Title: Flashback Thursday
Post by: massofcatfan on March 06, 2014, 10:59:50 AM
SI:

My most nagging regret from this past NCAA tournament: Never writing about Kansas State-Xavier, the widely agreed-upon Game of the Year....

With five seconds left, Clemente iced the game with two free throws that sent K-State's Win Probability into the 90th percentile. The score was 101-96, the same way it would end, going into the annals as the 2010 NCAA tournament's high-leverage masterpiece. "There were two teams that day," Martin said, "that just refused to end their seasons."

That game was a lot of fun, but it definitely screwed us vs Butler.

Did we really lose to Butler? I think that was our golden opportunity to get to the Final Four. We might have to wait another 50 years.

I literally bought a basketball net and hid it at the bar for that game. I was going to wear it around my neck at PNL and shove it in squawks faces. My dream fell just short that day.

I could taste the FF. I could visualize Denis and Jake and Curt and Frank cutting down those nets. Just crappy Butler stood in the way.

Worst meltdown I have ever had, worse than 98 ATM (almost comatose due to not sleeping the night before) or 12 BU (blowout nature of the game, CK's sketti brains).

It actually made me feel much better when Butler showed they were more than a flash in the pan like George Mason or VCU with how they played in the FF and the rest of the tournament.

It stunk losing to Butler. (a team that did have 2 NBA players on it, 2 more than the Cats)

I was on a raging bender that night. It was the only thing that could help the drama.

Butler loss was the most heart breaking bball loss in my life and I will probably die with that still being the most painful.

Nothing will eclipse the pain of Pontiac, MI

Not sure what happened in Pontiac but it couldn't have been worse than losing to Butler.

For those of you too young: recall how it felt to lose to Bulter.

Then imagine that loss had been against KU instead of Butler.  PLUS imagine we had gotten to that game by beating the #1 seed in the region the game before.  AND imagine we were facing a KU team we had handed two pretty solid beatdowns during the season (and had only lost to by 1 in Ahearn).

OH, and the Final Four was in Kansas City!

That one sucked.   :sadpeek:

I understand the significance of 88, but that game didn't cause me to cry at a bachelor party.   :frown:

That loss to Butler was so brutal.  We were a 4 pt favorite to be in the damn Final 4....in Indy of all places (driving range).  And if we woulda got there we woulda played a Michigan State team that scored like 60 points a game that we woulda been favored against.  Coulda been in the chip game against Rat Face and Duke.  Probably be awhile before we are favored in an Elite 8 game.

Def would of been worse than Butler but I was still 3 and a half years out from being born.

Probably a good thing we weren't able to play Duke that year. Coach K ( ) would have shown no mercy on us.

I really wish we would have made the NIT that year. We would have kicked a bunch of NIT ass.
