Was of course a great show in the 1980's, but lets talk professional services.
Are any of you gE bros in a position to offer advice on the best way to provide professional services as an individual with the protection of E&O insurance without me personally buying a policy? I am thinking that the business entity that I would do the work for would hire me as a "consultant" and put me under their insurance. Does this sound feasible? Legal? Crazy?

I would definitely make sure that it says that you are covered under their policy in some sort of agreement. If you are working as an independent contractor I think the burden for insurance falls on you. I would bet a certain professional society we both know about would have some information on that.

That is a good way to lose your daylight job and your license. It will payoff in the long run to develop the business for your current employer, or refer them to a firm you have a relationship with.

Would not do without employer permission obviously. It is a little more complicated than this, but the firm I am looking to help is a bit of a shaky proposition in most peoples eyes and I am one of the few that is willing to help them out.

Your firm probably works through an insurance broker. Talk to them. The type of coverage and deductibles can vary. They will help make sure you are protected.

Are you going to set up a separate LLC or anything like that? Might help limit some liability :gocho:
If you have a strong enough contract with the company you are moonlighting for you can make sure they cover you under their E&O policy. Unless they aren't in the same business as you and dont have one. You can get personal/small LLC E&O policies for yourself in the $500-$1500 range but that would only make sense if you were doing a significant amount of work.

Probably will not be enough work to make it worth an LLC or warrant a personal E&O but I will check into it. I think the client firm may be able to provide the insurance they are close enough in discipline. Thanks for the help gE probros, I knew you guys would have good advice. After all we are EMAW and all that entails :kstategrad:
