Chances we get one of those three? I don't have kenpom subscribo. Does statsheet have similar predictor?
10-8 still looks like the better's option. Can we hold serve at home and steal just one roadie? 11-7 would be pretty great.
-
We'll win one.
Bank on it. Baylor did.
-
@TECH and @OSU if we're lucky.
-
0-3. Tech is better than Baylor.
-
We win in Stillwater. No way we win in Norman.
-
Not likely after what happened tonight. This team expects to lose as oscar buries his hands deeper in his pockets and smiles sarcastically
-
I expect us to win one. As close as we've been in most of our road losses, it's pretty stupid to think we can't win one.

But, michigancat, #bid and stuff! :shakesfist:

Why? We couldn't even beat the 2nd worst team in the Big 12 on the road?

TCU, ISU, Baylor at home. Should be able to win these three. Still, ISU scares me and who knows if Baylor can keep this rolling down the stretch.
Still looks like 10-8 with an outside chance at 11-7.

We could have beat them, very easily. We could have beaten the second BEST team, too.

Notice a trend? We "could" beat anyone on the road except for KU, it just isn't going to happen. Every road game we find a way to lose.

yeah, "almost winning" is a trend that makes me think we'll win one. If we hadn't been close in any of these games, I wouldn't be as confident in our abilities.

We have shown no ability to close out games on the road. Just thinking we'll get lucky one game is not very logical imo.

Easy way to look at it.
Begin with K-State and Baylor in the last possession of regulation, then run it until someone wins 1000 times. Cats' chances look pretty good. Much better than being down 10 with 2 minutes to go.

It's actually far more illogical to think we'll continue to be unlucky.
-
I'm really not giving a crap about this home/road distinction. It doesn't matter.

If there's anything to learn from this season it's that we should feel good about the close losses because it means we're "close". Losing close games means you will eventually win them all at some point. It's science, as this season proves.

Another close loss, ripe for a catzacker zinger post. :D

Chances we get one of those three? I don't have kenpom subscribo.
kenpom is now predicting kstate wins all the remaining homes and loses all remaining roads.

yeah, but w/ a 35%, 32%, and 49%, there's a good shot at getting one of them.

going 2-6 in road games not in Lawrence....... just not that excited about that, but it looks like a reality and likely a best case scenario

predictos are about what i thought both home and away. 10-8 is  with me.

If we can't win at baylor, why would anyone assume we would win any other road game?
We had this and literally gave it away, good grief you people
-
we'll win at least one, you buncha dorks.

i agree

i agree
Probably, but oscar :shakesfist:
-
Why is this important? Is not being able to win on the road an inherent personality characteristic like not being able to win with your own players?
-
I think the OSU game will be some what like the Baylor game. Maybe they won't show up at first, but they'll find themselves and beat us. Hope not, but it seems like that's what will happen on a road game.
-
Will be funny if our only home loss is UNC and only road win is TCU
-
oscar Weber doesn't win on the road. Winning on the road takes superior talent and or toughness and we have neither

I want to sew his goddam pockets shut.

Won't help. He'll still have the clasped-hands-in-front-of-junk-while-shuffling move, the crossed-arrms-with-one-hand-in-armpit stance, and the 3-point-defense action.

Neutral site though.!!

At this point I'm going to Salina to hang with friends, eat hog hammers and pizza and watch arena football.

It's sort of amazing how fast I went from being ecstatic to being pissed about this team. Oh well.

That's all it was ever about, with the possible 2nd half arena football being a bonus.
-
I bet we win 2 out of 3 on the road. Call me crazy. Also think we drop a home game.
-
Is michigancat the only sensible poster left? Good grief with the "we can't close out games" talking point.

Yeah, its part of BBSing. If there was a meltdown kenpom rating, gE would be in the Top 10.

Do it.

You would think we would win at least one but you also would think we'd have won more than one by now.
Regardless, not really worried about it. We will probably make the tournament, but this team has a fairly low ceiling. I hope they get a win in the Phillips and NCAAs, but not really expecting/worried about too much more. Get some experience, learn what you need to improve on (looking at you Jevon) and get ready for next year.

More like meh-ltdown.

I don't think we'll go 0-3 in those games either but its worth noting that last time this came up michigancat was all like "blaahhh you must obey the advanced metrics, sample size too small, hhhhrrrrrr" but now its like "wait the stats say our odds of winning any of these three are very good, meh I have a good feeling"
-
We're 1 and effing 5 on the road

If other teams were just going out and being road warriors I'd be more concerned. Iowa State got thirty balled @WVU. If we win out at home, I really don't give a crap if we end up at 10-8. We're not playing for this season anyways.

wth? Iowa State should never be a measuring stick for anything other than mediocrity. Shame on you.
Good teams win on the road, I'm frustrated because we're capable but time and time again we have lacked the poise necessary to finish.

We've also had chances to build leads early in game in some of these but have failed to do that as well.

luck quotient/factor??? kenpom metric??? is one metric that I won't accept nor should any right thinking person accept, but I'd be interested in seeing ours in relation to the rest of the conference

I'm not using them as our measuring stick. They are a more experienced team and more talented and they get absolutely thunderfucked on the road. We're absurdly young, and struggle to jump out to an early lead and then struggle to capitalize on our runs to bring us back into the game. That should come with experience.
-

kstate is + .031 in luck, 108th luckiest in the nation. isu and ut are the only luckier teams in the big 12. the big 12 hasn't been a very lucky group of teams this year.

You can accept whatever you want. I disagree that there is any reason to expect more out of this season overall, but feel free to melt down as you see fit.

not true
speaking of Iowa State, they have been saying this for years, at some point people (non ISU fans of course they don't believe in holding coaches accountable, just say you're unlucky & call everyone else cheaters) are going to have to factor in the one link on these teams, the head coach.
-
MiR is right, ISU has virtually identical experience as KSU.

how can advanced metrics be credibly used to measure the abstract when the purpose of advanced metrics is to minimize the effect of the abstract?

Who is melting down? Are you arguing to argue again? I agreed with you, I said I don't think we will go 0-3 in this stretch.

to signify what? I really don't know
-
to signify what? I really don't know
some measure of the difference between the actual record and the predicted winning %. not real sure of the details.
-

luck = variance :dunno:
-
OP: We win one...maybe two.
-
luck = variance :dunno:
unexplained variance.
-
luck = variance :dunno:
unexplained variance.
Is there a difference?
-
it's direction + magnitude of variance
-
you should always expect variance - it's the magnitude and direction that is unpredictable. I think that's what sys is saying.
-
luck = variance :dunno:
unexplained variance.
Is there a difference?
null hypothesis would be that winning games is a matter of luck. all teams would be expected to go .500. deviation from .500 is variance. the model attempts to explain that variance by apportioning variation to explanatory factors. variance that can't be explained by the model is what's left over.
-
I think what this means is that good luck counts for crap on the road
