Title: Favorite Steve Martin Film
Post by: AppleJack on January 17, 2014, 10:33:38 AM
Hello, how are you? It's that time of year again where we discuss our favorite (least favorite?) Steve Martin films. Many of you find the dialog uncomfortable but I, for one, think its necessary. By the end of the day I would like to have a general agreement so we can put this past us for another year.

Three Amigos.  The supporting cast really takes it over the top for me, compared to the others on this list.

I don't like Steve Martin. I think he taints every scene he appears in. 3 Amigos, great movie but ruined by Martin.

Smug. Arrogant. Crass. Crumengeony. Elitist mentality. I bet he'd be a KU fan if he actually watched Sports.

THE MAN WITH TWO BRAINS duh

WOULD YOU READ THAT BACK TO ME? I'M AFRAID THAT MIGHT MAKE ME SOUND POMPOUS TO YOUR READERS.

UH, "MY BRILLIANT RESEARCH IN BRAIN TRANSPLANTATION IS UNSURPASSED AND WILL PROBABLY MAKE MY NAME
LIVE BEYOND ETERNITY."

NO, THAT'S ALL RIGHT. TAKE OUT THE "PROBABLY." IT MAKES ME SOUND WISHY-WASHY.

If I saw Martin in Whole Foods I'd probably tell him the bluegrass band he plays with is very talented. And the Strawberry Jam from this place is tasty.

The Jerk.  I am guessing people who are saying the names of other Steve Martin movies haven't seen the Jerk.

Here is a more interesting question: Favorite Steve Martin book?  My answer is The Pleasure of My Company.   They are all pretty good though.  Except Cruel Shoes, obviously.

Went with the Jerk.  It was close between that and Three Amigos, but I just think that Three Amigos is more an ensemble movie and The Jerk is more a Steve Martin movie

This is the correct answer. I like Amigos better, but The Jerk is Steve Martin's best movie.

Yes, I love this movie, too. When he is getting his legs beat to hell and he is wincing in pain, I almost shed a tear for him while I am laughing.
