Title: Huggs at WVa
Post by: bones129 on February 27, 2014, 12:47:05 AM
Another loss. Huggs going home to WVA was hailed as their salvation, but things don't seem to be so well in M-Town. How much longer will Huggs be home?

Back 2 back years of no NCAA it appears. Dissapointing but they have everyone back next year.

Needs to have a really good year, which I think they will, and then parlay that into some recruiting success.

I think it's great.  WVU fans were incredibly mean to me while I melted down all over the internet when Huggs left.

he's fine they are okay with him because of the clear improvement they made during conference play and like posse said they are young

They'll be better next year. West Virginia is not a place that should demand perfection.

Is everyone getting super excited for bball next year?  All of the teams in the league "Should be better next year"

They were pretty good before he got there.

That league change is ruining their athletic confidence.  Weren't they good at football around that time too?

The takeaway from all this is that Manhattan/KSU have much better built in qualities for success than Illinois, WVU, and South Carolina State.

I wanted them to be good when he left for them. He had some nice runs when he got there too. It's different now that they're in our conference.

I honestly wonder if this was a terrible move for Huggs.  I know I would jump at the chance to coach at K-State if I were ever a commodity in coaching.  But his timing was at the precipice of a great renaissance in basketball, largely by his own doing.  Even if he waited a few years to go back, I wonder what that would have done for his legacy.  I can only fathom what Huggs would have done with that incoming class, a new B-ball training facility, and the true start of fan support coming back to basketball.

He took them to a Final 4. He has a team that should be in the tournament the next several years. WVU should be happy with what he's done even if the past couple years have been below expectations.

Man, I wonder what our fans would be saying about oscar if he missed the tourny 2 years in a row?

Coaching at your alma mater would suck. If it doesn't work out, there will always be a dark cloud over you; if it works out and you want to go to the NBA (Fred) you'd be hated by fans for leaving, despite what you gave to the school.

If I was a coach, I'd never want to coach at my alma mater.

Oh I know about his final four and the icon pics of him comforting his players.  But play the counterfactual out and then think about where I'd be nicer to be in the short term.  *my counterfactual still has him going home after a run at K-State*

The events that happened for Huggins to leave for West Virginia were unique, but he was likely never a long term solution at K-State. That said, hiring him was absolutely the right decision and K-State basketball is better off because of it. West Virginia hiring him was absolutely the best solution for them as well (and still is).

and? Did Belein make a final four? Those NITs were pretty boss though

Wouldn't be happy about it, should we? Ask this question again and make it Lon Kruger after he had taken us to a final four and had to navigate a conference change

That's my point.  If oscar missed 2 NCAAs, we'd be calling for his head on a stake.  Huggy misses 2 in a row and he's fine.  young team.  improving.  fans should be happy, etc.  Weird double standard.

The difference would be missing the tourney 5 of 8 years for oscar and 3 of 8 for Huggs, which I think is significant considering one of the misses was after taking over for Wooldridge. Also, Huggs is more fun to have around.

He's giving you reasons for a possible double standard in his post. Also, k-state is a better basketball school
