a group text with his golf buddies.  Now, every weekend, I get multiple texts from ppl I don't know.  What is  about it is that they keep using the group text string which obviously excludes one of their friends with the same name as me.  Poor bastard has been dumped as a bro without anyone intending it.

"Hey what time are you picking me up?"

"I just sent you a text."

"ok?"

"Well did you get it?"

"I don't know but we're talking on the phone right now using our voices so why don't you just tell me what time you stupid idiot."

My mom isn't good at texting, either. Don't feel bad, Rick. She's only 7 years older than you are.

It depends on how elite the group is.  The group daris is referring to is probably as elite as it gets.

Group texting is pretty dumb. Like who decided it was a good idea for me to receive fragments of conversations throughout the day, with no continued participation of my own? Like, why would I want to receive texts such as "cool", and "ya bro" from two random people out of the 12-person group text 5 hours after it started? CAN SOMEBODY EXPLAIN THAT crap? WHY IS THIS HAPPENING TO ME

the Verizon Messaging App has been pretty good lately for group texts including groups with Iphone users.  I have used for 4+ years and it occassionally with have some issues but it has been solid for the last year+.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.verizon.messaging.vzmsgs (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.verizon.messaging.vzmsgs)

I am still using my old Verizon GS3 (grandfathered unlimited data yo) but it works fine on my kids crappy wifi only Samsung Tab 2s so I imagine it will work on a Sprint Evo

You know what is just the worst, that 1 android user that makes it all about himself and makes the iPhone users waste their txt messages when the android person could just nut up and get an iPhone so nobody would have to waste their text messages because nobody would be a cheap ass and have an android.

so getting a phone that costs the exact same price as an iphone is being a cheap ass, but worrying about a few cents here or there in text's (who the eff doesn't have unlimited plans anyway?) isn't being a cheap ass.

iphone user logic right there

That's a tough situ. Rick. Might need to switch to Windows Phone, it supports group messaging.

You know what is really annoying? When someone that you don't even know replies to a group text, but you get it as a single text from some rando number and it is totally out of context and then you are thinking "Who the eff is this texting me about pudding?"

RD if you download the Google chat app it works like a more up-to-date texting app.
