I have always been curious about this, How deep does your EMAW go? I thought I had seen a long time ago a thread like this but couldn't find it. How many family members have been KSU Wild Wildcats? Are you the first in your family, or the 50th?
My grandpa started the tradition for me, even has his picture up in the Bram as he was a part of one of the 4 Final 4 teams. Both parents graduated from KSU. Several cousins were or still are students. Of course me and my brother will probably attend KSU.
How deep does your EMAW go?

If it weren't for Kansas State University I wouldn't exist.
Parents met at the Derb, dad knew my mom liked pickles and offered his to her one day at lunch. :-)
2 years later he proposed to her at Vista Burger....Yup, vista burger.
Whats more EMAW than that?

metalheadmom went here for a semester before she moved back home and started going to Washburn, which is where my parents met. Dad grew up in Alta Vista and has always been a Cat's fan. I'll be the first one to hold a degree from KSU Qatz Purple University.
-
Both my parents went to UMKC. My Grandpa went to Mizzou in the 1940s. I'm 1st Gen EMAW. However, my Dad became a tremendous KSU fan when I began school there. Mom too.

My grandpa has been a season ticket holder in both sports since the mid-50's. He is good friends with Ernie Barrett and donates $10,000+ per year to a scholarship that he helped create, plus the athletic department donations. My parents both went to K-State, but didn't meet until they moved back to Topeka. They've been football season ticket holders since they met. Three of my uncles go to every football game, and the fourth lives in Texas but goes to 2-3 games a year. They all split two tickets to the basketball games.
I've posted it before, but fatty used to always make fun of me for being born with a silver spoon in my mouth when it came to being EMAW. He was definitely #team1stgeneration.
-
ohhhh, fancy. i'm stevseie, i have silver sppoon in my ass and a gold fork in my butthole. ohhh hoidy toidy. ohhh, i'm so much better than everyone elsee look at me! such a fancy boy!!!!

-
4th generation, bitches! :gocho:
-
Call me as along for the ride or whatever, but I didn't fall in love with the KSU Cats until about 97. Now I'm a first generation degree holder.
-
When did you know you were emaw? Or your first emaw memory?
My initial diehard memories come from the Mitch Richmond teams. I remember losing several bets when KU beat us in the tournament in 88 (I was a 7th grader). :(
Also, my dad had tickets to a game vs KU in Ahearn when I was in 4th grade, but it was a blizzard that day so we couldn't go.
-
1st generation right here. Guess I'm "new money" or whatever.

that was really great stuff seven
-
Welp, seven es numero uno in this thread.
Second, I guess. Dad went here, mom too (she didn't grad.). My grandma on my mom's side grew up part of her life in MHK and her dad built a bunch of houses on freemont street (i think that's right). That same grandma went to KSU for two years before moving to Lawrence after she met and married my grandpa. They both graduated from KU. He was a football player and track guy.
First KSU memory? Some big win against Oklahoma in the late 80s Also remember the loss to KU in Detroit in 88. We watched that one during school. I think the first real memory that I knew I was EMAW was when I got pretty sad after Kevin Pritchard and KU beat Steve Henson in Manhattan in 90.
Listened to the first KSU football win under Snyder in my dad's Chevy Celebrity on KSAL in Salina. We were sitting in the Central Mall parking lot going crazy.
-
1st gen. Parents both started as squawks, finished at Fort Hays. I grew up squawky but have been EMAW since about April of 2006. Little bro went EMAW too.
-
Both parents and one brother. I'm wearing some sort of Ksu shirt in pretty much every childhood picture of me.
Dad is the tuckiest of tucks but never chose Ksu to finish lower than 4th in his yearly big 8 football pool at work. Then for some reason he lost hope and even cancelled his season tix when they hired some no-name assistant from Iowa. He came back pretty quick but lost his good seats.

First gen (same for emab undergrad). Most of the family are Huskers with smatterings of Jayhawk, CUBuffs, Pokes, Sooners, and Longhorns thrown in there.

When did you know you were emaw? Or your first emaw memory?
Wabashing for the first time with fatty at 2010 UCLA MOAP :)

I remember JJ Smith going up the East sideline in a game, not sure which one. Other vivid early football memories for me are Chris Canty picking off an OU pass to ice the game and beating the hell out of KU the one season they were good in the mid-90s.
Earliest basketball memory at a game is probably the game that we waxed MU by about 50. Favorite somewhat early basketball memory is stealing my mom's cell phone as a frosh in HS so I could order KSU/KU tix and bumming a ride there and back (2 hours each way) on a school night. Every year for me was "this is the year." My friend's big bro got us in the student section. I gave the friend I bummed a ride with my spare ticket for the Beasley year which brought it full circle.
-
2nd with both parents + lots of Aunts and Uncles.
Would have been 3rd but my Gpa decided to go to Korea then came back knocked up my Gam Gam and started a farm (of die-hards EMAWs :gocho:)
-
3rd generation EMAW. 2 grandparents, TownieMom, 2 uncles, 2 aunts, 2 siblings, and 9 cousins.
-
When did you know you were emaw? Or your first emaw memory?
1993 Copper Bowl.
-
1st gen, but hope to one day be sharing gameday experiences with kids and grandkids at emaw-u

Kansas State University
Did you know 40 percent of ?#?KState?'s student population is made up of first-generation students, those who are the first person in their family to attend college? Through a highly competitive selection process, K-State is one of only seven universities participating in The Suder Foundation's First Scholars program. First Scholars addresses the unique challenges faced by first-generation freshmen by providing insightful tools, mentors, training and leadership opportunities. We embody the land of opportunity perhaps better than anything else in this land.

parents went to Syracuse, both were first members of their family to go to college (we're polish, fwiw)
sister currently goes to KSU, but roots for squawk basketball. this is my fault, though. I dropped her on her head as a kid :frown:
-
Grandpa played freshman football and night basketball for K-State before the marines came calling. Grandma was an Alpha Xi Delta and met my gramps at the United Methodist Church on Poyntz Avenue. Parents didn't go to college (both are Cats fans though), but two of my aunts are Wildcats, and the rest of my aunts and uncles are either Squawks or didn't go to college. My wife and I went to K-State, but her entire extended family are KU t-shirt fans...they are the worst.
-
Grandpa played football for the cats and my dad pitched a no hitter for the bat cats :gocho:
Most of the fam went to KSU or are townies.
-
Great Uncle, Father, and now myself. My family is pretty normal so I don't have any cool stories. However Gov Brownback did recognize my dad by name when we ran into him outside of the suite we were watching the 2012 KU game in. (He was his Ag Law teacher and FFA something or other)
My siblings didn't catch the EMAW like I did, but then again I was the only planned child so it makes sense.
-
First generation. Turned down an Ivy League offer to be EMAW. No regrets.
Wife is third generation.

My parents got married in that church, in fact my Dad never walked at graduation because he was to busy getting hitched. (Wedding was same day as graduation).

My mom is the only KSU grad in the family; she got her Masters in EMAW. My pop was a prof, and I was a townie. I grew up with season tickets to watch good basketball at Ahearn & free entry to watch horrible football at KSU Stadium. First EMAW memory is clambering around underneath the roll-out seats at Ahearn collecting stacks of plastic KSU cups.

They should just rename it the EMAW Chapel of Love.
