Title: Good to win while playing (like) Schultz; TCU ADV

Completely ugly 1st half. Cats had complete control, up 13-4 in the 1st, and then a Gip 3 second violation while taking too long to pass out of the lane (Will hit the 3) seemed to unravel the Cats. TCU outscored K-State 22-13 the rest of the half as the Cats slept their way through while nearly turning the ball over on 2 out of every 5 possessions.

Jevon seemed to provide a little spark as the Cats finally got back to patience against TCU's terrible zone.

Cats win comfortably, you move on after a lacksadasical win against the Big 12's worst team.

One thing oscar said in his post game about roles: "If you want to get better, do it in the off season."  Stuck out to me, kinda bothered me.  I know we have pretty fixed roles, but I strongly disagree with casting a player in Jevon Thomas's position to one roles, when he was short changed by an NCAA rule.  If anything we should expect his role to evolve a lot as well as the rest of the freshmen.  I kinda agree with an Omari Lawrence having a role in this, but not players who have limits to push.

I could very well be wrong.  I wonder how to take that comment (either way) with freshmen being locked into a role.

I heard that comment too and he also said something to the effect you can't change roles, like at all, for the rest of the season

I take it to mean we're not gonna sacrifice games at this point to gain experience, I dunno?

Pretty ugly to get 13 TOs in the final 27 poss of the first half.    Hard to score when u don't get a shot or FTs on half of the poss the final 14 min of the first half

Defense, I thought we were OK.  Not bad by any meens, but we have looked better.  That said Tcu only got 0.83 and 38.3 eFG.    Tcu is not a good offensive team at all, but their last 4 conf road games they did shoot 49.2 eFG and almost ave 1.00 (.97 to be exact)

It was nice to win the rebound battle by a wide margin.  That at least helped counter the TO differ some.

Opposing teams just continue to have a hard time making 3s and we continue to do a good job of allowing a lower % of attempts.
26.9 3pt% and 27.8% of shots from 3pt in Big 12.  And don't forget Ole Miss and GW combined for 6-33 3pt

We did play some in the KU game with no Shane or Nino on the floor.  Those 2 played 39 of possible 50 min.   Then Nino played 45 of the 50 minutes in the Baylor game.   But 2night, 80% of the first half, we had no Shane or Nino

Nino picked up his 2nd foul and sat with 16:13 left.  We scored on next 2 poss but then our O was awful.
No Shane/Nino foul trouble.... we had to play 2 bigs, then Schultz at 4 and Omari at the 4.

Not sure what the offense does if Nino plays a bulk of the first half, but he played 15-16 min in the 2nd half and the production was better

Seems like Thomas did a good job on Anderson, especially in the second half by staying in front and preventing him from getting into the lane.

Dave Armstrong said this morning that had we played a team like Texas Tech last night we would have lost.

Ugly games like last night happen every season. Its just good that TCU is so horrible that they couldn't beat us.

Johnson's rebounding philosophy with that team is pathetic. Its one thing to decide you aren't going to make any effort to oboard, plenty of teams do that and are still successful, but when you also seemingly make no effort to dboard you have to be really good everywhere else. Johnson has had really good rebounding teams in his past, so it looks like he just doesn't have the players to make what he wants to do work. Granted, his career has been fairly mediocre.

“One of the worst things that happened was 11-2,” Weber said, “because now, even if there was some fear that I put into them, now it’s 11-2 and then we went really flat. I think we had three points in eight, 10 minutes. We got to 14 and stayed there forever.”
