It appears another K-State site has a story up about the great K-Stater and first African American Scholar Athlete in the Big 7 soon Big 8: Harold Robinson.
It seems that back when the great Harold Robinson was playing for K-State his life was literally threatened in the few days before K-State would travel to Lawrence to play ku. The rumors emanating out of Lawrentucky were that they were going to "kill" Harold Robinson. K-State's coach at the time pleaded with Robinson not to play, but he did, and valiant Mr. Robinson was able to avoid getting knocked out of the game (or worse) until the final few minutes. For 57 minutes Harold Robinson endured numerous outrageous attempts by ku players to purposely maim or injure. Finally 3 ku players ganged up on Robinson well away from the play and assaulted him in unison with body blows, elbows, kicks and knees to the nether regions causing enough temporary injury to knock him from the game.
Sad and outrageous but not the least bit surprising.
RIP EMAW Elite Stud: Harold Robinson

I think we should rename the stadium in his honor. Pretty brave dude.
-
How is this not already a 30 for 30?
-
I am pretty shocked, but in no way surprised.

After Harold Robinson made the football team, Jackie Robinson -- who was not related -- wrote Harold Robinson a letter of congratulations.

I know this is kind of a tongue-in-cheek thread, but it brings to mind a great deal of stuff I learned while helping my sister out with a class about racism in sports history. It was a class here in WV at Marshall University, taught by a professor with a degree from?..... KU. He referenced a bunch of extremely sad racist things he researched about his alma mater. And that's saying a lot when he's teaching in West Virginia, I'll admit it.
Time to progress as a species, folks!

Met Wilt Chamberlain's old roommate at KU, who said that Lawrentucky residents spit on Wilt and would not permit him to enter most retail establishments.

Another completely shocking but not at all surprising tidbit. Sad really

That's why you hear/read stories of Wilt hopping into his ku booster purchased Oldsmobile convertible and heading down the highway to KCMO as often as he could. Which was pretty often, as according to guys like ku track great Al Oerter, Wilt didn't do much in the way of actual classwork. Pretty proud of ku for the car and not making Wilt actually be a student.
