US Taxpayers lose:
$139 million
-
Meh, that's chump change. Get back to me when the Feds piss away, say, half a billion on a green energy company.
-
Pffft we've lost much much more In defense.
If the loans were used to pay material, equipment, and labor then it was probably a good stimulus in its own right.
Mocking green tech will get this country nowhere.
-
Conservative hacks mock it all the time which I believe where the sentiment for this thread came from.
I'll expect your 1 trillion dollar bitch about the F 35 fighter jet any day now.
Are you still churning about the billions lost in Iraq? I mean for all we know that may never have been redistributed back into our economy.
-
is there a link to this story?

The federal government is really terrible at business and needs to stay the eff out.
The federal government has a constitutional duty to defend its citizens.
Libtards see this as the same thing.

Did you find a scare word Dick?

No this is you bitching about some minuscule stimulus program to air your rightwing grievances with your fellow conservative handjobs.
Granting help to those trying to develop a potentially efficient technology was a good attempt and at the time sounded like a good investment. It still has the potential to payoff if the new firm opens up the Delaware plant.
States offer good incentives all the time, why couldn't the Feds at a time of necessary stimulus ?
-
At the time, it seemed like a good investment.
-
Hey, at least Raymond Tusk can buy another yacht now.

you could use google. you'd find out dax's presentation is based on some fact, but is obscured by misleading spin, as per usual.

Not that I really give a crap and Dax gon' Dax but wasn't the loan guarantee program initiated with bi-partisan support in 2005 under George Bush's administration?
-
Injun, this thread is about the wasted money of gov't getting engaged in the private sector (and in many cases, administration buddies), sometimes it works, many times it doesn't.
If you want to bitch about DOD acquisition issues, or the cost of the Iraw War then start a thread about it.
Solyndra and all the other renewable energy companies that have gone bankrupt after receiving money as part of the DOE's Loan Guarantee program represent less than 3% of the entire portfolio - the private sector can't hit at 97%. Most VC's in green tech would be happy with a 30% success rate.

U.S. taxpayers lost $139 million of the $192 million Fisker received.

Links Moscow, so this "portfolio" can be reviewed.

That's nice testimony from a DOE lifetime WONK who is going to put the best possible spin on the situation. One couldn't even begin to understand as to what Silver said actually matched reality without an indepth financial analysis of each company invested in. In gov't and corporate America, nearly anything can be spun into a positive.
Here's more information for you to reflexively dismiss: http://www.whitehouse.gov/sites/default/files/docs/report_on_doe_loan_and_guarantee_portfolio.pdf (http://www.whitehouse.gov/sites/default/files/docs/report_on_doe_loan_and_guarantee_portfolio.pdf)
One interesting thing of note here is that the program bet 7X as much on utility as the higher-risk solar.

So, does this mean all Viagra is going to be made in China now?

The left really really wants Iraq to be Vietnam. Sad, really
