We should consider an Athletic Department IPO.
netting 15%/yr would be an incredible ROI.

Negated
-
I know Mizzou is still in a transition of sorts to the SEC but lol at their deficit last year and their tiny surplus this year. SEC, SEC, SEC!
-
Those positives were negated by a drop in men’s basketball revenue, from $6.8 million to $5.5 million, and increases in coaching/administrative staff salaries and team travel.
Well that is just shocking
-
man, ku fans are really crazy about basketball to be making that much revenue
-
Not shown is $20 million in capital giving.

you're so weird

It's interesting to see how much KU gets in radio and TV. They must have a good radio deal. I assume this includes some of the take from Time Warner as well.
I did find it interesting that they have these revenues but still take so much from the state.
I'm curious to see how ours stacks up when we add charitable giving from the NEZ project next year. The biggest differences were broadcast deals, licensing, and charitable giving.
-
The giving for the NEZ is not operational revenue.

we should spend more
I agree, we should rarely have a surplus. It might even be worse than running a deficit. I mean if we want to actually care about having competitive teams in as many sports as possible.

So ku's reporting includes 18 months worth of donations??
In fact, Kaufman said, a change in the department’s fundraising cycle caused nearly a year and a half’s worth of contributions to be counted in 2013. Kansas counted nearly $33 million in contributions in 2013, up from $22.4 million the year before.
“It’s kind of an anomaly this year,” Kaufman said, “because we adjusted our cycle.”

Everyone came unhinged a couple of years ago, because K-State followed applicable accounting rules for non profits as it pertains to unconditional promises to give made during a specific fiscal year. But ku is using 18 months worth of contributions?
KU doesn't do that and they likely finish FY 2013 in the red . . . again.

I'm actually a little offended that he didn't start this thread.

Ahhh. That makes their 2013 donations make a little more sense. I couldn't think of anything big that had happened for KU fans to get excited and make a bunch of big donations.

I don't think our recruiting budget is what limits our recruiting prowess.
