Completely punked in the 2nd half by Scott Drew and the Baylor Bears. Our 3PT shooting looks nice, but that's only because of Foster going 5-5 in the last 5 minutes after K-State got down 56-46. Also, my biggest concern (oboarding) was dominated by K-State, but it didn't matter because the Bears dominated on 2PT shots.
The Cats started the 2nd half by immediately building a 12 point lead, then gave up a 9-2 Baylor run, got it seemingly back under control and up 7 (43-36) and then completely fell apart from the 13 minute mark until 5 minute mark when Heslip's 3 made it 56-46 after a 20-3 run. Foster made things interesting, but the Big 12's worst FT shooting team in Big 12 play (66% coming in) proceeded to make their last 17 free throws to hold off the Cats.
An ugly way to finish the season with 2 losses and limp into the Big 12 tournament against Iowa State. A very disappointing afternoon.

Needed to attack the rim more in the 2nd half, but we defiantly don't have the right pieces to play against a long zone.
-
Pretty terrible basketball.
This final conference stretch showed that '13-'14 K-State was just a slightly above mediocre team, that's likely to be a one and done in the NCAA.
It also points the spotlight squarely back on Weber late season falters.
-
The defense in the 2nd half was not good at all. However u can't score 9 pts in a 12:45 span at home against their below ave road defense. SSouthwell is just worthless. Missed 2/3 of his FGs and FTs and had ZERO Rebs. Will had a tough day shooting but at least he played hard

Yeah, it's hard to deny that after such a terrible half of basketball at home to end the regular season.
Honestly, I don't care much about next week, I just want to see an NCAA win. Do that and I'll be okay with this season. Hopefully Foster can carry this team the next couple of seasons, but some of the other guys must develop.

Westicles and Will can't be that bad offensively.

NCAA experience will be great for this team specially if they can get to a second game. Don't think Foster will have to carry the team the next couple of years because of all the upgrades around him. One of oscar's best traits is player development. Then you add in the additions of Edwards, Bolden, Hurt and a shooter like Harris and you have a way better team.

How many pull up jumpers did Chery hit dribbling right handed and pulling up? About 4-5 in the games first 25 min. Gotta take away that right hand more because he doesn't pull up ( for jumper) going left. Then careless plays. Jevon throws a pass right to Chery. Foster with an unforced bad pass early 2nd. Gip fumbles a DReb out of bounds after a miss FT.
-
What was Will's development? Shane? I guess starving Gip worked. JFC. You probably think the reason ku's big men were good was because of Manning.
-
Very KITNs game. Feel like ISU will smoke us and then we'll probably get put out in the first round of NCAAs. Four game losing streak to end the year......smh.

Next stop on the TGip self improvement express: Hands

Nino 10 reb 24 min. Shane 0 reb 19 min. Not to mention Shane misses 1and1, then misses 1 of 2 FTs and laughs after 1st miss. Its sad Shane doesn't play with a chip on his shoulder anymore. Only thing he does well these days is Pout
-
Jevon and Shane have no business getting anything but garbage minutes. Very disappointing.
-
laugh & pout, pout & laugh. eff southwell (senior).

Our best Sr. today was Schultz (sp?)

In case you guys were wondering what Foster does after a home loss, he goes to Chili's.

Hope he wasn't hanging out with any of the rough ridin' losers from the team.
-
Nope, with a filly.
-
NuWill looked like Jevon today but with worse defense. He couldn't penetrate that zone nor could he shoot, it was dreadful to see.
-
He had some bad turnovers, but 8 assists and 3 steals. However, this team can't afford for Will to shoot 6 threes and not make one.
At the end of the day, no one could guard Cherry and Jefferson made plays. To give up 1.44 ppp in the 2nd half with so much on the line was very disappointing and most Big 12 teams would have beat us with that defense.

it wasn't Will's day. I didn't feel his D was poor but the 0-6 and 4TOs were costly and the 8 assts aren't enough to balance out his bad offensive day

