Title: Our Defense at home
Post by: Powercat Posse on February 08, 2014, 03:23:10 PM
FAN and I have talked about how good our Defense has been at home.   Here are the defensive numbers vs our 6 teams we beat in the OOD that are top 100 rpi teams (Miss, GW, Osu, OU, WV, UT)

PPP Allowed = 0.92
eFG% = 38.9
3Pt% = 25.5 (25-98)
2Pt% = 39.2 (91-232)
TO% = 20.1

We also held T Tech to 0.92 ppp and 38.4 eFG%.   They are not top 100, but they are decent on offense (top half in league games in both PPP/eFG)

Just really impressive holding teams to under 40% from 2pt, allowing only 1/4 of 3pt shots to be made, and forcing a TO every 1/5 poss.

As good as the defense has been.  It's the offense that has to be solid if we want to win on Monday.  In those 6 games, we are ave 1.10 and 51.4 eFG%

Texas 18-55 FGs
T Tech 19-56 FGs
OU 22-66 FGs
WV 16-49 FGs

Last 4 games at home, each game we basicly have allowed 1/3 of FGAs to be made.  Gotta love it.

Our 2pt defense at home is unreal for a team with no real rim protector.

Yes. Unreal.  Those 4 games I just talked about regarding FGAs.... All 4 of those teams shot 35% or under form 2pt (35%, 35%, 31%, 30%)

KU is a very good 2pt shooting team.  Texas held them to 37.2% (19-51) from 2pt.   If we can keep them under 40%, we have a good shot to win on Monday

Would you attribute some of this to hot shooting? Like, against WVU and UT we were up double digits almost instantly, and I felt like both those teams kinda just panicked and quit trying to run good offense.

I don't think teams panic in the 1st half.  They likely get frustrated and don't get as good of looks as normal.

WV was 6-20FG and had 8 TOs in 31 poss 1st hf.  Today Texas was 5-20FG and 10 TOs in 28 poss.    Our D has just been incredible at home and in the first half at home.... it has been flat out awesome.    It helps that our good D has transitioned into some good offensive numbers in 1st hf.... 68% eFG vs WV and 1.37 ppp today vs Texas
