STILLWATER – Oklahoma State’s football program will take an APR hit today when the NCAA releases its latest numbers.
The fallout: a loss of one practice day per week, according to a source within the athletic program.
As first reported by GoPokes.com and confirmed through the university source, OSU’s APR – Academic Progress Rate – numbers will fall below the NCAA minimum requirement, which is 930 spanning a four-year period, or 940 over a two-year period.
OSU fell a fraction of a point shy of avoiding penalty, with its number at 929.41 for the last four years. Had the Cowboys been at 929.50, the number would have been rounded up, meaning they missed by nine-one-hundreds of a point. The Cowboys avoided a more damaging postseason ban.
The program’s numbers were actually improved from a year ago, when OSU scored 926 over four years, but the NCAA raised its minimums for this season, from 900 for four years and 930 for two years, to 930 and 940.
The source said school officials anticipate that the penalty will be limited to one season, as the program has made adjustments resulting in significant improvements over the past two years. This reporting period spans the 2012-13, 2011-12, 2010-11 and 2009-10 school years, with the latter – one of the worst of the years calculated – falling off the books.

I picture Snyder's head exploding if that happened to us.
-
I guess I'll chalk OSU up as a win (j/k, I already was).
-
I would guess most college teams practice too much already so this is probably more of a competitive bonus than a punishment.
-
Guess that Laissez-Faire transfer policy came back to bite them in their assless chaps.

yep, exactly.

They'll find ways to circumvent this like give them suggested things to work on, and players will go "voluntarily" work out or "voluntarily" do film study, etc.
I doubt Gundy is sweating this all that much.

Yes. Practice can be defined many different ways.

Meanwhile, Kentucky basketball is having no problems.

And K-State dominates yet another thing:

K-State leads APR among Big 12 in 5 sports: "The football team’s four-year score of .968 was also the best among all Big 12 schools." Wow.

A bit misleading, given that...
Led by men's basketball and volleyball's perfect 1,000-point four-year average, all 18 of KU's athletic programs came in well above the 930 mark that conveys programs in good standing according to the NCAA.
Included among the four-year marks released today were five programs (men's basketball, volleyball, men's golf, women's basketball and women's tennis) that recorded perfect APR scores during the 2012-13 school year.
So, at minimum, KU also "leads" the big 12 in at least 5 sports.

Maybe the K-State figures were using the four-year average that the NCAA cares about. :dunno:
-
I will say that Sprac's is giving Beems a serious run for title of Chief ku propagandist in residence.
Keep up the great work.
-
Why do they bother rounding? Like, "hey, our standard is 930, but it's totally cool if you get 929.5