I don't care about the turnovers, as you mentioned he moved the ball well, but they were able to pretty much play a matchup zone because we had no one who could get the ball to the middle of the floor, not enough size to finish at the rim on the rare occasion we did find the middle, and no one to make them pay deep when we skipped the ball or reversed the court. Mitch and Reid lamented about why Marcus waited so long to shoot from deep, it was because within the framework of the offense those were terrible shots but when he had to force them it was the best thing we had.
Jefferson is an absolute nightmare for us, Shane, Nino, nor Wes can handle him. The only aay to slow him down is to play DJamer and Gip together but they would both foul out in like 6 minutes. When Austin isn't asserting himself and floating around the arc you can match up our misplaced 3s on him but he was around the rim quite a bit today too. When they do that they are trouble for everyone in the conference because only KU can match their size. When they play, which is rare I think Jefferson/Gathers/Austin are a better trio than Black/Ellis/Embiid.

I couldn't agree more
-
Shane was useless. His dribble drives did nothing as he didn't do effective job of kicking out to Foster/Will. And he took 2 maybe 3 fade a way jumpers from mid range when we threw him the ball in middle of zone. Just a pisspoor job of squaring his body up like nino does for 15 footer.

I am not optimistic about our chances in the NCAA tournament. Wish I was, but I'm not.

Agreed.

Our D has played lights out at home all conf season. 1st half no different. 2nd half we weren't good for a change and our offense didn't step up and assert itself. We talked about our 9 pts in almost 13 min in the 2nd hf. In the 1st half, Bay had 4 pts in first 9 min before Austin hits a 3 and they get 1-2 FTs. Its under the 10 min mark and our lead is 5 because the O didn't bury Baylor early like the Texas game ( 28-9 lead). If u give up 8 pts and over 50% of the first half is done... U need to have complete control of the game. We didn't

Maybe its just a difference in opinion on how to play it or hindsight, but we had it to 3 with 43 seconds left. Why not let them play it out instead of fouling? They made about 50 FTs in a row. 8 seconds after a miss probably puts us in prime foul before we can shoot a 3 territory but I like our odds better than sending them to the line with one FT making it a 2 possession game.
Was really surprised to see us foul, especially Chery.

Being within 3 without the ball with 43 seconds left leaves you with an incredibly low chance to win, the more possessions you can have the better odds of something going wrong for the team up, Baylor did everything right.
The only mistake I feel they made late was not fouling Jefferson when he had the ball in the back court.

Most definitely. Nino had a shot to foul him and didn't.
We lost the game because we played bad offense and bad defense in Baylor's 31-9 run..... but it is truly crazy that Baylor had a 10 pt lead, scored on 10 of next 13 possessions, which included 16-16 FTs and when they got the ball back with .3 seconds left, their lead had been trimmed to 2 pts.

I rewatched the OU and WVU home games recently. Jevon used to be super good. What happened?

I don't feel strongly that playing it out is the better choice but the way Baylor was shooting FTs, I probably would've been for it. I agree that the main gripe is letting the ball get back to their stud FT shooter instead of fouling Jefferson. When Chery got it back, I think you get a good shot at trapping him since he expects a foul and doesn't want to pass (though I think they had a timeout left anyways).

guys i really don't like being on the business end of a football/basketball sweeping. :frown:

Lack of practice and being with the team in the fall caught up with him IMHO. The more he played, the more he put on film, the easier it was to scout him. When he established that he couldn't shoot or hit FTs we were in trouble. He then also established that you can get him to leave his feet and try to pass at least 1-2 times per game it was even worse. Jevon didn't turn it over a lot, but the biggest problem was that many of his turnovers led to lay-ups on the other end and that is really costly with the limitations this team had already. His defense was solid because of his quickness, but I also think he had trouble guarding taller guards if they could get penetration inside the arc. For example, Cherry's first 2 pull up jumpers were over Thomas, but he hit them over others later in the game.
