Kansas star center Joel Embiid will sit for the team's final two regular season games, coach Bill Self told multiple media outlets Monday afternoon.
"I think he could return for the Big 12 tournament," Self told ESPN.com. "But it shouldn't impact the NCAA tournament."
He's not that good. Reality>potential.:Wha:
He's the next Greg Odom. Any NBA team that drafts him deserves to get fvcked.
He just doesn't look very happy, early in the season he was joking about killing lions now he
just looks sad.

The Self Effect
Imagine you stumble upon the game of Cricket while attending a university in Sydney. You were a pretty decent baseball player growing up, and something clicks and you are just amazing at Cricket. You get a little dinged up, but The Indians and Australians are going to pay you $10M a year to play pro Cricket, OR you could just stay at your University and help them win the Prime Minister's University Cup. If you didn't play the rest of the University season, and focused on getting completely healthy, you knew you'd guarantee yourself a huge pay day. What would you do?

Pete, does this huge payday come with a view of a hill?
Do I know jack crap about any of these teams? Nope. Would prefer to go make millions playing for them rather than risking injury playing for my University for pennies on the Rupee? Yep.

Good to see this yearly stupidity is back.
In all seriousness, this is a major concern for KU's title chances. Shutting down Embiid for useless games against Tech and WVU is absolutely the right move. I would say if Embiid still is not 100% keep him shut down for the Big XII tourney as well. No need to risk anything at this point, the only thing that matters is the NCAA tournament. Hell you could shut down Embiid for the first round game and I have no worries about KU winning.

ok just speculating here but is it possible that self is sitting embiid to rest up for us in the B12 tourney? ive heard a lot of rumors about the rubber match/3rd superbowl preparation having already started in Lawrence. maybe embiid is resting up for that?
They've been practicing on how to rush the court and stand on score tables on the side.
was talking to some nba scouts, etc and they said that embiid's stock was dropping like a rock b/c his pain tolerance is so pud
sad

My guy (Celitcs) said his being a liar and making up random stories has them worried. Also, the injury is seen as faking
met up with a friend for drinks the other night who does scouting for the raptors (Canada). he was jotting down notes when I showed up and I got a peek at them. the top page was a poster of Joel Embiid hunched over grabbing his back with a note in thick red sharpie diagonal across it that just said "Oden." anyone know what that means? I was afraid to ask.

Amazing night for the seniors...Can't wait to be a senior ???????? Too bad I didn't play but they took care of business #WeAllFromAfrica #kubball
The reality of it is, I'm fairly confident Self would tell him to leave before his senior year. Not that he wouldnt want him back, but he'd be risking too much by returning and Self has indicated in the past that he's honest with kids about whether or not they should leave early.

How does one get a stress fracture? Could it be from pushing yourself farther than you should?
Yes! Let's get this thread going *lawnmower pull chord noises*
I just heard from the father of the team manager that Joel has been hurt for some time now. Joel
has been asking to fully rest his injury since it happened, the staff has encouraged him to try to
play through it. After the OSU game Joel told the staff that he would not play again until he felt
healthy. The manager says that there is no guarantee Embiid will play again this year.

Ku is like 1-3 w/o Embiid so this isnt looking too great for them
While Embiid was seeking a second opinion on his back — a second opinion that came at his family’s request — Self was back in Lawrence, sorting through the situation.
Earlier Monday, Self said he couldn’t envision a scenario in which Embiid wouldn’t play in the NCAA Tournament. His back has felt better over the last week, Self said, and Embiid has begun to run in a pool to maintain his conditioning.

Myron and everyone else is jumping to conclusions. A stress fracture is a pretty minor injury, and once healed makes the bone stronger than it was before. After three weeks of rehab and healing, I'm sure it won't be much of a risk to have him playing. You can't really make the injury any worse, only delay the healing process. If there is no risk in playing him a few games in the NCAA tourney, then why not do it and let him finish the healing process throughout the summer?

