Lots of people talk about player improvement, but its hard to really judge without quantifiable information. Here are charts that compare K-State's key returners for all games and for Big 12 games so you can make a informed decision if/how these returners improved under oscar and his staff.
I used per 100 stats because IMHO these allow us to judge the players for what they actually produce while they are on the floor.

There is a lot of things to like about Gip and Nino, but we need DJamer and the other 2 bigs who will be here next year to help with our defensive rebounds and give us a shot blocking threat near the rim. Nino and DJamer really play wih high motors attacking the ORs.
We had lots of freshman TOs because those young guys just played too fast at times. That will get better with experience. I think Nigel has done such a nice job of not forcing things as much and realizing what his role is.
Jevon really shot the poorly but even with his minutes being limited the past 4 weeks, our offense continued to have problems. We really needed Shane to be a consistent scorer shooting the ball and that hasn't happened.
Foster and Thomas show a lot of promise on defensive end considering they are just frosh. Westicles and his length have a lot of upside.
-
Nino has turned into a nice little role player and I did not see that happening.
-
My surprise at lack of improvement and actual regression in cut Gip vs house Gip reveals my over appreciation of awesome dunks
-
I wouldn't say Gip regressed, he did play a lot more minutes this year. However, we needed him to score more and he had a tough time in some games. Of course part of this is we really only had 2 players who were legitimate 3pt threats so defenses could collapse without having to respect most of our perimeter players.
-
My eyeball assumption that Shane regressed during league games has now been proven with science.
-
Offensively, shane has sucked balls for a month or so. He got off twitter, got buckets, got back on twitter, and its like frank has been DM'ing him since or something.
-
Gip has absolutely gotten better, his numbers don't show it because he is burdened by being the only big on the floor. If oscar decides to play 3 out 2 in next year Gip will be on one off the all-conference teams.
-
DJamer and Nino are valuable assets. #amazing
-
Gip came along way defensively this year. Thought Nigel and Foster came along way defensively this season, specially on the ball.
-
DJamer played great down the stretch. He gonna be solid next year.
Teams looking up. At least I hope.

I think there are lots of reasons to believe the 14-15 cats will be really good.

the post-will bbs era will be a fun one

Shane always reminded me of Lamar Odom. They both can do a bit of everything for their team but just choose not to much of the time. Confounding as eff.

My initial keys:
#1 for next year's team will be the development of Jevon/Nigel. If those two make decent improvements in both scoring and what they can do within the offense, then K-State will contend for the Top 3 in the league.
#2 is probably Edwards, but I see Edwards as a bit of a wildcard. If he can make the transition from Maine and become a scorer and a perimeter player that can get to the rim, then K-State's offense changes drastically.
#3 is if Bolden and Hurt can play. If K-State can spend more minutes with 2 bigs on the floor a) we match up with bigger teams (namely KU) better and b) we cause problems for so many other teams in the league that don't really play a true PF.
-
As far as improvement for current players - I agree Jevon/Nigel will be huge. I think they both do some things really well, but Jevon needs to be a threat to score.
Westicles needs to be more consistent and stronger. I hate to say he "needs" to do anything because he really overachieved as a frosh but I think he will be key to our success. He finds his way into the paint and does pretty well down there. Both of those are things that I think Sophomores typically improve quite a bit at.
Gip/DJamer just need to make shots from within 5 or 6 feet. DJamer did it really well against KU and it made all the difference. Seems like Gip either scores 4 or 16 and it all depends on making the close shots.
#3 is if Bolden and Hurt can play. If K-State can spend more minutes with 2 bigs on the floor a) we match up with bigger teams (namely KU) better and b) we cause problems for so many other teams in the league that don't really play a true PF.
Do you think oscar would other than in extreme mismatch situations? We had Gip and JO and they rarely saw the floor together.

Judging by his use of Gip and DJamer together as the season went along, yes. Plus if Hurt and Bolden can both play well, oscar has even more pressure to play 2 bigs.
I agree on Westicles. He did a lot of good things, but it would be nice if can be a more consistent scorer and get his points/100 into the low 20s at least.

I think these are pretty accurate keys.
#1 - Will the PGs be good enough to play at least 30 minutes combined. I don't think we have to have both of them get all 40 minutes at the PG spot, but getting at least 30 quality minutes would be a good sign.
#2 - I think Edwards ability to score the ball will be important. He wasn't a good 3pt shooter and only 22% of his shots in 2 yrs at Maine were behind the arc. Let's hope he will be a better shooter. I know some on this board have their doubts and rightfully so. It would be nice to have someone other than Foster to stretch the defense and at least have the ability to shoot the 3. Westicles hopefully improves his outside shot and Nigel has the ability to shoot 3s, but at this point neither can be counted on. One thing I do like about Edwards was his ability to rebound the basketball. Ave 5.4 reb in playing almost 80% of the minutes in 2 yrs.
#3 - We will have 5 guys to compete for playing time at the 4/5 spots. Nino has proven himself and will get minutes but the rest of the minutes should go to all true bigs. Shane wasn't a good OR and Nino wasn't a good DR this year, so hopefully having more true bigs on the court will help with Reb and rim protecting

Have heard good things about Edwards shot. I don't like Nino defensively he rotates late and closer out poorly on the perimeter.

why does his close out speed matter, he isn't guarding shooters

Because we switch a lot.

1. he shouldn't be switching onto guards, we only switch guard to guard on screens and the bigs hedge
2. If his guy isn't screening even if they do switch he sure as hell better not be closing out

I think Mixed Nutz is referring to the fact that our guards get beat off the dribble more often than we'd like and the result of that lately has been Nino failing to get to the open man in the corner very quickly. It's happened enough lately to be of note.

If guys are getting beat off of the dribble and he's playing the 4, most likely his responsibility would be helping on penetration and another guard should be rotating into the corner
