Title: Offical Dr. Pepper plans announced
Post by: ydarg2012 on April 17, 2014, 08:56:33 AM
ESPN has released how the upcoming college football playoff will be held.  Not entirely sure how I feel about 6 games in two days, what do you guys think?

I'm sure it will all work out and be awesome, but I'd be unhappy if my team had to play the early game and not get as much attention as we would have previously with the games on different days.

Two weeks between semifinal and National Championship.  I guess it's like the Super Bowl but will be weird to wait that long for college football.

And really, for those teams it's almost a month off, play, then another 2 weeks off.

I'm guessing that's to make the game fair for preparation since usually a team has over a month to prepare for their national championship opponent?

With 129 full fbs members by 2015 there ought to be more consideration for expanding the playoff format.

They should consider axing some full fbs members.

This gives my age away but I can remember "In a time long ago" when I think the Sun bowl, Bluebonnet bowl and Peach bowl were all played in News Eve afternoon and evening.  Then on NEW YEARS day my dad would set down at noon watch the Cotton Bowl game then watch the last of the Sugar bowl, which was played outside at Tulane Stadium I think, the Rose Bowl and the Orange bowl after which he would finally stand up and go to the bathroom for the first time since the Cotton Bowl started!

Speaking of the Orange Bowl does anyone but me remember when the boys from "Child Molester U" beat the cheaters from Larryville by one point when they got a 2nd chance to run a two point extra point play  after the Squacks stopped the Nittany Lions on their first 2 point play but those cheaters from the Flaw on the Kaw had 12 men on the field!  That still brings a smile to my face.

It is not officially the Atlanta Bowl. It was the Chick-Fil-A Bowl last year, but speculation is that they will be forced to change the name back to the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl of old. It is currently listed as the Chick-Fil-A Bowl on the bowl's official website. The College Football Playoff has been using Chick-Fil-A and Atlanta interchangeably.

I think that would be the worst thing any president could do ever. The economic impact alone. . .their would be blackmarket games held in back alleys. . .it would be a dangerous scene.

Two questions. . 1) when was the last time we had real morning til night new years games 2) what is your definition of really young? -sincere inquiry :sincere:

Good question, bowl alliance I think so about 1997 although I can't remember it happening since I was pretty young. The morning would start with the Citrus Bowl, then the Cotton, and the Rose, Sugar, Orange, and Fiesta would all be at night; two games on NBC, two on ABC.  I am very old so for my really young is anyone under 50.

I think they moved it to that time about 10 or 15 years ago and it stayed that way until they moved to Cowboys Stadium. I know the 2000 game was in the morning but the 1996 game was in the afternoon.