Myron Medcalf, I hadn't before laughed at any of your articles... Your colleagues have had some doozies, but I have always enjoyed the articles of yours that i've read, until now. Your suggestion is to take a man who is not even able to handle himself off the court yet, and now has a looming injury, and rush him into the NBA even faster? Joel Embiid is scared to drive a car... but bypassing the best shot he has at a normal life after the NBA is the "selfless" thing to do? I am a Kansas student and fan, but I could really care less if he plays another game this season, I want to see him have a healthy recovery as much as the next person, but your logic is completely backwards. Joel is going to be the #1 pick, as long as he gets this back taken care of, regardless of the draft he enters, and before this injury it was still very much up in the air as to whether he was leaving college or not, but this injury should delay the process, not speed it up. You call us selfish for wanting him back at Kansas next year, but who is really the selfish one? We want what's best for Joel, another year in college to grow as a man and as a basketball player, while having the type of fan support he will not get from any lottery team fan base. We want him to leave when he is ready to leave, making sure he is healthy enough for a successful and lengthy career in the NBA. Instead, you're suggesting he completely forget the program that took him in, allowed him to become the favorite for the #1 overall pick within months of getting to campus, so that he can make some extra money and never learn the social skills required during or once his NBA career is over. But we are the selfish ones?... Let the kid learn how to live on his own, in a new country, while getting healthy, so that he can make his own decisions, on and off the court. Joel is like no other superstar freshman, yet people like you are trying to turn him into one. Only a sports writer would write an article telling a kid who is not ready for the NBA that it is a better option than getting an education, and still feel good about himself. How about you learn a little more about the player you're covering before you give them the same generic, greedy advice that so many other players have fallen for.

Guys, maybe we need to think about having an offseason camp where all of our players get multiple stress fractures. Think of how strong Foster will be after 4 years of full body stress fractures.

810 WHB's Kevin Kietzman got stopped at 2:35 AM Jan. 10th in Mission Hills
because he's driving erratically and his headlights are off.The cops note a
female's head coming up from his lap as they pull him over. They ask him to
get out of the car and as he does...his pants fall down around his ankles.
The cops are laughing their a**es off. Kietzman starts blubbering that he's
a married man and that the woman is not his wife and begs them to not write
him a ticket because he says he'll lose his job. The cops call two more
cruisers when they find out its Kietzman, just to laugh at the dumb ***.
The woman is drunk on her ***. Guess who the woman giving KK the mobile
hummer is? The lovely Jessica from the radio station. The best part is the
whole incident was caught on video and audiotape by the Prairie Village
police (who patrol Mission Hills).
Long story short, they don't write him a ticket and let him go. But the cops
spread the story everywhere and everybody in the media knew about it within
days. But since there's no paperwork on the "incident" no one runs the
story - including the Pitch. The Star verified the entire ordeal down to
where a cop told one reporter, "You gotta hear him blubbering and begging on
this
tape. It's the funniest thing I've ever heard." The Star tried to get access
to the tape via the Kansas Open Record act but were denied due to some
aggressive legwork by KK's very active lawyer. He was interviewed by a
reported for The Pitch, and told him that no one was going to do this story
because there was no ticket issued. It looks like so far he's been able to
keep it out of public view.
The Pitch is still trying to get a copy of the video/audio tape from the
cops. The PV police chief let them know that after he met KK and his lawyer,
he'd like nothing better than seeing KK's incident exposed. He said that KK
came into his office with his lawyer and started reading him his press
clippings.
Is that his wife now?
Taters are eating it up I'm sure. They're all rushing to email their co-workers or text their old high school buddies who don't hang out with them anymore to say the next big scandal has arrived and KU is going down. It happens once every couple months.
This has it allAbsolutely disgusting.
Ku fans thinly veiled racism
Their penchant for tossing their young guys under the bus
Insane inability to understand the economics of the NBA
Hero worship of Self and inability to admit he is a pretty slimy coach
It's all there

I don't post on here much anymore because I'm busy with work, but I can't help myself and had to login and post. Kevin Kietzman deserves to have his ass kicked. There is no reason to talk about this **** on the radio. NFL free agency started today, the big 12 tournament starts tomorrow, royals spring training and SKC are all better topics. Don't be surprised when Kietzman comes on the air Monday bitching about a KU fan kicking his ass this weekend.
Surely Phog.net can do something about this.
Come on, we are phog.net!
lets rise up and overcome!

I can't stand what major college sports has become. I'd rather KU be full of Perry Ellis and Conner Frankamps if all we're going to worry about is where guys are going to be drafted and protecting their paycheck. I don't want Joel to play hurt, but if he's good to go, his ass should be on the court playing for his teammates and the name on the front of his jersey

could KU #sansEmbiid still keep up with the Heat if they were to play?

ST. LOUIS -- While fellow freshman Andrew Wiggins will leave after the season, Kansas teammate Joel Embiid told ESPN that he will talk to the Jayhawks coaching staff and also his mentor, fellow Cameroon native and NBA player Luc Mbah a Moute, before making a final decision concerning his NBA future.
More from ESPN.com
Jeff Goodman writes that the Jayhawks need improved play at point guard to seriously contend for the 2014-15 title. Story
Embiid said he's not yet thinking about the decision just moments after watching the Jayhawks get knocked out of the NCAA tournament with a loss to Stanford in the round of 32.
"I'm not worried about that right now," Embiid said.
Embiid sat out the end of the regular season and missed the Big 12 and NCAA tournaments with a nagging back injury. He said he could have played on Sunday against the Cardinal, but that the doctors and Kansas staff wanted him to rest until the Sweet 16.
"I would have played in the Sweet 16," he said after the loss. "Definitely. ... I could have played today."
"It was pretty hard watching them lose," he added. "I felt like I could have helped, but it is what it is."
Embiid was considered the frontrunner to be taken No. 1 overall in June's NBA draft prior to the back injury. According to multiple NBA executives, Embiid's draft stock will likely be determined by the medical evaluations on his back. However, it's unlikely he'd drop out of the top three picks -- unless the tests come back with alarming news.
They won't want him back now and if bill did get him back, black would totally start over him and bill would say there have been off court issues causing the regression.

I wish the young man the best of luck. From what little I know, simply by reading accounts of his injuries and situation, it seems like he should have planned on making college his life, and give his body a chance to mature, and his mind a chance to decide on what healthy nutrition entails, before going in with professional players, some of whom have more moves than a lady of the night in a South Pacific port of call. yEAH, a WhOLE BuNCH OF nAMeS DO cOME TO mIND.... But then to some people and their families, the sun rises and sets with their need of fortune, money, money, and more money. It is a choice. Perhaps his choice of a marquee university, such as the Hayjocks, was also misguided. He mighta done better at an upcoming Wichita State, or Butler a few years ago, with their GQ looking coach who was white, and him a nice exotic contrast, and black from Cameroon. For the press, it makes for those heart warming story lines. gosh, smile, tear up, wow. Shaka smartie, not a good move likely for several reasons, old reliable at Miami, oh my God, a potentially fatal decision for talented and naive. And whatzit at Northern Iowa, another climb the ladder man really desperate for star quality players. And that list goes on, and on, and on, and on. wow. Thank goodness Calipari is off to chase the pros now. Can his soulmate Louigie at Louie disco balls be far behind? May the oinks of the world get what they deserve. Not my problem... short summary, decisions, decisions, decisions, but beware, when you choose anything but the most unwanted of careers, there are multiple criminal elements in the USA which will oppose each and every of your decisions. College basketball and football, have edged into really, not a good thing at all, and practically the whole enterprise is a sham for the underpinning motivation, which is never addressed in the 'yes boy and gerl' media.
